This building feature comes out of New Iberia, Louisiana, where Brown Builders Inc. helped Louisiana Cat meet the needs of a booming industry through the construction of a 24,000-square-foot expansion.
This particular facility is a design, fabrication and packaging center for petroleum and marine electric power generation engines. Since Louisiana is America’s third-largest producer of petroleum, and Louisiana Cat is the state’s official Caterpillar engine dealer, the demand for these engines is pretty significant. Over the past several years, the size of these generators have increased – weighing up to 141,000 pounds and reaching more than 20 feet in height. Needless to say, to keep up with the modern engines, and the demand, an expansion was needed.

CPP has long been used on deteriorated highways, but it also offers an alternative to asphalt overlays when rehabilitating city streets constructed of concrete. Minneapolis’s renewed pavements are expected to last another 25 years, making the total lifespan of the concrete streets 65-70 years. With only one major preservation cycle during that timeframe, this translates into a very low annual cost for concrete city streets.

Using Geographical Location as an Authentication Factor to Enhance mCommerce ...CSCJournals
Smartphones are increasingly used to perform mCommerce applications whilst on the move. 50% of all Smartphone owners in the U.S. used their Smartphone for banking transactions in the first quarter of 2011. This is an increase of nearly 100% compared to the year before. Current techniques used to remotely authenticate the client to the service provider in an mCommerce application are based on “static” authentication factors like passwords or tokens. The fact that the client is on the move, whilst using these mCommerce applications is not considered or used to enhance the authentication security. This paper is concerned with including client’s geographical location as an important authentication factor to enhance security of mCommerce applications, especially those requiring robust client authentication. Techniques to integrate location as an authentication factor as well as techniques to generation location-based cryptographic keys are reviewed and discussed. This paper further outlines restrictions of location as an authentication factor and gives recommendations about correct usage of client’s location information for mCommerce application’s authentication on Smartphones.

Planning for future expansion can be tricky. Powell Canada found success by collaborating with Butler Builder® Clark Builders. In a rapid-growth industry, Powell needed a structure that allowed them to operate efficiently, but also expand quickly when the time was right. The team at Powell was so impressed with the effective planning and construction that they enlisted Clark and Butler to double the size of the original project just a few years later!
When Riverhead Building Supply set out to expand its central distribution center and build the second warehouse, the original thought was to copy the design of the first building, a 124,000-square-foot structure with 16 mainframes and 48 interior columns. However, when Radon Construction, the local Butler Builder®, got involved, it became apparent the building design could be more efficient by opting for the Landmark™ 2000 structural system from Butler Manufacturing™.

Courier management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
It is now-a-days very important for the people to send or receive articles like imported furniture, electronic items, gifts, business goods and the like. People depend vastly on different transport systems which mostly use the manual way of receiving and delivering the articles. There is no way to track the articles till they are received and there is no way to let the customer know what happened in transit, once he booked some articles. In such a situation, we need a system which completely computerizes the cargo activities including time to time tracking of the articles sent. This need is fulfilled by Courier Management System software which is online software for the cargo management people that enables them to receive the goods from a source and send them to a required destination and track their status from time to time.

Once the engines are complete, they are transported to
offshore oil rigs and shipyards throughout the Gulf Coast.
The offshore petroleum industry relies on Louisiana Cat’s
staff, which includes many highly trained field service
technicians with offshore experience. They provide
specialized marine engine services for customers. With
this highly skilled workforce, Louisiana Cat faces the
challenge of meeting the needs of the booming industry.
Industry standard outgrows dealer doors
Over the past several years, the size and scope of
generators have increased. Modern generators can
weigh up to 141,000 pounds and can be more than
20 feet high. Early in 2013, Louisiana Cat decided
or nearly 100 years, Louisiana’s economic engine
has been powered by the oil and gas industry. With
the greatest concentration of crude oil refineries,
natural gas processing plants and petrochemical production
facilities in the Western Hemisphere, Louisiana is America’s
third-largest producer of petroleum and the third-leading
state in petroleum refining.
Louisiana Cat, founded in 1933, is the official Caterpillar®
dealer for the state of Louisiana and provides sales, rentals,
parts and service for Caterpillar equipment and engines
through 21 locations across the state.
The facility, located within the Port of Iberia in New Iberia,
Louisiana, is a design, fabrication and packaging center for
petroleum and marine electric power generation engines.

