CEMEX (Mexico) invests US$25 million to phase out fossil fuels at Rugby cement
plant in the UK
CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. announced that it is investing US$25 million in a new
system to replace fossil fuels at its Rugby cement plant in the United Kingdom
(“UK”), as part of its “Future in Action” program to achieve carbon neutrality. The
new system, which incorporates the use of green hydrogen in the production process,
is expected to be fully operational in June 2021. Once completed, it will have the
capability to operate at 100% with alternative fuels. This important investment is
designed to reduce the site’s consumption of fossil fuels. CEMEX is one of the
largest contributors to the circular economy and a leader in using alternative fuels
with over 60% use across its European operations, significantly higher than the
industry average. In the UK, CEMEX also obtains 100% of its electricity from
renewable sources. The project, which is part of a US$100 million investment
program in the UK that has contributed towards reducing CO2 emissions from
European operations by 35% from 1990 levels, 10 years ahead of its global business
target, is instrumental towards reaching its commitment of at least 55% CO2
reduction in European operations by 2030, in line with the European Commission´s
aspiration for all its member states.
Executive Commentary
“We believe that this very significant investment in this upgraded facility
supports CEMEX’s position to minimize the use of fossil fuels for both
environmental and economic reasons. It will enable the Rugby plant to
consistently operate with up to 100% alternative fuels, which will contribute to
our climate action targets,” said President of CEMEX Europe, Middle East,
Africa & Asia.

Rio Tinto (UK) to build new tellurium plant at Kennecott mine
Rio Tinto will begin construction on a new plant that will recover tellurium,
a critical mineral used in solar panels, from copper refining at its Kennecott
mine near Salt Lake City, Utah. Rio Tinto is investing $2.9 million to set up
the plant, which will recover tellurium as a byproduct of copper smelting,
extracting a valuable mineral from waste streams. The plant will have a
capacity to produce approximately 20 tonnes of tellurium per year. Rio
Tinto expects to begin production of tellurium in the fourth quarter of 2021,
creating a new North American supply chain for this critical mineral.
Tellurium is an essential component of cadmium telluride, a semiconductor
used to manufacture thin film photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. Thin films
made of this compound can efficiently convert sunlight into electricity.
Tellurium can also be used as an additive to steel and copper to improve
machinability, making these metals easier to cut. It can also be added to lead
to increase resistance to sulfuric acid, vibration and fatigue.
Executive Commentary
Rio Tinto Kennecott managing director said “The minerals and metals
we produce are essential to accelerate the transition to renewable energy.
Adding tellurium to our product portfolio provides customers in North
America with a secure and reliable source of tellurium produced at the
highest environmental and labour standards with renewable energy. Rio
Tinto is committed to using innovation to reduce waste in our
production process and extract as much value as possible from the
material that we mine and process.”

Rio Tinto (UK) connects the Pilbara to Asia with new direct freight shipping
service
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com

Solution Description
Rio Tinto has secured a new commercial freight shipping service connecting Western Australia’s Pilbara region to the major
international shipping hub of Singapore. The service will provide the company with a quicker, cheaper and cleaner alternative to the
existing freight delivery route via Perth, helping to drive regional economic development and local job creation. The regular freight
service commenced with the arrival of the MCP Graz at the Port of Dampier from Singapore. The vessel delivered essential
maintenance supplies for Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s operations in the Pilbara, including rail wagon wheels, wagon parts, oil and lubricants.
Future shipments are expected to include tyres for heavy earth moving equipment, conveyor belts, rail wagon and locomotive parts
and mining consumables. The service is also open for use by local businesses in the north-west of Australia, providing companies
operating in the region with better access to international markets and more efficient movement of freight. Rio Tinto expects the
service to reduce the lead-time for goods in to the Pilbara by six to 10 days compared with freight via Fremantle. Additionally, it’s
expected to provide an annual saving of around three million liters of diesel fuel by reducing road train travel from Perth by more
than 3.8 million kilometers.

