What is it?
?
 Is a strategy for achieving gender equality

 Ensures women & men, girls & boys have equal
access to & control over resources, opportunities &

WHAT IS GENDER MAINSTREAMING?
GENDER MAINSTREAMING
Gender mainstreaming is a strategy for developing
policies, legislation, programs, projects, society
and community’s development plans from gender
equality perspective in order to benefit both
women and men.
 Gender Mainstreaming is a globally accepted strategy
for promoting gender equality.
CONCEPT
 The concept of gender mainstreaming was
first proposed at the 1985 Third World
Conference on Women in Nairobi, Kenya.
The idea has been pushed in the United
nations development community.
The idea was formally featured in 1995
at the World Conference on Women in Beijing.
ELECTION SYSTEM IN PAKISTAN
PERCENTAGE OF WOMEN IN PAKISTAN
 Male female ratio or percentage of women as
compared to men in Pakistan is 51:49 .
 It means that women are 51% of the total population
of the country while men are 49%.
IMPORTANCE OF GENDER EQUALITY
 Everyone has human rights.
 If half the population has restricted or limited access to
relevant learning opportunities, a community’s social and
economic development will be limited.
 Necessary for sustainable human development (gender
equality linked with poverty reduction).
 Women /Men are both drivers of social and economic
development.
ECP SUPPORT MAINSTREAMING
 Election Commission (ECP) of Pakistan support
gender mainstreaming and greater political
participation of women.
 ECP trying to increase women participation in
electoral process.

WOMEN & ELECTION
Women do face serious social, cultural and logistical
problems restricting their full and active participation in
the democratic process of Elections.
The Government and civil society must have to work
for the promotion of greater participation of women in
electoral processes .

ECP have to use the following to involve the women in
voting system:
 Social Media
 Television
 District Voter Committee
