Maize plant is affected by as many as 61 diseases, out of which 16 have been identified a major ones which occur both in tropical and temperate regions of India (Sharma and Payak, 1986). Among these, banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB) incited by Rhizoctonia solani is gaining economic importance. Grain yield loss, depending on severity varies between 11 to 40 per cent (Singh and Sharma, 1976). Lal et al. (1985) reported that the losses in grain yield may vary to the extent of over 90.0 per cent. Now BLSB is considered to be one of the most serious problem threatening cultivation of maize in India. It appears on plants before flowering, which is highly favoured by warm humid weather, and it causes severe damages to leaves, leaf sheaths as well as cobs (Fig. 1). For an economic and effective control of this disease, development of resistant genotypes is of primary importance. Hence, the present investigation was carried out to study the inheritance of resistance of this disease.

ABSTRACT: The majority of the population in developing countries uses plants or plant preparations in their basic health care.Many plant species have been proved to have antimicrobial activity. Lots of the antibiotics had been at the beginningderived from micro-organisms even as the chemotherapeutic agents are from vegetation. Together with other dosagevarieties, natural drugs are additionally formulated within the type of gel. A gel is a viscous semisolidpreparation used topically on a variety of body surfaces. Thus, the main objective of the present study is to formulateand evaluate a polyherbal gel with antimicrobial activity. Gel were formulated usinghydroalcoholic extracts(by continuous hot percolation-soxhlation) ofAnacardium occidentale, Achyranthes aspera and Aegle marmelosand wereevaluated for its physicochemical properties. The hydroalcoholic extracts of the chosen plants were taken in specific ratio randomly and the antimicrobialtests of the combinations had been applied. Gel were all set making use of special concentrations of the extracts Formulations had been then tested for itsphysicochemical properties like Clogging,texture,, pH, spreadability, extrudability and gave satisfactory results. Probablythe most powerful mixture used to be then determined via evaluating the results of the zone of inhibition given throughdistinct extract ratios on S. Mutant, Proteus mirabilis,and Candida A,The entire formulations confirmed predominant recreationagainst selected species. Theformulations are found to be very efficacious in all the parameters which has conducted and alsofound enhanceantimicrobial property. Overall result of this study reveals that this is an effective polyherbal antimicrobial gel.

