Rastafarians are
monotheistic, believing in
one God who called Jah
singular. The Rastas see
Jah as the essence in the
form of the Holy Trinity,
which is, Father, Son and
the Holy of creation. The
Rastas say that Jah, in the
form of the Blessed creation
(incarnate), lives within the
human.
The Rastafarian movement is a
spiritual movement that
believes that Haile Selassie I is
the third incarnation of Jah,
short for Yahweh, after
Melchizedek and Jesus.
It emerged in the early 1930s
in the slums of Kingston,
Jamaica and adjacent rural
areas, 4 being the cultural and
social vision that inspired
Marcus Garvey Rastafarians,
who even consider a
reincarnation of John the
Baptist.
3. The Rastafarian movement takes its name
from Ras (Prince) Tafari Makonnen (name
/surname). At the coronation as Emperor
Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, (1930) this
was seen as the culmination of Marcus
Garvey's prophecy of a decade earlier
4. The Conquering Lion is also an important
Rastafarian symbol, symbolizing both
Africa and the Emperor Haile Selassie, or
Jah same. It also represents strength and
fight against oppression and injustice
applied to the African people.
