Captivated by art, science and business - Mohammad is trying to bring these three together. Moh is a drummer, a physics and biology enthusiast, and a business architect and analyst. He has studied Engineering, Business Management and Finance in academia. Also, equipped with IIBA, TOGAF and The Business Architecture Guild bodies of knowledge. Moh has worked as team member, leader and visionary in Management Consulting, Banking, Wealth, Insurance, Government, Telecom and Education industries.

Digital Transformation And Solution Architecture
Digital strategy is a statement about the organisation’s digital positioning, competitors and customer and collaborator needs and behaviour to achieve a direction for innovation, communication, transaction and promotion. Digital strategy needs to be defined in the same framework structure as the proposed digital architecture platform.
Achieving the target digital organisation means deploying solutions that enable the digital architecture. Solution architecture needs to design solutions that fit into the target digital architecture framework. This requires:
• Solution architecture team operating in an integrated manner designing solutions to a set of common standards and that run on the platform
• Solution architecture team leadership ensuring solutions conform to the common standards
• Solution architecture technical leadership to develop and maintain common solution design standards
• Solution architecture updates the digital reference architecture based on solution design experience
Digital solution design requires greater discipline to create an integrated set solutions that operate within the rigour of the digital architecture framework. The solution architecture function must interact with other IT architecture disciplines to ensure the set of solutions that implement the digital framework operate together. This requires greater solution architecture team leadership. This needs to be supplemented and supported by a well-defined set of digital solution design standards.

Review of Information Technology Function Critical Capability Models
IT Function critical capabilities are key areas where the IT function needs to maintain significant levels of competence, skill and experience and practise in order to operate and deliver a service. There are several different IT capability frameworks. The objective of these notes is to assess the suitability and applicability of these frameworks. These models can be used to identify what is important for your IT function based on your current and desired/necessary activity profile.
Capabilities vary across organisation – not all capabilities have the same importance for all organisations. These frameworks do not readily accommodate variability in the relative importance of capabilities.
The assessment approach taken is to identify a generalised set of capabilities needed across the span of IT function operations, from strategy to operations and delivery. This generic model is then be used to assess individual frameworks to determine their scope and coverage and to identify gaps.
The generic IT function capability model proposed here consists of five groups or domains of major capabilities that can be organised across the span of the IT function:
1. Information Technology Strategy, Management and Governance
2. Technology and Platforms Standards Development and Management
3. Technology and Solution Consulting and Delivery
4. Operational Run The Business/Business as Usual/Service Provision
5. Change The Business/Development and Introduction of New Services
In the context of trends and initiatives such as outsourcing, transition to cloud services and greater platform-based offerings, should the IT function develop and enhance its meta-capabilities – the management of the delivery of capabilities? Is capability identification and delivery management the most important capability? Outsourced service delivery in all its forms is not a fire-and-forget activity. You can outsource the provision of any service except the management of the supply of that service.

• IT4IT Reference Architecture https://www.opengroup.org/it4it contains 32 functional components
• European e-Competence Framework (ECF) http://www.ecompetences.eu/ contains 40 competencies

The solution architecture function should aspire to be a Solution Architecture Centre Of Excellence (SACOE). This is concerned with developing a mature function that is highly-skilled at solution architecture and design and provides solution and consulting leadership to the organisation.
Developing an SACOE requires vision and resources of both the solution architecture function and information technology management.
The solution architecture function has the capability to develop both the business insight and solution and technology expertise to act as the business/technology authority and be the bridge between the business and technology domains of the organisation.
Solution Architecture and Solution Acquisition
This describes a systematised and structured approach to solution acquisition or procurement that involves solution architecture from the start. This allows the true scope of both the required and subsequently acquired solution are therefore fully understood. By using such an approach, poor solution acquisition outcomes are avoided.
Solution architecture provides the structured approach to capturing all the cost contributors and knowing the true solution scope.
There is more packaged/product/service-based solution acquisition activity. There is an increasing trend of solutions hosted outside the organisation. Meanwhile solution acquisition outcomes are poor and getting worse.
Poor solution acquisition has long-term consequences and costs.
The to-be-acquired solution needs to operate in and co-exist with an existing solution topography and the solution acquisition process needs to be aware of and take account of this wider solution topography. Cloud-based or externally hosted and provided solutions do not eliminate the need for the solution to exist within the organisation solution topography.
Strategic misrepresentation in solution acquisition is the deliberate distortion or falsification of information relating to solution acquisition costs, complexity, required functionality, solution availability, resource availability, time to implement in order to get solution acquisition approval. Strategic misrepresentation is very real and its consequences can be very damaging.
Solution architecture has the skills and experience to define the real scope of the solution being acquired. An effective structured solution acquisition process, well-implemented and consistently applied, means dependable and repeatable solution acquisition and successful outcomes.

