The Instituteโs Unleashing Innovation in Healthcare program is designed to identify and expose innovative technologies and processes to solving many of the complex challenges facing the U.S. healthcare system. This unique 7 minute presentation gives health IT startups the chance to showcase ground-breaking solutions and approaches to advance the effective use of healthcare technology. Areas of emphasis include solutions and processes that can reduce cost, improve quality and demonstrate the efficacy of healthcare technology with a specific focus on Triple Aim drivers.
Health sciences libraries are transitioning to providing digital content that is available online 24/7 to patrons accustomed to digital resources. This transition presents challenges around licensing digital content, preserving it, and maintaining legacy services, as well as technology costs. However, it also provides opportunities to collaborate more closely with stakeholders and rethink the role of the library. As libraries adapt to patrons' high expectations around technology and customization, they can transform library spaces and services while developing technology expertise. To thrive in this environment of constant change and accountability, libraries must demonstrate their value as partners in areas like teaching, research, patient care, and community outreach.
Elizabeth Fisher: Tracking the quality of careQualityWatch
ย
This document discusses developing a set of quality of care indicators to track changes in healthcare. Over 1,800 potential indicators across six domains and five care sectors were initially reviewed from 19 sources. About 1,300 indicators were initially selected and mapped, though a large number were deemed unsuitable. The distribution of indicators was uneven, with some areas well covered and others poorly covered. There was also a lack of consensus and historical data for some indicators. The authors intend to further refine the indicator set and gather feedback on their choices through their QualityWatch website and other methods.

- An evaluation found benefits like ease of access and transparency, but also limitations like not all outlines being available.
- Next steps include uploading all 2010 outlines, exploring previous years, refining interfaces, and possibly storing assessment activities.

The document discusses balancing environmental protection and economic growth. It provides background on the author and outlines key environmental issues like pollution, climate change, and resource depletion. Data shows emerging Southeast Asian countries experience high GDP growth but rank low on environmental performance. Both environment and economy are important, and policies should ensure land, air and water quality while not hindering growth. Reforms in areas like emissions standards, alternative energy, and natural resource management can help balance these factors.

Sales is a difficult world to be in because buyers aren't putting up with salespeople anymore. Instead of helping and building relationships, sales reps are still focused on closing prospects - even when they aren't ready to buy! So buyers ignore them. While buyers have evolved and become more sophisticated, sales reps and training programs have been slow to adapt to that change.

This document discusses evolving a direct primary care practice as it grows. It outlines four stages of practice growth: struggling to break even with a small patient panel, making a reasonable salary but not at full panel capacity, being within 100 patients of the panel goal, and all providers having full panels and wanting to expand. When a panel is nearly full, it recommends hiring a second physician as an employee or partner. When all panels are full, it presents options for expansion such as self-funding a new location, forming a regional network of independent practices, or taking external investment which could reduce ownership equity. It provides resources for learning more about direct primary care models.

This document provides an overview of wound healing, its functions, stages, mechanisms, factors affecting it, and complications.
A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the bodyโs response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.
2. The Problem
โข Healthcare providers (Doctors, Nurses, Physical Therapists,
Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists) all
require continuing professional development (CPD) to stay
relevant
โข There are few good systems beyond policy (you must do it) to
engage these people in CPD
โข In most disciplines, it is hard to discriminate the good from not-
so-good CPD options
โข Without good CPD, patient care suffers
6. The Mechanics
โข Different CPD will be worth different XP
โข Read a scientific article and post a synopsis: 10 pts
โข Participate in a one-hour webinar: 15 pts
โข Participate in a 2-day workshop: 100 pts
โข Badges will be accrued through different activities
โข Over 200 badges to collect, including โexplorerโ (for those who
participate in CPD from different fields) and โdisseminatorโ (for
those who post 5 article synopses)
โข Levels can be gained through XP: Novice, problem
solver, expert, master and visionary (the final level
reserved for those who teach their own CPD)
7. Additional Mechanics
โข A Gifting mechanic for leaving reviews
โข Leave a fair review of a course or workshop (โfairnessโ vetted
through a designated person) and receive a 10% discount
code for another course or workshop offered through the site
that you must gift to another โplayerโ (another clinician)
โข A Social Connection mechanic for finding like-
minded users and those of similar experience
โข A Recommendation algorithm based on prior
courses, the userโs profile (what they want/need), and
reviews of others like them
8. A Special Mechanic
โข Since good CPD should itself lead to clinical behavior
change that improves patient outcomes:
โข A mechanism for (anonymously) tracking overall clinical
outcomes and clinical behaviors through another existing web
platform (e.g. โFocus on Therapeutic Outcomesโ at
fotoinc.com)
โข Highlight how behaviors and or outcomes have quantitatively
changed since participating in CPD
โข Receive a rare platinum badge (virtual and physical)
9. Advantages
โข Peer-based reviews of CPD courses and workshops
โข Rewards even simple CPD (reading articles,
discussions with colleagues)
โข Career profile / trajectory yields specific CPD
recommendations
โข Links in with existing CPD providers (e.g.
Medbridge.com)
โข A separate portal for providers of CPD to help them
develop their teaching skills and course content
