This document discusses different types of natural vegetation classified by climate and geography. It describes tropical evergreen forests, which are dense forests near the equator that receive heavy rainfall year-round. It also outlines tropical deciduous forests, found in parts of India and Central America, where trees shed leaves during the dry season to conserve water. Finally, it lists coniferous forests at high latitudes with softwood evergreen trees like pine and cedar that provide wood for paper, boxes and other products.

Solution
Land Biomes
These are the 8 different land biomes in order from coldest to warmest
Tundra
Tundra is the coldest of all the biomes. Tundra comes from the Finnish word tunturi, meaning
treeless plain. It is noted for its frost-molded landscapes, extremely low temperatures, little
precipitation, poor nutrients, and short growing seasons. Dead organic material functions as a
nutrient pool. The two major nutrients are nitrogen and phosphorus. Nitrogen is created by
biological fixation, and phosphorus is created by precipitation. It is also the driest biome next to
the desert.
Characteristics of tundra include:
Extremely cold climate
Low biotic diversity
Simple vegetation structure
Limitation of drainage
Short season of growth and reproduction
Energy and nutrients in the form of dead organic material
Large population oscillations
Coniferous Forest (also known as Taiga)
The Coniferous Forest is a forest of Conifers (too much to handle, isn\'t it?). A Conifer is a tree
that produces its seeds in cones. The Pine tree is the most common example. Conifer leaves
conserve water with the thick, waxy layer that covers their leaves, also known as needles. The
vegitation in the Coniferous forest is small in size, but large enough to feed the vast herbivore
population. Most of these animals survive the brutal winters by migrating or hibernating.
Average Annual Rainfall- 14-29.5 in.
Average Temperatures in the Summer- 57.2°F
Average Temperatures in the Winter- 14°F
Deciduous Forest (also known as temperate forest)
Deciduous forests can be found in the eastern half of North America, and the middle of Europe.
There are many deciduous forests in Asia. Some of the major areas that they are in are southwest
Russia, Japan, and eastern China. South America has two big areas of deciduous forests in
southern Chile and Middle East coast of Paraguay. There are deciduous forests located in New
Zealand, and southeastern Australia also.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES OF THE SAME
3. THE MAIN FACTORS
With the change in height, the
climate changс and that
changс natural vegetation. The
growth of vegetation depends on
tempрature and moisture. It
also depends on factors like
slope and thicknсs of soil
4. The type and thicknсs of natural vegetation variс from place to place
because of the variation in thсe factors. Natural vegetation is genрally
classified in to three broad categoriс as follows:
FOREST:- Which
grow whрe tempрature
and rainfall are plentiful
to support a tree covр.
Depending upon thсe
factors, dense and open
forсʦ are grown.
Grasslands: Which
grow in the region of
modрate rain
Shrubs: Thorny
shrubs and scrubs grow in
the dry region
5. TROPICAL EVERGREEN
FOREST
Thсe forсʦ are also called tropical rainforсʦ
Thсe thick forсʦ occur in the regions near the
equator and close to the tropics. Thсe regions are hot
and receive heavy rainfall throughout the year. As
thрe is no particular dry season, the treс do not shed
their leavс altogethр. This is the reason they are
called evрgreen. The thick canopiс of the closely
spaced treс do not allow the sunlight to penetrate inside
the forсt even in the day time. Hardwood treс like
rosewood, ebony, mahogany are common hрe.
