Restorationism (aka Christian Universalism)Frank DeRemer
Presented at Twin Lakes Church, 2015-03-18. Compared to the everlasting/eternal torment view and the annihilation or conditional mortality view. What is God's purpose in creating hell or the the lake of fire.
This is a study of Jesus as our body transformer. He will transform our bodies to be just like His in all His glory. We will finally be like Jesus for all eternity.
Dr. John Oakes gave a public lecture on God and Science/Science and the Bible at the University of Connecticut 10/15/2015. The power point and audio are attached.
This lesson was taught by John Oakes, PhD in Bergen, Norway 9/2/2010. Norway is a mainly atheist or agnostic country where traditional Christian apologetics may not work. The lesson uses Acts as a model for how to do Christian apologetics depending on the culture.
Racial tension is not a new phenomena, it is as old as the human race. For eons of time, man looked at himself in the mirror and decided that he is superior to the person that looks differently than himself.
Dr. John Oakes taught a class on apocalyptic literature, including the Book of Revelation on six consecutive Saturdays beginning September 28 at the Mission Center of Hope in San Diego. The audio of this lesson is now available in the web site store. Go to the front page and click on EFC Store in the upper right hand corner of the page. It will also be made available in MP3 format at www.ipibooks.com.

The Bible and Evolution; Are They Compatible?Ben Curtin
This presentation examines the reasons why Theistic Evolution is not a biblical proposition, and demonstrates three brief reasons why the Theory of Evolution as the origin of all life is not credible.
The Bible and Evolution, Are They Compatible?Bencurtin
Supporters of Evolution as the origin of all life have changed strategies. No longer content to just defend Evolution, they have gone on the offensive, attacking Religion and shaming those who refuse to accept their one-sided rhetoric. I see bible believers and young people who were once open minded inquirers being influenced by this pressure, so I put on this presentation to highlight the fact that trying to mold Evolution and the Bible together as a compromise is not a credible alternative, and that Evolution as a theory of the origin of all species really doesn't have a leg to stand on. In short, Theistic Evolution is not compatible with the Bible, and more importantly, Evolution itself does not pass the test of Scientific, Mathematical, or Archeological rigor in the first place.

Called the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy), also called the Torah by the Jews, contain numerous literary forms:
In Genesis, the story of Creation is a literary catalogue distinguished by classification and division and by incremental repetition.
In Genesis Continued: In the first stage or day of Creation, the narrator recounts that God created light, divided it from darkness, and classified the light as day and the darkness as night.
The narrator follows the same pattern in describing subsequent days of Creation. Accordingly, God separates the earth from the sea, then creates the respective creatures dwelling on land and in the water.
“Creation” – numbers (next lecture)
“In the Garden”- Adam and Eve
“The First Murder” – Cain and Abel
“The Great Flood” – Noah and symbols
“Babel” – Theme
“Abraham: A Promise and a Test”- Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Ishmael, Isaac, Holy Messenger
“Jacob”- (also known as Israel), Isaac, Esau
“Joseph” – Dreams, Joseph, Coat of many colors
“Moses: The Calling” – Moses, Aaron, Burning bush, numbers
“Moses: Challenging Pharaoh” – the Plagues, Passover, Red Sea, Miracles in the Desert
“Samson”- Samson and Delilah
“David” – David, Goliath, Bathsheeba
“Jonah”- Numbers, Symbols,
“Job”- Theme, Theodicy, Comforters
“Daniel”- Daniel, Darius, Dreams, Symbols
Three Major Themes:
Man can be easily tempted toward Sin.
Man must know his place before God and show appropriate deference for authority.
Disobedience is punished!
The story of Adam and Eve in the Garden is Aetiological helping to explain how sin and temptation came into the world.
This is also a charter story that helps to explain marriage.
Finally, the story is instructional in that it teaches human beings subservience to God.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

7. Great Creatures of the Sea
• Gen 1:21 So God created the great creatures

with which the water teems, according to
their kinds….
9. Great Creatures of the Sea. IVP
• Genesis 1:20 In the Babylonian Hymn to
Shamash, the sun god is said to receive praise
and reverence even from the worst groups.
Included in the list are the fearsome monsters of
the sea. The hymn thus suggests that there is a
total submission of all creatures to Shamash, just
as the Genesis creation texts shows all creatures
created by, and therefore submitted to, Yahweh.
The Labbu Myth records the creation of the sea
viper, whose length was sixty leagues.

• "Genesis 1:25 God made the beasts [2421b, chayyah]
of the earth after their kind, and the cattle [0929,
behemah] after their kind, and everything that creeps
on the ground after its kind…."
• So the “great sea monsters” were day 5, the
“beasts of the earth after their kind, and the
cattle” were day 6
23. Tanniym = “dragon”
• Every KJV, OT use (6X’s) of the word translated
as sea monsters in Genesis 1:21, the Strong’s
Hebrew word #8577 (tannin/ tanniym), is

