Who? (Situation Analysis)
GRADE 12A CONSIST OF 24 LEANERS. LEARNERS ARE FROM THE SAME AGE. THE CLASS IS CONDUSIVE, FURNITURED AND HAVE MOST RESOURCES, LACK ICT
RESOURCES, AND IT IS BIG ENOUGH TO ACCOMMODATE ALL OF THEM. THERE IS DIVERSITY AMONGST THEM, SOME LEANERS SPEAK ISIZULU, AFRIKAANS,
NORTHEN SOTHO AND SOME ARE INDIANS. THE LEARNERS ARE COMING FROM DIFFERENT FAMILY BACROUND, SOME OF THEM ARE COMING FROM
DISADVANTAGED, MIDDLE INCOME, AND ADVANTAGED FAMILIES.

At the end of the lesson, leaners should be able to:
1. EXPLAIN THE FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE SITE AND SITUATION OF A SETTLEMENT
2. DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN RURAL AND URBAN SETTLEMENT
3. RECOMMEND WAYS IN WHICH ONE CAN UNDERSTAND SHAPES OF THE SETTLEMENT.
When? (Situation analysis – Time related)
The LESSON WILL COMMENCE ON MONDAY, SECOND PERIOD OF THE DAY, 09H00 MORNING. THE PERIOD IS ONE HOUR LONG, IT IS ENOUGH FOR THE
LESSON THAT I HAVE PREPARED FOR THEM. WE WILL BE COLLABORATING THE WHOLE PERIOD.
Where? (Situation analysis – Location and facilities related)
THE LESSON WILL TAKE PLACE AT PALMRIDGE SECONDARY SCHOOL, LOCATED IN PALMRIDGE. THE LESSON WILL TAKE PLACE IN GRADE 12A. THE CLASS IS
SITUATED IN THE GRADE 12’S COMPLEX, IT IS NEAR THE SCHOOL HALL. THE CLASS IS PAINTED IN BLUE AND WHITE COLOUR OUTSIDE AND THE DOOR IS
FACING THE SCHOOL HALL. THE CLASS INSIDE IS FURNITURED BY DESKS, BULB LIGHTS, CHAIRS, WIFI, AND AIR CONDITINOR.

Concept of settlement
 A settlement is a place where people live.
 Consist of buildings
 Categorized into either rural or urban area.
Factors that influence the site of settlement
Physical factors- water, fertile soil, grazing
Economic factors- minerals

  • 1. Teacher: Mundalamo Avuinet Grade: 12A Date: 15 May 2023 Subject: Geography Topic: STUDY OF THE SETTLEMENTS Who? (Situation Analysis) GRADE 12A CONSIST OF 24 LEANERS. LEARNERS ARE FROM THE SAME AGE. THE CLASS IS CONDUSIVE, FURNITURED AND HAVE MOST RESOURCES, LACK ICT RESOURCES, AND IT IS BIG ENOUGH TO ACCOMMODATE ALL OF THEM. THERE IS DIVERSITY AMONGST THEM, SOME LEANERS SPEAK ISIZULU, AFRIKAANS, NORTHEN SOTHO AND SOME ARE INDIANS. THE LEARNERS ARE COMING FROM DIFFERENT FAMILY BACROUND, SOME OF THEM ARE COMING FROM DISADVANTAGED, MIDDLE INCOME, AND ADVANTAGED FAMILIES.
  • 2. What for? (Lesson Outcomes/ Specific Aims) Use your CAPS document and explain using action verbs – refer to Blooms Taxonomy notes. No more than 3 in each column. At the end of the lesson, leaners should be able to: 1. EXPLAIN THE FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE SITE AND SITUATION OF A SETTLEMENT 2. DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN RURAL AND URBAN SETTLEMENT 3. RECOMMEND WAYS IN WHICH ONE CAN UNDERSTAND SHAPES OF THE SETTLEMENT.
  • 3. When? (Situation analysis – Time related) The LESSON WILL COMMENCE ON MONDAY, SECOND PERIOD OF THE DAY, 09H00 MORNING. THE PERIOD IS ONE HOUR LONG, IT IS ENOUGH FOR THE LESSON THAT I HAVE PREPARED FOR THEM. WE WILL BE COLLABORATING THE WHOLE PERIOD. Where? (Situation analysis – Location and facilities related) THE LESSON WILL TAKE PLACE AT PALMRIDGE SECONDARY SCHOOL, LOCATED IN PALMRIDGE. THE LESSON WILL TAKE PLACE IN GRADE 12A. THE CLASS IS SITUATED IN THE GRADE 12’S COMPLEX, IT IS NEAR THE SCHOOL HALL. THE CLASS IS PAINTED IN BLUE AND WHITE COLOUR OUTSIDE AND THE DOOR IS FACING THE SCHOOL HALL. THE CLASS INSIDE IS FURNITURED BY DESKS, BULB LIGHTS, CHAIRS, WIFI, AND AIR CONDITINOR.

Knowledge Skills Values and attitudes ● List 6 factors of a site. ● Interpret the diagram illustrating the situation of a settlement. ● views on the concept of settlement of where each leaner is coming from. Lesson content and Potential Questions Questions to ask leaners for prior knowledge and engagement:  What do you understand by the term settlement?  What are the reasons for people to choose a settlement?  Collaboratively, explain the difference between rural and urban settlement? Content Concept of settlement  A settlement is a place where people live.  Consist of buildings  Categorized into either rural or urban area. Factors that influence the site of settlement Physical factors- water, fertile soil, grazing Economic factors- minerals
  • 5. How? (Activities, media and methods) This is where you will explain HOW you will teach the content listed above. What activities will you use to explain or demonstrate the content? What media and resources will be used? Which methods would be applicable when teaching this content? The invitation (Attention Focusing) This is where you will introduce the topic and grab your learners’ attention. It will set the tone for the rest of the lesson. You must include a recap if this is a follow-up lesson or determine the learners’ entry situation here before introducing your topic.
