Roadmap to Blended Learning (4 Nov 2011)Wesley Fryer
Where are we headed in K-12 education with respect to technology and learning? What are the vehicles ("ships" in this metaphor using the Waldseemüller map) that will take us into this future? What activities should characterize effective blended learning in the future? These are Wesley Fryer's slides for a presentation on these topics for New York educational leaders in November 2011.

Digital Tools for Dynamic and Efficient CurationJulia Smith
Being able to find, select, organise, annotate and share information is a valuable life skill in this world of information over-abundance. Digital tools will pull together quality and relevant information from your Professional Learning Network, and further tools can be utilised to organise and annotate information. To engage your community of users, dynamic, visual, collaborative, interactive and cloud-based tools are required for sharing that content. Benefits, examples and strategies of curation are provided.

41 Quotes to Craft Your Habit Recipe and Live the Life You've Dreamed OfKendra Kinnison
I've always loved quotes. A few timeless words can tell a very powerful story.
For months, I had this vision of telling a story about why habits are so important today - using just quotes. It took me weeks to select the quotes and put them in the right sequence.
Then, my daughter found the perfect photos for each one. We used Flickr Creative Commons licensed art so we could feature the work of other awesome artists too.
I'm so proud, especially because we did it together. And yet, I'm a little terrified too. Sharing these quotes is like exposing my deepest thoughts.
I know many people won't understand why I think this way. But I know a few will, and if that's you, I hope this project speaks right to your soul and inspires you to choose your habits and your life. I believe there’s a unique recipe that will allow you to live a life of freedom and purpose, and I’m here to help you find it.

Global Literacies in a Global Citizenship Classcarolbegg
Multiple Literacies has become a buzzword in language education recently, offering structure and purpose to the sometimes vague aspirations of communicative based courses. Global education shares many of the core values and aims as multiple literacies approaches, with the added dynamic of promoting student inquiry and peace through cultural understanding.
In this 3rd year elective course, Global Citizenship, students explore six global issues: Trade; Aid; Peacekeeping; Arms; Terrorism and Human Rights and Responsibilities, and the interconnectedness of these. Each unit encourages inquiry and highlights the part that cultures play in the causes and solutions to these issues. This paper will outline the course design to illustrate how students come to understand the cultural dynamic at play in global issues; how these are both barriers and tools to solving global problems; and most importantly how all cultures and cultural perspectives are valuable aspects of the human condition.

White Space Creativity - Generate Conference London 2014Denise Jacobs
In visual arts and graphic design, white space is fundamental to allowing a creation to exist, by creating delineation and focus. Similarly, in our lives, creativity often sprouts from the "white space" of time: the moments in our increasingly busy schedules between activities and thoughts that allow the subconscious to better absorb and connect information. Clearly, in order to be more creative, we need to open up this "in-between" space in our lives, but once we've done so, how can we best capitalize upon the brain's natural creative capacities? In this talk, we'll explore several counter-intuitive and potentially subversive methods for leveraging this "white space" to foment innovative thinking creative productivity.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
