Obesity is a complex disease with various contributing factors. It is defined as excessive fat accumulation that may impair health. According to WHO, over 1.6 billion adults are overweight globally, with 400 million being obese. Obesity rates have sharply increased worldwide and are projected to affect over 2.3 billion adults by 2020. Unani medicine attributes obesity to disturbances in digestion and metabolism, temperament, and lifestyle factors. Treatment focuses on diet modification, exercise, pharmacotherapy using herbs to aid weight loss, and lifestyle changes like adequate sleep and stress management.
This document provides information on various traditional medicine systems including Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, and Acupuncture. It discusses their origins, key concepts and principles, causes of disease according to each system, diagnosis methods, commonly treated diseases, famous advocates, herbal medicines and products, textbooks, and research on treating serious conditions like AIDS and cancer. The information presented suggests that while these traditional systems have treated people for centuries, more research is still needed to scientifically validate treatments and standardize practices, especially for new diseases. Unani medicine uses a holistic and balanced approach to diagnosis and restoration of health through the body's natural forces of recuperation. It is derived from Greek, Arabic, and Persian medical knowledge but was primarily influenced by translated Greek medical texts. Unani medicine aims to maintain health and prevent disease through diet and exercise, and treats disease only when necessary, preferring the body's natural healing processes. It has had a significant historical influence as a prerequisite to modern Western medicine following the Arab-Muslim decline and contributed extensively to medical knowledge through comprehensive texts.
The document discusses global status and trade of Unani botanicals. It provides statistics on Unani botanicals by region. There are lists of globally used Unani botanicals classified by which pharmacopeias they match and which systems of medicine they are used in. The document also discusses the global herbal market and compares export of herbal drugs between China and India. It recognizes the need for evaluation and standardization of Unani botanicals and provides photographs of botanical exhibitions.
Unani medicine provides treatments and preventative measures for swine flu. These include steam inhalation, maintaining hygiene, consuming herbal medicines like Arq Ajeeb and Joshina syrup, and applying Kafoori balm to the chest and nose. Patients should see a physician if symptoms persist after following these treatments. Diagnostic tests like real-time RT-PCR are recommended to confirm cases of swine flu and determine if hospitalization is necessary in higher medical centers.

Unani medicine originated in Greece and has spread throughout the world. It is based on humoral theory and the concept of temperaments. Treatment involves regimen, diet, medication, and manual operations. Regimen includes therapies like cauterization, diuresis, diaphoresis, emesis, purging, venisection, cupping, leeching, massage, and exercises. Unani takes a holistic approach to health focusing on the inherent mechanisms of the body using dietary regulation, lifestyle routines, and faith. Education and cultural exchange can help spread Unani principles.
1. Psychosomatic disorders occur when mental stress or emotional factors negatively impact physical health. According to Unani medicine, disturbances in psychic faculties like the brain can lead to stress-related issues like depression.
2. Unani recognizes lifestyle factors like diet, exercise, sleep, and social support as essential to well-being. Imbalances in these "six essentials" as well as the temperament can contribute to psychosomatic disorders.
3. Treatment focuses on eliminating causes, correcting temperament imbalances, and strengthening the heart-mind connection. Approaches include dietary therapy, exercise, relaxation, and medications aimed at reducing stress symptoms.
The document discusses management of obesity in the Unani system of medicine. It begins by defining obesity scientifically and discussing prevalence rates. It then covers the Unani concept of obesity, called siman-e-mufrit, which refers to excessive fat caused by increased coldness and moisture in the body. The etiology involves disturbances in digestion and metabolism, temperament imbalances, and disruptions to essential factors like diet, physical activity, sleep, and excretion. Treatment focuses on diet therapy, lifestyle modifications, and procedures to correct metabolism and temperament imbalances. Specific foods like fruits and vegetables that increase volume without calories are recommended as part of the diet therapy approach.
Unani medicine has spread globally from its origins in Greece. It is now recognized in India and taught in both government and private institutes. Courses range from 2-3 year diplomas to 5.5 year degree programs. Unani is also practiced in parts of the Middle East, South Asia, East Africa, Europe, Australia, and North America in both mainstream and complementary medicine settings. Major centers of learning and research include institutions in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Syria, South Africa, the UK, and Australia.

