2. AREA OF LOCATION
• officially designated as Region VI, is an
administrative region in the Philippines
occupying the western section of
the Visayas. It covers 6 provinces,
namely, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras,
Iloilo, and Negros Occidental, as well as 2
highly urbanized cities. The regional
center is the City of Iloilo.
5. PEOPLE
• The region is dominated by the native
speakers of four Visayan languages:
Hiligaynon, Kinaray-a, Aklanon and
Capiznon.
• Ilongos are very hospitable, they always
provide for their guest comfort and ease at
their own expenses. They also very gentle
in their ways that their quarrels do not see
like ones.
6. GASTRONOMY
Iloilo’s La Paz Batchoy
• this noodle soup is made with guinamos
(shrimp paste), pork organs, crushed pork
rind, chicken stock, beef loin, and miki
(round egg noodles). This is best enjoyed
at the La Paz market, at old and well-
known establishments such as Deco’s
and Netong’s.
7. Chicken inasal
• This popular grilled chicken has gained
national fame, but it is still best had at
Bacolod’s Manokan country. The chicken is
marinated in a mixture of calamansi, pepper,
sinamak (local vinegar), and annatto and
grilled over hot coals. The chicken is served
on a banana leaf with a heap of steaming
rice topped with oil drippings from the grill.
8. Pancit Molo
• Another famous noodle soup from Iloilo, this
time from the Molo district. This dish has
intricately wrapped pork and shrimp wonton
dumplings in a broth garnished with
shredded chicken, spring onions, and garlic.
Pancit Molo is served in many restaurants,
but most Ilonggo households have their own
prized Pancit Molo recipe.
11. Maniquin Island Lighthouse in Culasi, Antique
• The oldest lighthouse which was
located in the heart of the Antique
province. The island, also known as
Maningning Island or Hammerhead
Island. The round cylindrical
concrete tower with a gallery on top
is located near the southeastern
point of the island. It was one of the
main attractions in this area.