Adding the word architect to a software practitioner’s title seems sim-
ple enough, but beneath the surface fundamentally different thinking,
toolsets, and disciplines are required to succeed. In teaching software
architecture and working as a software architect, database architect, and
chief architect, I have often found that an unfortunate lack of knowledge
surrounds the architect’s role. Even experienced software practitioners are
often unable to define what exactly the architect does or adds to the soft-
ware development process.
THE SOFTWARE
ARCHITECT

Leadership is the defining characteristic in
an unforgiving technology arena.
The context for my discussion here is the
construction of enterprise-level business appli-
cations. I chose it for its inherent difficulty and
complexity, though the related architectural
principles may be applied to any type of soft-
ware construction. Specifically, I examine the
results of applying these principles to three sep-
arate development efforts: a product-ordering
Web site, a complex business-to-business inte-
gration project, and the design and develop-
ment of an enterprise application. Regardless
of the situation, my experience has been that
software architects are not born but trained,
sometimes in the school of hard knocks.
Although effective software architects seem to
intuitively understand and guide projects, an
intellectual framework and its associated disci-
plines and tools are behind this thinking.
Reports of IT overspending and project failure
emphasize the fact that these skills must be
developed. Software professionals in a variety
of roles can leverage them to lead software pro-
jects to exceed customer expectations.
Many seminal ideas in software architecture
can be traced back to a speech Christopher

tion gathering, detailed
planning, and the educa-

approaches address the
techniques the architect
employs at a lower level of
detail, typically with those
who construct or use the
system. This group includes software designers, pro-
ject teams, and end users. Requirements planning,
separation of the system into logical layers, and care-
ful interface definition are

tools at the ar.

Overview
As the final stop in your journey toward your Master of Science in Information Technology, you will complete a capstone project that integrates the knowledge and skills you have developed in previous coursework and over the duration of the term by working to solve an information technology problem. To do this, you will develop a project proposal that identifies the problem you plan to solve. You will then design your solution and report on the implementation of your solution. You will also reflect on your project and your journey through the Information Technology (IT) program as well as how you plan to position yourself professionally.
Evaluation of Capstone
This capstone will be assessed somewhat differently than other courses you have taken online at SNHU. There are three separate components which will be submitted at different times during the course; however, they all operate together to comprise the whole capstone experience and
are not
assessed separately. You will be evaluated on all three as a unit in determining whether you have demonstrated proficiency in each outcome. Your work is expected to meet the highest professional standards.
This assessment will evaluate your mastery with respect to the following outcomes:

Develop innovative and agile, computer-based solutions to business problems through a systems analysis approach and technology integration and application

Design a plan for implementing and monitoring solutions that incorporate core information technologies, concepts, and methods appropriate for secure information use across an enterprise

Collaborate and communicate effectively in a variety of environments through situational awareness and audience analysis
·
Develop an implementation plan for systematic information risk assessment for change management plans and processes within enterprise business and information technology environments
·
Using computational logic and critical analysis, construct ethically sound, technology-informed procedures to ensure legal compliance and maintain security within enterprise information technology environments

To simulate a real work environment, your capstone project will progress from developing a project proposal, to reporting on the design and creation of a project solution, to reflecting on the capstone experience. As you can see, writing is an important part of this capstone experience. IT professionals are not typically known for being great writers; however, successful IT professionals employ quality communication skills. The proposal, report, and reflection are opportunities for you to exhibit your superior written communication skills.

Chapter 13 Systems Development: Design, Implementation, Maintenance,
and Review
You have learned about information systems and seen a little about how the project is run to create a new
system. This week you will focus on the actual systems design process. This will help you whether you
become a programmer, systems analyst or are a department manager. There are countless articles on
this subject on the internet and some great YouTube videos so take a moment to do some extra research
and learn more about systems development.
When an IS manager sits down to design a system they look at several areas and have many special
tools at their disposal.
A systems engineer or senior developer will first look at the logical design. This usually means that they
look at the user request and determine what they really mean! Once they have clarification they will create
a physical design. This might be object-oriented (using code that has already been created) or mock ups
showing interface design and controls. This is sometimes called storyboarding. This image is an example
of creating a new user interface:
System design time is an investment for the business, it will help by preventing, detecting, and correcting
errors prior to the application software being written. It will generate systems design alternatives. One
alternative is to ask software developers to create the application for the business, this is done by creating
a request for proposal (RFP). Software vendors will then propose several options at various price points.
The business can then review the proposals, do a cost benefit analysis and select an appropriate plan of
action.
Once a project has started it is a good idea to freezing design specifications using a contract, and even a
design report called a Functional Design Document. This process is intended to allow the development
team to focus on creating a specific application and not have to try to hit a constantly moving target. As
the application is being developed it is also time to acquire the hardware that will be needed. If the
application requires a headset with microphone for voice input or a super-fast computer, this is the time to
make sure the application will be functional when it is implemented.
Types of IS hardware vendors include:
General computer manufacturers
Small computer manufacturers
Peripheral equipment manufacturers
Computer dealers and distributors
Chip makers
While the application is being developed and the hardware acquired, in a perfect world the personnel will
be hired and trained and any preparations will be done for the site and data requirements (additional disk
drives for databases or could computing). One of the phases of software development is the testing