6. Tropical Deciduous Forests
Tropical deciduous are the monsoon forсʦ found
in the large part of India, northрn Australia and
in central Amрica .Thсe regions expрience
seasonal changс. Treс shed their leavс in the
dry season to consрve watр. The hardwood treс
found in thсe forсʦ are sal, teak, neem and
shisham. Hardwood treс are extremely useful
for making furniture, transport and constructional
matрials. Tigрs, lions, elephanʦ, langoors and
monkeys are the common animals of thсe regions
7. Temperate Evergreen
Forests
The tempрate evрgreen forсʦ are located in the
midlatitudinal coastal region . They are commonly
found along the eastрn margin of the continenʦ,
e.g., In south east USA, South China and in South
East Brazil. They comprise both hard and soft
wood treс like oak, pine, eucalyptus, etc. The
region which has always the tempрature 65
degree F or above is a tropical region. This region
is also refрred to as the tropical zone and the
torrid zone. Whрeas in tempрate region, thрe is
variation in tempрature but not extreme of cold or
hot.
8. Temperate Deciduous
Forests
As we go towards highр latitudс, thрe are more
tempрate deciduous forсʦ . Thсe are found in
the north eastрn part of USA, China, New
Zealand, Chile and also found in the coastal
regions of Wсtрn Europe. They shed their
leavс in the dry season. The common treс are
oak, ash, beech, etc. Deр, foxс, wolvс are the
animals commonly found. Birds like pheasanʦ,
monals are also found hрe.
9. Mediterranean
Vegetation
The wсt and south wсt margins of the continenʦ are diffрent. They
have Meditрranean vegetation . It is mostly found in the areas around
the Meditрranean sea in Europe, Africa and Asia, hence the name.
This kind of vegetation is also found ouʦide the actual Meditрranean
region in California in the USA, south wсt Africa, south wсtрn
,South Amрica and South wсt Australia. Thсe regions Let’s do are
marked for hot dry summрs and mild rainy wintрs. Citrus fruiʦ
such as orangс, figs, olivс and grapс are commonly cultivated hрe
because people have removed the natural vegetation in ordр to
cultivate what they want to. Thрe isn’t much wildlife hрe.
Meditрranean treс adapt themselvс to dry summрs with the help of
their thick barks and wax coated leavс which help them reduce
transpiration. • Meditрranean regions are known as ‘Orchards of the
world’ for their fruit cultivation.
10. Coniferous Forests
In the highр latitudс of Northрn hemisphрe the
spectacular Conifрous forсʦ are found . Thсe are
also called as Taiga. Thсe forсʦ are also seen in
the highр altitudс. Thсe are the treс which Salima
found in the Himalayas in abundance. They are tall,
softwood evрgreen treс. The woods of thсe treс are
vрy useful for making pulp, which is used for
manufacturing papр and newsprint. Match boxс and
packing boxс are also made from softwood. Chir,
pine, cedar are the important variety of treс in thсe
forсʦ. Silvр fox, mink, polar bear are the common
animals found hрe.
12. Tropical grasslands
Thсe occur on eithр side of the
equator and extend till the tropics. This
vegetation grows in the areas of
modрate to low amount of rainfall.
The grass can grow vрy tall, about 3
to 4 metrс in height. Savannah
grasslands of Africa are of this type.
Elephanʦ, zebras, giraffс, deр,
leopards are common in tropical
grasslands
13. Temperate grasslands
Thсe are found in the mid latitudinal
zonс and in the intрior part of the
continenʦ. Usually, grass hрe is
short and nutritious.Wild buffaloс,
bisons, antelopс are common in the
tempрate region.
14. Thorny bushes
Thсe are found in the dry dсрt like
regions.Tropical dсрʦ are located on the
wсtрn margins of the continenʦ. The
vegetation covр is scarce hрe because of
scanty rain and scorching heat
15. Tundra
If you reach the polar region you will find the place
extremely cold. The growth of natural vegetation is
vрy limited hрe. Only mossс, lichens and vрy
small shrubs are found hрe. It grows during the
vрy short summр. This is called Tundra type of
vegetation. This vegetation is found in the polar
areas of Europe, Asia and North Amрica. The
animals have thick fur and thick skin to protect
themselvс from the cold climatic conditions. Seal,
walrusс, musk-oxen, Arctic owl, Polar bear and
snow foxс are some of the animals found hрe
