understanding of the role / job to be performed and
is passionate about the job and will do it with
initiative, zeal and enthusiasm
3. Know the company & the job …
Find out as much as you can about the field, the
company, and the position for which your are
interviewing. Some good sources are in the
Placement Office, the library, and on the Internet.
Study the website of the company to know more…
Understand the job that you are going to perform –
inquire about the job being offered.
Understand how will you perform well in your role
and how will your background and skills help you in
the job…
4. How will you fit in the company?
Have a strategy in your mind about growth and
development of the company and how will you be
able to contribute to it?
What is the size and location of this organization?
Where does this organization fit in relation to its
competitors?
What is the management philosophy of the
organization?
How well does this organization pay compared to
others?
5. Prepare for the Interview
Anticipate possible questions and write out
responses to organize what you want to say.
Identify your strong points and develop stories from
your past experiences that demonstrate these points.
Include specifics of the event in order to create a
complete picture for the interviewer.

7. Reach well prepared for interview
Dress appropriately.
Conservative business attire is recommended.
Avoid wearing excessive jewelry, make-
up, cologne, or perfume.
Arrive early. 10-15 minutes before the scheduled
time
Carry 5-10 copies of resume and your photograph
Carry testimonials, degrees, achievements
8. Greet each of the interviewer
Say – Good Morning and respectfully nod to each of the
interviewer
Sit only when asked
greet the interviewers with respect. Give a firm handshake if
invited by the interviewer.
Make eye contact.

Don’t encroach on the table of interviewers
Don’t drag the chair unnecessarily
Sit straight, don’t sit in relaxing pose

Find ways to include stories that demonstrate your strong
points.

11. Handling questions…
Be concise. Give direct and clear answers.
Be specific and give good examples. This will help give
your answer credibility.
Highlight your strengths. Keep in mind that every
question an employer asks relates to one central concern:
Why should they hire you?
Help reveal your strongest points that relate to the
position you are seeking.
If you don’t know the answer to a question, be honest.
Admit that you don’t have an answer and remain
confident.
12. Overcome your fear
Don’t stumble
Breathe slowly and deeply
Don’t get nervous
Speak slowly and clearly (you should be clearly
audible to the farthest person in the board)
don’t be afraid to pause for a moment to collect your
thoughts.
