This document discusses challenges and opportunities in eHealth technology. It begins by describing examples of technologies that have low uptake and impact, termed "bad" and "ugly" technologies, due to problems like low interactivity, technical issues, and an engineering-driven rather than human-centered design. It then discusses the "black box phenomenon" where the internal workings and impacts of technologies are unclear. The document proposes unlocking the black box through a holistic, stakeholder-driven approach using persuasive and productive design principles. These include nudging behavior change through features like dialogue support, social influence and self-monitoring tools. It also advocates a blended approach combining online and in-person support. Comprehensive evaluations of multiple outcomes are

Rick Gutierrez is a user experience designer and product strategist who has worked with companies like careC2 and Lenderful. He helps companies define and optimize their products through research, user flows, wireframes and prototyping. Some of his past projects include designing an observation unit patient flow application, optimizing Lenderful's mortgage platform experience, and creating an instant mortgage pre-qualification application.
This document discusses the importance of taking a people-oriented approach to business analysis and design. It argues that purely analytical models that do not account for human behaviors and contexts are unlikely to result in effective solutions. A people-oriented approach involves early and ongoing engagement with stakeholders through activities like observation, prototyping and testing theories about users' work. This helps ensure solutions fit with how people and organizations actually operate. The document also stresses the importance of considering how a change may impact all stakeholders, not just primary users or the organization.
This document discusses a system for navigating design-by-committee projects. It provides a 6 step process: 1) Identify the committee's objective. 2) Identify the fundamental function. 3) Identify current challenges. 4) Brainstorm solutions. 5) Select optimal solutions. 6) Evaluate solutions through the design process. Best meeting practices are also outlined, including having an agenda, introductions, check-ins, and check-outs. The document is authored by experience designer GK Rowe, who works to infuse creative solutions and experience design into business.

The document provides UX principles to consider when designing user experiences for AI:
1. Trust - To build trust, AI systems must be transparent about their algorithms and data sources, and focus on maintaining trust through consistent user experiences.
2. Clarify - Clear explanations help users understand how and why AI systems make decisions, which enhances performance and trust. Explanations should address user goals.
3. Simplify - Effective AI prioritizes simplicity by using clear language and focusing explanations to avoid overwhelming users. Simplicity enhances the user experience.
4. Control - Giving users control over AI systems through options like editing recommendations or turning intelligent features on/off helps users feel more comfortable. "
As we move into a new AI-enabled world, the role and decisions of User Experience designers become increasingly important. User Experience Design is at a crossroads with emerging technology, IT business models, and societal trends and needs. Human-centered Design and user advocacy are being challenged by algorithm-driven and manipulative interfaces (think social media) as well as business, and technology models that clash with user control and civil rights. New strategies are required for us to reduce bad, unethical, and embarrassing user experiences.
In this webinar, we will explore what causes ethical issues in UX, how to turn this around, and start practicing 'UX with Ethics' in our day-to-day work. This webinar aims to provide practical understanding, tips, and techniques to help you educate your team (a copy of the PPT will be made available) as well as to take a more influential role in your organization or design decision making role.

Accenture publishes its technology vision annually. It is a distillation of our extensive research over the course of the previous 12 months, the experiences of our research teams and the input of our clients. In it, we outline the emerging technology trends that forward-thinking CIOs will use to position their organizations to drive growth and high performance, rather than just focusing on cost-cutting and efficiency improvements.
Business leaders now accept that their organizations’ future success is bound up with their ability to keep pace with technology. CIOs have to play a key role in helping these business leaders recognize and seize the opportunities enabled by new trends—but the price of progress will have to be paid, along with new risks assumed.
We believe six technology trends will influence business over the next three to five years:
Context-based services. Where you are and what you are doing will drive the next wave of digital services.
Converging data architectures. Successfully rebalancing the data architecture portfolio and blending the structured with the unstructured are key to turning data into new streams of value.
Industrialized data services. The ability to share data will make it more valuable—but only if it is managed differently.
Social-driven IT. Realize that social is not just a bolt-on marketing channel. It will have true business-wide impact.
PaaS-enabled agility. The maturing platform-as-a-service (PaaS) market will shift the emphasis from cost-cutting to business innovation, supporting rapid evolution for business processes that need continuous change.
Orchestrated analytical security. Organizations will have to accept that their gates will be breached and begin preparing their second line of defense—data platforms—to mitigate the damage caused by attacks that get through.