Unani medicine is an ancient Greek-influenced system of medicine that was developed in India. It is based on the theory of four humors - blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile. Unani medicine views the human body as composed of several organic systems whose equilibrium is vital for health. Treatment focuses on regimen, diet, medication, and surgery to restore humoral balance. Unani medicine remains widely practiced in India as an alternative to allopathic medicine.
This slideshow presents an introduction to the oldest medical system in the World- Ayurveda. I have tried to offer a story of Ayurveda that, like its name (Ayu-Life and Veda-Knowledge) would give anyone an understanding of the fundamental principles, necessary to make the best use of their life and health.
This document summarizes the history and theory of Unani medicine, an ancient system of traditional medicine that originated in India and was later influenced by Greek, Roman, Arabic, and Persian practices. It discusses the key concepts of humors, temperaments, diagnosis using the pulse, and treatment principles focused on restoring balance and allowing the body's natural defenses to heal. The document traces how Unani medicine incorporated ideas from scientific revolutions and adapted its theories over the 18th-19th centuries while still relying on core humoral principles.
Unani medicine, one of the oldest system of medicine which utilises natural herbs, animal extracts and minerals in treating diseases is gaining popularity world wide.
Unani medicine as the name suggests, originated in greece or unan. It was the greek philosopher-physician Hippocrates (460-377BC) who freed medicine from the realm of superstition and magic and gave the status of science. The theorectical frame work of unani medicine is based on the teachings of Hippocrates. He believed that whenever and where ever possible medicine should be gentle and safe. This is the main objective of unani medicine. After Hippocrates, a number of Greek scholars enriched the system and it imbibed the best from contemporary system of medicine in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Persia, India, china and other Middle east and far East countries. Thats why the system is known in different parts of the world by different names, like Greco-Arab medicine, Ionian medicine, Arab or Islamic medicine, Oriental medicine and so on.