Brown Builders recommended the Butler®
Widespan™
structural system, which offers the
capacity to accommodate building applications
that require large areas of open-floor space.
“We have a tendency to start in one direction
and make changes, and Brown Builders is really
adaptable to changes,” Hopkins said. “We’ve
got a lot of confidence in Brown Builders, so we
follow their lead when they recommend Butler
building systems.”
Adapting to changing landscape
With the design in place, Brown Builders faced
some challenges. First, the site of the new
Butler facility was occupied by an existing
facility, and 20,000 square feet of that existing
building had to be demolished. As a result, the
remaining space had to accommodate the full
capabilities of the previously larger building
— adding immediate pressure to complete the
new building in a timely manner.
The second issue centered on the updated flood
plain levels in the area. Local governments
increased the flood plains by 2 feet after the
previous facility was built, so Brown Builders
worked with the area metropolitan planning
commission to get a building variance that
allowed the facility to be built at the previous
flood plain. This variance was crucial because
the height and lift limitations of its existing
port facility were preventing it from making
engine and generator packages large enough
to service off-shore wells so a new facility
was essential.
“Our existing facility couldn’t accommodate
the change in scale,” said Hardy Hopkins,
facility manager, Louisiana Cat. “Larger
projects are good for business, so we had
to make a change.”
A builder relationship continues
Louisiana Cat turned to an old friend in
Brown Builders Inc. Brown Builders, a 40-
year Butler Builder®
based in Bossier City,
introduced design-build to Louisiana in the
1970s. It maintains a national reputation
of expertise in construction management,
design-build and commercial construction.
The Caterpillar dealer and Butler Builder
have a long and prosperous association
dating back to 1981. For more than 30 years,
Brown Builders has provided design-build and
construction services for many Louisiana Cat
projects throughout the state. Brown Builders
again got the call when Louisiana Cat needed
to expand.
“Louisiana Cat is a great company that
serves a huge industry in Louisiana,” said
Kristen Brown, president, Brown Builders.
“We enjoy reconnecting with them on new
projects. Strategic business relationships
such as this have driven our business for
over four decades.”
Strength in design
The new Port of Iberia facility called for a
24,000-square-foot building featuring two
100-ton cranes to handle the lift capacity for
generator build and packaging processes.
The building features 60-foot ceilings and
“The new facility allows us to meet industry demands and grow
our business. We love the building and can’t wait to work with

A BANNER YEAR
FOR BROWN BUILDERS
4. 9BUILDING PROFIT SUMMER 2015
Brown Builders Inc. helped Louisiana Cat construct a recent expansion in
just seven months, which helped minimize the impact on Louisiana Cat’s
production schedule.
Louisiana Cat had to obtain a special variance from its local government
because of changes to flood plain regulations. The variance ensured the
new facility would align seamlessly with the existing building.
the design called for the new facility to
attach to the remaining portion of the
pre-existing building.
Brown Builders also proved valuable when
it came to supplying electricity to the new
facility. Louisiana Cat had to change its
transformer to increase the electric capacity
of the new building. Brown Builders worked
closely with a local electric company to
provide the proper pad to locate and tie
the electricity into the building.
Familiarity drives efficiency
To accommodate the expedited building
schedule, Brown Builders hired an erector
familiar with Butler Building Systems, adding
financial and schedule efficiencies.
“Brown Builders are all about efficiency,”
Hopkins said. “From assembly to installation,
the process is rapid and the buildings are
high quality.”
In the end, the build process was completed in
seven months. Louisiana Cat now operates its
engine and power generation packaging process
in a tall building featuring lift capabilities that
more than meet the company’s needs.
“The new facility allows us to meet industry
demands and grow our business,” Hopkins
said. “We love the building and can’t wait to
work with Brown Builders and Butler again in
the future.”
Brown Builders, a Butler Builder since
1974, credits the Louisiana commercial
construction partners who helped it do
such large business in 2014. Brown Builders
is most proud of being a Louisiana company
hiring Louisiana people to provide building
solutions and to take care of the construction
needs of large projects that might otherwise
go to out-of-state companies.
“We’ve got a lot of confidence in Brown Builders,
so we follow their lead when they recommend
Butler building systems.”