This document outlines 10 lessons for solution architects from an Association for All IT Architects. It summarizes each lesson in 1-2 sentences:
1. Solution architects should take ownership of technical products as they design solutions and emerging designs must be proven as architecture.
2. Minimum Viable Products are designed to capture value while dealing with uncertainty, as healthy tension on teams drives innovation.
3. Architectural decisions are key objects that must manage stakeholders, quality attributes, and ecosystem design rather than just systems. Effective engagement models are needed.
The Lens of Anticipatory Design Under AI-driven ServicesJoana Cerejo
The world is moving quickly towards hyper-personalized Artificial Intelligence-driven services. With today's new technological possibilities, the domain of Human-Computer Interaction is moving from a traditional static convention process to an emergent living ecosystem. Business-to-costumer models have been increasingly shifting towards personalization, customization, prediction, and recommendation, to enhance their users' experiences. This converges into designing anticipatory and automated experiences.
Motivbase is an ethnographic insights discovery tool that analyzes consumer conversations to understand the social, political, and cultural meanings behind topics. It helps clients bring the consumer's true perspective to innovation and brand development. Unlike other analytics platforms, Motivbase does a full contextual analysis of millions of conversations to identify hidden meanings unconsciously associated with topics. This allows it to predict the future of topics better than other technologies. It offers do-it-yourself analysis using trained data scientists for complex analyses.
The advantages of a connected device can be explored through the different categories of needs, by trialling a range of solutions and considering a framework of manageable steps.

The document summarizes an agile user-centered design process used by Elsevier for product development. It involves understanding users through research and low-fidelity prototypes to develop user stories. The team then iterates through short development cycles of understanding user needs, designing solutions, and evaluating them with users. This iterative process allows for continuous input from users to build the right product.
Knowledge management will play an important role in addressing the consumerization of IT and the changing role of IT departments. As more technologies originate from the consumer space, knowledge management strategies will be needed to capture, organize, and facilitate access to both explicit and tacit knowledge across the organization. Some knowledge management areas that may see increased demand include community management, social collaboration, taxonomy and tagging, curation, analytics and business intelligence, and change management as IT departments aim to embrace new technologies while mitigating risks. Effective change management approaches focus on starting with early adopters, addressing concerns of the skeptical, and demonstrating clear value to critics in order to drive organizational adoption of new ways of working.
The document summarizes key points from a seminar on participation in the era of digital innovation. It discusses the difference between invention and innovation, the innovation cycle, types of innovation including open innovation, emerging technologies, citizen participation typologies using Arnstein's ladder, the wisdom of crowds concept, and participation in practice including political and social innovation. The seminar included exercises linking emerging technologies to levels of participation and examples of innovation tools.
This document discusses technological innovations and media management. It provides definitions for key terms related to media management, such as media planning, media objectives, and media strategies. It also discusses technological innovation and how it relates to broader concepts of innovation. The document outlines some positive and negative impacts of technological innovations and media, such as improved transportation and communication but also increased risk to privacy and security. It describes processes for managing technological innovation. In conclusion, it recommends that businesses provide social media guidelines for employees rather than banning platforms, and that social media should be used to the business' advantage.
This document discusses best practices for developing a digital strategy through user engagement. It recommends conducting research such as user testing, interviews, and surveys to understand user needs, priorities, and preferences. This will help determine digital priorities and frameworks. Insights should then be translated into actionable recommendations and quick/long-term plans to improve the digital experience. Engaging users directly is important to ensure digital tools meet real needs rather than just assumed needs.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

An early-stage-development debate among stakeholders is a prerequisite to
determine the added values for implementation.
It’s the “preservatives” — the incumbent healthcare players. That is, the
preservatives are trying to protect the status quo, rather than focusing on
how to sincerely address the Triple Aim (improve outcomes, reduce cost,
improve patient experience). In every healthcare organization I’ve talked
with, whether they are a provider, pharma, or health plan, there are
transformers internally who know what to do but are stymied by
preservatives. Forbes, Healthcare's Trillion-Dollar Disruption 1/17/20

36. Dialogue Support
It can be concluded that support is important in computer-
based treatments for depression. This supports the wisdom
that a blended approach is preferable, the more successful
programs usually incorporate some therapist/human
support, whether that is online, or by phone, or in person.”

40. Slow Tech: An Idea Whose Time Has Come
Design for experience
More and more people report feeling overwhelmed by the omnipresence
of online activities and the expectation to be constantly accessible. It's
wreaking havoc on schedules, ruining a full night's sleep and disrupting
relationships.
"slow tech" movement is gaining momentum, pushing people to rethink
how we approach technology from the ground-up. Instead of being
obsessed with an overarching drive towards efficiency in our technology,
slow tech thinkers advocate a more livable, mindful relationship between
consumers and devices.

Blended treatment approach
Blended approach has the potential to improve therapy outcomes if:
Therapists and clients are involved in the development of
technology
Technology and content of the therapy are integrated
More systematic research is needed to show the effects of blended
treatment
Adherence
Influence on depression
Influence on treatment process
Influence on costs
Etc.