The fundamental principle of the unani system recognises that disease is a natural process and symptoms of a disease are body's reaction to disease. The chief function of the physician is to aid the natural forces of the body. The unani medicine is based on the Humoral theory-which presupposes the presence of four humors. They are Dum (blood), Balgham (phlegm), Safra (yellow bile) and Sauda ( black bile). The body has the power of self preservation to maintain a correct balance of these humors, which is called as Quwwat-e-Mudabbira (Medicatrix natura). Unani medicines help the body to regain this balance.
The essential constituents and the working principles of the body, according to Unani, can be classified into seven main groups: arkan or elements, comprising earth, water, air and fire as different states of matter and the building blocks of everything in the universe; mizaj (temperament); akhlat (humours); aza (organs); arwah (life, spirits or vital breaths); quva (energy); and af'al (action).
Each of the four elements has its own special qualities: earth is cold and dry; water is cold and moist; fire is hot and dry; air is hot and moist. The resultant quality of the uniform body is called its mizaj. The temperament of a substance may be a mizaj-e-mutadil (balanced one) or a mizaj-e-ghair-mutadil (imbalanced one).
Different types and shades of imbalanced temperaments are described in Unani, which believes that at birth every person is endowed with a unique and healthy humoural constitution determining the temperament of an individual.
Unani also postulates that the body contains a self-preservative power, which strives to restore any disturbance within the limits prescribed by the constitution or state of the individual. The physician merely aims to help and develop rather than supersede or impede the action of this power.
The unani Physician-called Hakim diagnoses a disease by feeling the Nabz(pulse) and rhythmic expansion of arteries by fingers. stool and urine examination also help in diagnosis.
Four types of treatment lines are available:
(1) Ilaj bil tadbeer (regimental therapy),
(2) Ilaj bil Ghiza (dietotherapy),
(3) Ilaj bil dawa (Pharmacotherapy) and
(4) Jarahat (Surgery).
The regimental therapy includes procedures like venesection, cupping, Turkish bath, massage, exercise and leeching among others. These therapies involves working on specificbody reflexes, most commonly by massage. But in case of musculoskeletal problems like arthrities and back pain, application of cold, heat or suction cups is also done. In rare instances, serious and acute diseases are treated by puncturing certain reflex points, during which afew drops of blood are released.
Similarly, dietotherapy involves administration of specific
Ayurveda can treat and cure many surgical conditions and diseases without surgery by using herbal medicines and treatments. Some conditions that Ayurveda can effectively treat include nasal and throat issues, glandular problems, lung disorders, kidney stones, gallbladder issues, ulcers, fistulas, piles, and some early-stage cancers. It is best to consult an experienced Ayurvedic physician before undergoing surgery to see if the condition can be treated without invasive procedures. Blending Ayurveda with other complementary therapies like yoga, physiotherapy, and homeopathy can provide faster and easier cures.
unani or Unani medicine (Urdu: طب یونانی tibb yūnānī) is the term for Perso-Arabic traditional medicine, practiced in Mughal India and in Muslim culture in South Asia and modern day Central Asia. The term is derived from Arabic Yūnānī "Greek", as the Perso-Arabic system of medicine was in turn based on the teachings of the Greek physicians Hippocrates and Galen. The medical tradition of medieval Islam was introduced to India by the 13th century with the establishment of the Delhi Sultanate and it took its own course of development during the Mughal Empire , influenced by Indian medical teachings of Sushruta and Charaka.

Ranavirus was detected in several lizard species in Germany between 2011-2012, including green striped tree dragons, Asian glass lizards, green anoles, green iguanas, and bearded dragons. This represents the first detection of ranavirus in these lizard species. Sequence analysis found the viruses infecting each species were distinct yet related to other ranaviruses. The study suggests ranavirus infection may be an increasing threat to lizards and can cause disease in a variety of host species, especially when animals are transported or housed in large groups.
The document discusses scar revision and scar formation. It describes that scars are remnants of healed wounds and can be caused by injuries, burns, or surgery. Scars are formed through the skin's wound healing process as collagen deposits in the dermis. Abnormal scars like hypertrophic scars and keloids form excess collagen and do not regress over time. The document outlines factors that influence scar formation and treatments for improving scars.

It presents a case report of a 65-year-old male who underwent surgery under general anesthesia. Special consent was obtained for no blood transfusion. Intraoperatively, blood loss was replaced with crystalloids and the colloid Tetrastarch (Voluven) to maintain cardiovascular stability given the patient's anemia. The patient had an uneventful recovery without blood transfusion, demonstrating that surgery can be safely performed in Jehovah's Witness patients refusing transfusion through careful pre-operative optimization and use of alternatives to blood loss replacement like collo
This case report describes a rare case of primary corneal hemangiosarcoma in a cat. The cat presented with chronic keratitis and ocular discharge in one eye that worsened over several months. Examination found a vascularized mass in the cornea. Histopathology of a keratectomy sample found highly cellular spindle and polygonal cells lining blood-filled spaces, consistent with hemangiosarcoma. The eye was eventually enucleated due to risk of recurrence and metastasis. This represents the first reported case of primary corneal hemangiosarcoma in a cat.