27. Idolatry vs. Made in Image of God.
• “Genesis 1:26-27 Image of God. When God
created people, he put them in charge of all of his
creation. He endowed them with his own image.
In the ancient world an image was believed to
carry the essence of that which it represented. An
idol image of deity, the same terminology as used
here, would be used in the worship of that deity
because it contained the deity’s essence. This
would not suggest that the image could do what
the deity could do, nor that it looked the same as
the deity.
• IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament
28. Idolatry vs. Made in Image of God.
• Rather, the deity’s work was thought to be
accomplished through the idol. In similar ways
the governing work of God was seen to be
accomplished by people. But that is not all there
is to the image of God. Gen 5:1-3 likens the image
of God in Adam to the image of Adam in Seth.
This goes beyond the comment about plants and
animals reproducing after their own kind, though
certainly children share physical characteristics
and basic nature (genetically) with their parents.”
• IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament
30. Idolatry vs. Made in Image of God.
• “What draws the idol imagery and the child
imagery together is the concept that the image
provides the capacity not only to serve in the
place of God (his representative containing his
essence) but also to be and act like him. The tools
he provided so that we may accomplish that task
include conscience, self-awareness and spiritual
discernment. Mesopotamian traditions speak of

• their fathers (*Enuma Elish ) but do not speak of
humans created in the image of God; but the
Egyptian Instructions of Merikare identifies
humankind as the god’s images who came from
his body. In Mesopotamia a significance of the
image can be seen in the practice of kings setting
up images of themselves in places where they
want to establish their authority. Other than that,
it is only other gods who are made in the image
of gods.”
• IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament
32. Creation Accounts From Mesopotamia
• “creation of people in ancient Near Eastern
myths. In creation accounts from Mesopotamia
an entire population of people is created, already
civilized, using a mixture of clay and the blood of
a slain rebel god. This creation comes about as
the result of conflict among the gods, and the
god organizing the cosmos had to overcome the
forces of chaos to bring order to his created
world. The Genesis account portrays God’s
creation not as part of a conflict with opposing
forces but as a serene and controlled process.”
• from IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament, Genesis 1:26-31.
33. Let Us Make, Genesis 1:26
• “Accordingly, in the narrative of this last act of the
Creator's work, when completed, the word
[chayaah] "living thing" is the general term
employed, which comprehends the whole extent
of the animal creation. The manner in which this
narrative is introduced shows the peculiar
importance of the work to be done-the formation
of a creature who was to be God's representative,
invested with authority and rule as visible head
and monarch of the world. In the previous acts of
His creative power
• Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary
34. Let Us Make, Genesis 1:26
• God had put forth the mere fiat of His will, "Let
there be light," "Let the earth bring forth," etc.;
but on this last occasion He said, "Let us make
man." This form of expression, which seems to
indicate deliberation, as well as mutual
consultation, is not to be explained either by the
peculiarity of the idiom referred to on [Elohiym]
Gen 1:1 - for "us" is joined here to a plural verb;
or by the use of the pluralis majestatis, because
this lofty style, in which earthly potentates
commonly speak of themselves, was as yet
unknown.”
• Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary, Bold and underlined emphasis is mine, DLK
35. pluralis majestatis or Plural of Majesty
• This Plural of Majesty did not exist during the
time Scripture was written down. It was
invented much later in human history, as a
response to the plural elohim referring to the
singular, one true God of John 17:3, and
elsewhere. Whether kings embraced this to
make themselves sound lofty, or more royal, I
know not. However, there is not one use of
the Plural of Majesty by any king, Jew or
gentile, anywhere in Scripture.
36. Let Us Make, Genesis 1:26
• “Nor is the difficulty removed by supposing that
God was addressing himself to the angelic hosts,
because the hypothesis that they accompanied
Him as counselors, or that their agency was
employed, is contrary to the whole tenor of
Scripture. Still less admissible is the method of
solution proposed by Tuch, that the words are a
soliloquy, as if, after one consideration and
formation of his purpose, the Creator spoke out
His thoughts! [soliloquy = talking to himself or herself… oblivious to any hearers present]
DLK, http://dictionary.reference.com
• Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary
37. Let Us Make, Genesis 1:26
• The only proper and consistent explanation is,
that this passage, which stands at the very
commencement of revelation, contains an
obscure intimation of the great mystery of the
Godhead, which was clearly made known by the
subsequent and sublime discoveries of the
Gospel.”
• Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary
38. Created in the Image of God
• “Genesis 1:24-31 Day six was Creation's climax
for it included mankind. Though man was the last
creature mentioned in the account, he did not
evolve; he was created.
• Human life was created in (lit., "as," meaning "in
essence as") the image of God (v. 27). This image
was imparted only to humans (2:7). "Image"
(selem)…
• Bible Knowledge Commentary/Old Testament
39. Created in the Image of God
• is used figuratively here, for God does not have a
human form. Being in God's image means that
humans share, though imperfectly and finitely, in
God's nature, that is, in His communicable
attributes (life, personality, truth, wisdom, love,
holiness, justice), and so have the capacity for
spiritual fellowship with Him.”
• Bible Knowledge Commentary/Old Testament
40. Created in the Image of God
• God is an eternal Trinity of three persons; Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit
• Humans have 3 aspects, body, soul, and spirit
• Soul= emotion, intellect, and will (dogs have a soul)
• Our spirit is unique to humans and God
• Our speech is unique to humans and God (angels)
• Our relationship to God is unique to humans
• Our worth to God is unique to humans
• " 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no
sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might
become the righteousness of God in Him." (Jn 3:16)
41. Created in the Image of God
• We are unique in that we have a spirit. Giving us the
ability to reason, love, and commune with God.
• "Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together,"
Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They
will be as white as snow; Though they are red like