MMK (Russia) presents software development for import substitution
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
11
Solution Description
The system is MMK-Inform service’s own software and is the result of long-term efforts to find effective document management solutions for MMK Group.
Foreign software was initially used for this purpose, but this has become obsolete in the era of digitalization. While there were a range of standard electronic
document management solutions (EDMS) on the market, these were not user-friendly and didn't take into account the specifics of the plant's internal business
processes. In response, the Group decided to come up with its own system. The initial roadmap was developed in 2016, setting out the process of transferring
10,000 employees onto the Attach system. Within a year, the system had been implemented across all MMK Group subsidiaries. MMK-Informservice
specialists succeeded in creating a mobile, convenient and user-friendly system that makes working with documents quick and simple. The development
helps to speed up information flows within the Company, as well as organize a single information space and save working time for employees. Its speed,
mobile accessibility and simple, intuitive interface that doesn't require any extra training, make the Attach system stand out. In addition, the system can
integrate with any Russian and open-source software. It also links with well-known accounting and EDI systems and allows users to make changes to the
system without the need for a developer. Documents can be signed using a range of electronic signatures and from a range of different devices. The Attach
system is not only ideal for those companies participating in the Import Substitution Programmed, but also for those who are simply striving to achieve a
more modern and efficient approach to document management and corporate communications.

dedicated to collecting large-sized marine waste. As a result, the group has collected about 1,000 tons of marine waste for 11 years since its
foundation in 2009. Pohang Clean Ocean Volunteer Group also received attention for their volunteer activities reflecting the local community. One
such example is the marine clean-up activities on Ulleungdo and Dokdo, where the whitening phenomenon* is threatening the marine ecosystem.
The group has improved the livelihood of local residents and the marine ecosystem by collecting ocean wastes and starfish. Last year, they visited
coastal villages in Pohang, where the typhoons Mysak and Highsun struck and carried out underwater clean-up and inland garbage collecting
activities. Also, POSCO Clean Ocean Volunteer Group is channeling its effort into collecting plastic wastes from the ocean, which has become a
social issue in recent years.

Kobe Steel (Japan) newly developed nano-carbon composite coat titanium
adopted by new Toyota “Mirai” fuel cell electric vehicle
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
17
Kobe Steel, Ltd. announces that it has succeeded in the development and mass production of the world’s first nano-carbon composite coat titanium (NC
titanium). The new titanium material was adopted by Toyota Motor Corporation for the latest model of Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle launched in December
2020. Kobe Steel received from Toyota the Project Award in the category of 2020 model year FCEVs in recognition of the company’s superior technology
that contributes to the enhancement of the product potential of the new Mirai. NC titanium is used for separators of the fuel cell stack, which is a power
generator for FCEVs. The materials used for separators must have corrosion resistance, surface conductivity, and formability. The KOBELCO Group has
succeeded in developing NC titanium that meets these requirements by utilizing the synergy of its diverse businesses through a combination of titanium
rolling material manufacturing and surface treatment technologies in the materials business and the vacuum surface treatment and related equipment
technologies in the machinery business. Titanium has superior corrosion resistance compared to other metal materials such as steel and aluminum. The
specific gravity of titanium is about 60% that of iron, making it a very suitable metal material for the development of lighter vehicles. The main feature of
NC titanium is that it has both high corrosion resistance and surface conductivity. NC titanium also has the formability to withstand press forming, and by
applying NC surface treatment to the rolled strip in advance, surface treatment after press forming is not required. As a result, NC titanium contributes to the
further downsizing and higher performance of fuel cell stacks, as well as the dramatic improvement in productivity at the customer’s production site.

distributed to metal trading warehouses located in the "home" regions (the Urals, the Volga region, Siberia and the Far East). The most popular
products were hot-rolled products and grades, which accounted for more than 60% of sales (34% and 29%, respectively). Of MMK's total
sales to the metal trading industry and metal service centres, about 40% is sold through its own sales network, MMK Trading House, which
is the authorised representative of the plant in all regions of Russia and in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Currently, MMK Trading House has
32 separate branches in Russia, as well as five branches in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2020, MMK Trading House showed shipment
dynamics similar to the general trends in the market – a decline in Q2 followed by growth in H2 2020. Overall, the increase in sales volume
compared to 2019 was 11% (average order size also increased by the same amount), while shipments to construction industry enterprises
increased by 17% thanks to state support measures, and sales to transport engineering enterprises grew by 18%.

