Global greenhouse gas emissions in 2010 totaled 48,629 megatons of carbon dioxide equivalent. Fossil fuel combustion accounted for the majority (34.6%) of emissions, with coal (25%), oil (21%), and natural gas (19%) being the largest contributors. Land use change, such as deforestation, accounted for 15% of emissions. The main economic sectors emitting greenhouse gases were energy (35%), industry (29%), agriculture (8.3%), and transportation (15%).