This document discusses radiation protection. It states that ionizing radiation can potentially harm biological tissues by changing the normal structure and function of tissue atoms. While any level of exposure may cause damage, repair is usually possible from low-level exposures. Natural sources, such as cosmic rays and radon, account for about 83% of radiation exposure, while man-made sources like medical procedures and consumer products make up the remaining 17%. The concepts of limiting exposure as much as reasonably achievable and weighing the risks versus benefits of exposure are discussed. Standards and guidelines aim to appropriately limit risk of bodily injury from radiation.
Sexually transmitted diseases include infections transmitted through sexual contact such as syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, and human papillomavirus. These diseases are caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites and can affect the genitals, mouth, or rectum. Common symptoms include sores, discharge from the penis or vagina, and rashes. Diseases are diagnosed through tests of bodily fluids or tissues and treated with antibiotics or antiviral medications. Untreated STDs can lead to serious health problems.

The biomaterial is a nanopatterned composite of hyaluronic acid, collagen, and matrical peptides that experimental studies found promoted more rapid wound healing in rats compared to controls. Clinical studies involving burns, ulcers, and other wounds showed effectiveness rates of 90-94.5%. The biomaterial is proposed for commercialization with an estimated $40-50 million annual market and growth of over 30% annually. Initial production and sales organization are the current project stage.
Bases of Forensic medical traumatology. Blunt objectsEneutron
The document discusses various types of injuries in forensic traumatology including abrasions, bruises, lacerations, and fractures. It describes the characteristics of each type of injury, how to determine the age of an injury, differences between ante-mortem and post-mortem wounds, complications that can arise, and the medico-legal importance of various injuries. Specific topics covered include mechanisms of abrasion formation, patterns of bruising, types of lacerations such as split or stretch lacerations, and factors that help determine whether a wound occurred before or after death.
Richard, a 51-year-old male, presented with epigastric distress, weight loss, anemia, and renal failure. Bone marrow testing revealed he had multiple myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells which produces monoclonal proteins that can cause organ and tissue damage. He was diagnosed based on his bone marrow containing over 20% plasma cells and laboratory findings showing monoclonal proteins. Multiple myeloma is typically treated with chemotherapy like melphalan and prednisone or stem cell transplants, though newer agents like thalidomide and bortezomib have improved outcomes in some patients.
The document discusses the assessment and management of extremity trauma and compartment syndrome in the emergency room. It describes common injuries seen such as fractures, dislocations, open wounds, amputations, sprains/strains, and crush injuries. It provides details on evaluating different types of fractures, dislocations (such as shoulder, elbow, hip), and open wounds. Compartment syndrome is discussed in depth, including causes, pathophysiology, diagnosis using five P's and compartment pressure monitoring, and treatment requiring fasciotomy. The document emphasizes history, examination, immobilization, analgesia, and managing the underlying injury in extremity trauma cases.
The document discusses wound dressings and wound healing. It defines a wound as a break in the epithelial integrity of the skin that disrupts normal tissue structure and function. Wound healing involves complex, overlapping phases of hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Proper wound dressing is crucial to maintain moisture balance and prevent infection while the wound heals. A variety of dressing types are described, including hydrocolloids, hydrogels, calcium alginates, foams, and enzymatic debriding agents. Selecting the appropriate dressing depends on factors like a wound's drainage and healing stage.

Quality standards in biomedical research for indian system of medicine a perf...ABDUL LATIF
This document discusses the need for quality standards in research for Indian systems of medicine like Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha. It proposes a plan with four stages for quality standards in ISM drug development and research: 1) Basic scientific exploration of ISM drugs from classical literature; 2) Evaluating drug safety doses in animal studies; 3) Initial human clinical trials for efficacy, side effects and interactions; 4) Post-marketing surveillance is unnecessary for traditional ISM drugs but good clinical practices should be followed. Adopting WHO and SWG quality standards will help strengthen research and development of ISM.
Unani medicine provides treatments and preventative measures for swine flu. These include steam inhalation, maintaining good hygiene, consuming herbal medicines like Arq Ajeeb and Joshina syrup, and applying Kafoori balm to the chest and nose. Patients should see a physician if positive for the virus and may need to be hospitalized at higher centers. Real-time RT-PCR testing can confirm cases, while virus isolation is also diagnostic but may not provide timely results for clinical management.
