What is Game Design?
Let’s try Google again

The board (which can be a drawing on a paper or other
place) consists of a square that is crossed by two
vertical and two horizontal lines, so in total there are
three small squares left in the top line, another 3 in the
center line and 3 more in the bottom line.
Each player takes turns drawing a cross or a circle in a
square (or placing tokens of different shapes or colors)
The winner is the one who manages to place three
equal pieces in a row, either vertically, horizontally or
diagonally.
What is Game?
What makes a game game?
- Games are abstractions
- Games are puzzles
- Game is learning in disguise
- Fun is the emotional response for learning
Magic Circle
- Rules
- Interactions
- Feedback
- Goals
- (Challenge / Conflict)
- (Story / Context)

What is Fun?
- Fun is the emotional response for learning
- No fun if we understand everything and has
nothing to learn
- No fun if we win brainless-ly (even if we keep on
winning)
Is this fun?
- Games are formal system
- But the more limited or rigid the rules is, faster the
brain would learn every pattern
- i.e. Boring
Structured Unstructured
Why Game?
- Immersion
- Feedback loop
- Practice makes learning faster
