The main causes of global warming are greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and CFCs. Carbon dioxide is emitted primarily from power plants burning fossil fuels for electricity and from vehicle gasoline combustion. Methane is emitted from sources like rice paddies, cattle, bogs, and fossil fuel production. Nitrous oxide comes from fertilizer use, cars, and burning organic matter. CFCs are emitted from refrigerators, air conditioners, and spray/foam production. Carbon dioxide accounts for 60% of greenhouse gases and increases 0.3-0.5% annually.