HeidelbergCement (Germany) pioneers new carbon capture technology in
Redding, USA
For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com
23
HeidelbergCement’s US subsidiary Lehigh Hanson and Silicon Valley-based materials technology company Fortera have announced a
collaboration to implement a new type of carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technology in a pilot installation at Lehigh’s Redding
California cement facility, with an expected 60% reduction in CO2 emissions per tonne of product. Both partners will construct and
operate a small commercial plant where CO2 will be captured from the kiln exhaust and converted into a cementitious material. The final
product will be suitable for use as a new low carbon SCM (Supplementary Cementitious Material) in the production of high-quality
concrete with a lower CO2 footprint. The product generated within the new carbon capture process at the Redding plant will be the first
cementitious material produced commercially from CO2 captured directly from a cement kiln. Fortera’s proprietary recarbonation
(ReCarbTM) process works by tapping into the existing feedstock and equipment at the plant, while production carries on as usual from
the quarry to the kiln. Instead of then releasing CO2, the kiln exhaust is captured and mineralized into a cementitious material. The
material can be co-blended with portland cement and used by ready mixed concrete producers as a Supplementary Cementitious Material
(SCM) or as a cementitious binder for preformed concrete materials like bricks, blocks or precast structures.

UPM Biomedicals is excited to announce its collaboration with bioconvergence company CELLINK. The partnership brings together
UPM’s expertise for producing non-animal derived, nanocellulose biomaterials with CELLINK’s years of experience in method
development for 3D bioprinting, offering new groundbreaking solutions to this growing life sciences market. Advances in 3D printing
in the past decade have been outstanding, and the technology is becoming more widely used for various cutting-edge applications.
3D bioprinting is already important in areas such as cancer research, where tumour models can be printed to test their response to
different treatments. More recently scientists have been exploring the use of this technology in a clinical setting, with the possibility
of printing tissues or organs that can then be transplanted into patients. Using non-animal derived raw materials, such as UPM’s
nanofibrillar cellulose, for bio-ink formulations makes transplants into humans much more effective, reducing the possibility of an
immune response or rejection. The collaboration of two strong partners, CELLINK and UPM, builds confidence in making these
treatments into an industrial and clinical standard, applied in a wider setting instead of remaining only within few hospitals.

CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. announced that it has successfully introduced ground-breaking hydrogen technology as part of its fuel mix in all of its cement
plants in Europe. With an estimated US$40 million investment program, it is also moving quickly to extend this technology to the rest of its operations
around the world, including Mexico, the USA, South, Central America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. This innovative technology using hydrogen,
which emits zero CO2 from combustion, enables further reduction of fossil fuels, improves energy efficiency and consequently is another milestone
towards CO2 emissions reduction targets. The company executed initial trials of this technology at the Alicante Cement Plant in Spain in July 2019 and
quickly confirmed its potential as a lever to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The technology was installed in 2020 in all cement plants in Europe.
In 2021, CEMEX will roll this out to substantially all its global operations. With this new technology, hydrogen enhances the cement kiln's combustion
process, adding another relevant tool in the company's 2030 roadmap to reduce CO2 emissions in the short term. In 2020, CEMEX announced its
Climate Action strategy, defining a global target of a 35% reduction of CO2 emissions per ton of cementitious products by 2030. For its operations in
Europe, CEMEX also defined a 55% reduction target, in line with what the European Commission set as a new goal for all its member states. To
complement this strategy with a longer-term vision, CEMEX also established an ambition to deliver net-zero CO2 concrete to all its customers globally
by 2050.