Unani medicine, one of the oldest system of medicine which utilises natural herbs, animal extracts and minerals in treating diseases is gaining popularity world wide. Unani medicine as the name suggests, originated in greece or unan. It was the greek philosopher-physician Hippocrates (460-377BC) who freed medicine from the realm of superstition and magic and gave the status of science. The theorectical frame work of unani medicine is based on the teachings of Hippocrates. He believed that whenever and where ever possible medicine should be gentle and safe. This is the main objective of unani medicine. After Hippocrates, a number of Greek scholars enriched the system and it imbibed the best from contemporary system of medicine in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Persia, India, china and other Middle east and far East countries. Thats why the system is known in different parts of the world by different names, like Greco-Arab medicine, Ionian medicine, Arab or Islamic medicine, Oriental medicine and so on. ONE OF THE LEADING UNANI MEDICINE INSTITUTION IN SOUTHERN INDIA The fundamental principle of the unani system recognises that disease is a natural process and symptoms of a disease are body's reaction to disease. The chief function of the physician is to aid the natural forces of the body. The unani medicine is based on the Humoral theory-which presupposes the presence of four humors. They are Dum (blood), Balgham (phlegm), Safra (yellow bile) and Sauda ( black bile). The body has the power of self preservation to maintain a correct balance of these humors, which is called as Quwwat-e-Mudabbira (Medicatrix natura). Unani medicines help the body to regain this balance. The essential constituents and the working principles of the body, according to Unani, can be classified into seven main groups: arkan or elements, comprising earth, water, air and fire as different states of matter and the building blocks of everything in the universe; mizaj (temperament); akhlat (humours); aza (organs); arwah (life, spirits or vital breaths); quva (energy); and af'al (action). Each of the four elements has its own special qualities: earth is cold and dry; water is cold and moist; fire is hot and dry; air is hot and moist. The resultant quality of the uniform body is called its mizaj. The temperament of a substance may be a mizaj-e-mutadil (balanced one) or a mizaj-e-ghair-mutadil (imbalanced one). Different types and shades of imbalanced temperaments are described in Unani, which believes that at birth every person is endowed with a unique and healthy humoural constitution determining the temperament of an individual. Unani also postulates that the body contains a self-preservative power, which strives to restore any disturbance within the limits prescribed by the constitution or state of the individual. The physician merely aims to help and develop rather than supersede or impede the action of this power. The unani Physician-called Hakim diagnoses a disease by feeling the Nabz(pulse) and rhythmic expansion of arteries by fingers. stool and urine examination also help in diagnosis. Four types of treatment lines are available: (1) Ilaj bil tadbeer (regimental therapy), (2) Ilaj bil Ghiza (dietotherapy), (3) Ilaj bil dawa (Pharmacotherapy) and (4) Jarahat (Surgery). The regimental therapy includes procedures like venesection, cupping, Turkish bath, massage, exercise and leeching among others. These therapies involves working on specificbody reflexes, most commonly by massage. But in case of musculoskeletal problems like arthrities and back pain, application of cold, heat or suction cups is also done. In rare instances, serious and acute diseases are treated by puncturing certain reflex points, during which afew drops of blood are released. unani or Unani medicine (Urdu: طب یونانی tibb yūnānī) is the term for Perso-Arabic traditional medicine, practiced in Mughal India and in Muslim culture in South Asia and modern day Central Asia. The term is derived from Arabic Yūnānī "Greek", as the Perso-Arabic system of medicine was in turn based on the teachings of the Greek physicians Hippocrates and Galen.The medical tradition of medieval Islam was introduced to India by the 13th century with the establishment of the Delhi Sultanate and it took its own course of development during the Mughal Empire , influenced by Indian medical teachings of Sushruta and Charaka.

A B S T R A C T The main objective of the present study is to formulate and evaluate a poly herbal ointment with antiseptic activity. Ointments were formulated using methanolic extracts of Eclipta alba, Ocimum sanctum, Azadiracta indica and Achyranthes aspera which were evaluated for its physicochemical property, antibacterial and antioxidant activity. Ointments were prepared using different concentrations of the extracts such as 2%, 4%, 6% w/w by fusion method using emulsifying ointment as base. Formulations were then tested for its physicochemical properties which gave satisfactory results. The prepared formulations were also stable at 4ºC, 25ºC and 37ºC. Further, Polyherbal formulations were evaluated for its antibacterial activity against Betadine (5%w/w) as the standard. All the formulations showed Predominant activity against selected species. Formulations were also evaluated for anti-oxidant activity through reducing power assay, nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide scavenging method. The results showed that the scavenging activity of the formulations increased with increase in concentration and this is due to the presence of flavanoids and tannins. The presence of both antibacterial and antioxidant activity reveals that the prepared ointment can also be used for wound healing. Hence an attempt was made to formulate a Polyherbal ointment, and to evaluate for its physical parameter, in-vitro anti-oxidant activity and to compare its antibacterial activity with a marketed formulation (5% w/w Betadine).Overall result of this study reveals that this is an effective Polyherbal antiseptic ointment. The prostate is an exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system It is a walnut-sized gland that forms part of the male reproductive system and is located in front of the rectum and just below the urinary bladder Function is to store and secrete a clear, slightly alkaline fluid that constitutes 10-30% of the volume of the seminal fluid that along with the spermatozoa, constitutes semen A healthy human prostate measures (4cm-vertical, by 3cm-horizontal, 2cm ant-post ). It surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It has anterior, median, posterior and two lateral lobes It’s work is regulated by androgens which are responsible for male sex characteristics Generalised disease of the prostate due to hormonal derangement which leads to non malignant enlargement of the gland (increase in the number of epithelial cells and stromal tissue)to cause compression of the urethra leading to symptoms (LUTS
