Robert Nesta Marley, known as Bob Marley, was born in 1964 in Nine Mile, Jamaica to a Jamaican mother and British father. He was a member of the Rastafari movement, a religious group that originated in Jamaica in the 1930s among poorer classes who mixed Christianity with certain opinions from Ethiopianism. Bob Marley was a follower of the Rastafari religion.