Kobe Steel, Ltd. announces that it has successfully demonstrated the technology that can reduce a significant amount of CO2
emissions from blast furnace operations, combining the technologies of Midrex in the engineering business and the blast furnace
operation technology in the iron and steel business. This achievement is a result of the integrated efforts of the Kobe Steel Group (also
known as the KOBELCO Group) leveraging its diverse businesses. The demonstration test was conducted for a month at a large blast
furnace (4,844 m3) of the Kakogawa Works in Hyogo Prefecture. The quantity of CO2 emissions from the blast furnace is determined
by the reducing agent rate (RAR) or the quantity of carbon fuel used in blast furnace ironmaking. In the demonstration test, it was
verified that RAR could be stably reduced from 518 kg/tHM (ton hot metal) to 415 kg/tHM by charging a large amount of hot
briquetted iron (HBI) produced by the MIDREX® Process. The results indicate that this technology can reduce CO2 emissions by
approximately 20% compared to a conventional method. In addition, the world's lowest level of coke rate (239 kg/tHM) has been
achieved in the demonstration test of this technology. The company sees it as a promising solution that could become readily available
in the near future at a lower additional cost compared to other CO2 reduction measures.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consec- tetuer Financial, M&A Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable CEMEX (Mexico) invests US$25 million to phase out fossil fuels at Rugby cement plant in the UK CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. announced that it is investing US$25 million in a new system to replace fossil fuels at its Rugby cement plant in the United Kingdom (“UK”), as part of its “Future in Action” program to achieve carbon neutrality. The new system, which incorporates the use of green hydrogen in the production process, is expected to be fully operational in June 2021. Once completed, it will have the capability to operate at 100% with alternative fuels. This important investment is designed to reduce the site’s consumption of fossil fuels. CEMEX is one of the largest contributors to the circular economy and a leader in using alternative fuels with over 60% use across its European operations, significantly higher than the industry average. In the UK, CEMEX also obtains 100% of its electricity from renewable sources. The project, which is part of a US$100 million investment program in the UK that has contributed towards reducing CO2 emissions from European operations by 35% from 1990 levels, 10 years ahead of its global business target, is instrumental towards reaching its commitment of at least 55% CO2 reduction in European operations by 2030, in line with the European Commission´s aspiration for all its member states. Executive Commentary “We believe that this very significant investment in this upgraded facility supports CEMEX’s position to minimize the use of fossil fuels for both environmental and economic reasons. It will enable the Rugby plant to consistently operate with up to 100% alternative fuels, which will contribute to our climate action targets,” said President of CEMEX Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia. • 9. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consec- tetuer Financial, M&A Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Rio Tinto (UK) to build new tellurium plant at Kennecott mine Rio Tinto will begin construction on a new plant that will recover tellurium, a critical mineral used in solar panels, from copper refining at its Kennecott mine near Salt Lake City, Utah. Rio Tinto is investing $2.9 million to set up the plant, which will recover tellurium as a byproduct of copper smelting, extracting a valuable mineral from waste streams. The plant will have a capacity to produce approximately 20 tonnes of tellurium per year. Rio Tinto expects to begin production of tellurium in the fourth quarter of 2021, creating a new North American supply chain for this critical mineral. Tellurium is an essential component of cadmium telluride, a semiconductor used to manufacture thin film photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. Thin films made of this compound can efficiently convert sunlight into electricity. Tellurium can also be used as an additive to steel and copper to improve machinability, making these metals easier to cut. It can also be added to lead to increase resistance to sulfuric acid, vibration and fatigue. Executive Commentary Rio Tinto Kennecott managing director said “The minerals and metals we produce are essential to accelerate the transition to renewable energy. Adding tellurium to our product portfolio provides customers in North America with a secure and reliable source of tellurium produced at the highest environmental and labour standards with renewable energy. Rio Tinto is committed to using innovation to reduce waste in our production process and extract as much value as possible from the material that we mine and process.” For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com Description 4

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nib Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable MMK (Russia) presents software development for import substitution For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 11 Solution Description The system is MMK-Inform service’s own software and is the result of long-term efforts to find effective document management solutions for MMK Group. Foreign software was initially used for this purpose, but this has become obsolete in the era of digitalization. While there were a range of standard electronic document management solutions (EDMS) on the market, these were not user-friendly and didn't take into account the specifics of the plant's internal business processes. In response, the Group decided to come up with its own system. The initial roadmap was developed in 2016, setting out the process of transferring 10,000 employees onto the Attach system. Within a year, the system had been implemented across all MMK Group subsidiaries. MMK-Informservice specialists succeeded in creating a mobile, convenient and user-friendly system that makes working with documents quick and simple. The development helps to speed up information flows within the Company, as well as organize a single information space and save working time for employees. Its speed, mobile accessibility and simple, intuitive interface that doesn't require any extra training, make the Attach system stand out. In addition, the system can integrate with any Russian and open-source software. It also links with well-known accounting and EDI systems and allows users to make changes to the system without the need for a developer. Documents can be signed using a range of electronic signatures and from a range of different devices. The Attach system is not only ideal for those companies participating in the Import Substitution Programmed, but also for those who are simply striving to achieve a more modern and efficient approach to document management and corporate communications.

  • 25. Customer Success Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Kobe Steel (Japan) newly developed nano-carbon composite coat titanium adopted by new Toyota “Mirai” fuel cell electric vehicle For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 17 Kobe Steel, Ltd. announces that it has succeeded in the development and mass production of the world’s first nano-carbon composite coat titanium (NC titanium). The new titanium material was adopted by Toyota Motor Corporation for the latest model of Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle launched in December 2020. Kobe Steel received from Toyota the Project Award in the category of 2020 model year FCEVs in recognition of the company’s superior technology that contributes to the enhancement of the product potential of the new Mirai. NC titanium is used for separators of the fuel cell stack, which is a power generator for FCEVs. The materials used for separators must have corrosion resistance, surface conductivity, and formability. The KOBELCO Group has succeeded in developing NC titanium that meets these requirements by utilizing the synergy of its diverse businesses through a combination of titanium rolling material manufacturing and surface treatment technologies in the materials business and the vacuum surface treatment and related equipment technologies in the machinery business. Titanium has superior corrosion resistance compared to other metal materials such as steel and aluminum. The specific gravity of titanium is about 60% that of iron, making it a very suitable metal material for the development of lighter vehicles. The main feature of NC titanium is that it has both high corrosion resistance and surface conductivity. NC titanium also has the formability to withstand press forming, and by applying NC surface treatment to the rolled strip in advance, surface treatment after press forming is not required. As a result, NC titanium contributes to the further downsizing and higher performance of fuel cell stacks, as well as the dramatic improvement in productivity at the customer’s production site. Partner Ecosystem Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable HeidelbergCement (Germany) pioneers new carbon capture technology in Redding, USA For any queries, Please write to marketing@itshades.com 23 HeidelbergCement’s US subsidiary Lehigh Hanson and Silicon Valley-based materials technology company Fortera have announced a collaboration to implement a new type of carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technology in a pilot installation at Lehigh’s Redding California cement facility, with an expected 60% reduction in CO2 emissions per tonne of product. Both partners will construct and operate a small commercial plant where CO2 will be captured from the kiln exhaust and converted into a cementitious material. The final product will be suitable for use as a new low carbon SCM (Supplementary Cementitious Material) in the production of high-quality concrete with a lower CO2 footprint. The product generated within the new carbon capture process at the Redding plant will be the first cementitious material produced commercially from CO2 captured directly from a cement kiln. Fortera’s proprietary recarbonation (ReCarbTM) process works by tapping into the existing feedstock and equipment at the plant, while production carries on as usual from the quarry to the kiln. Instead of then releasing CO2, the kiln exhaust is captured and mineralized into a cementitious material. The material can be co-blended with portland cement and used by ready mixed concrete producers as a Supplementary Cementitious Material (SCM) or as a cementitious binder for preformed concrete materials like bricks, blocks or precast structures.
