- Let’s get an overview of Opposing Viewpoints. Let’s take a look at the Opposing viewpoints main page, the eight issues areas of opposing viewpoints, and an alphabetical listing of issues,
- The main portal page links to issues, news and video The navigation buttons are at the top which will take you to issues as well as help resources
- Opposing Viewpoints is organized around 8 issues areas. These include business, health, debate topics, society, energy /environmentalism, law science ware ------ each issue is a heading followed by a few specific issues
- You canreach an alphabetical listing of issues through Browse Issues at the top. Click the Browse Issues button and this will take you to a listing of all issues
- We take a look at Topic Overviews and sources in Gale. Let’s look at the layout of the topic overview pages, and source types in opposing viewpoints
- What we’ll do is start out by choosing an issue or one of the associated issues. I am going to choose energy and environmentalism for this example Clicking on View all will then take me to a complete list of all issues in this category
- At the top you see a drop-down menu with the category, the category title. I can see all issues organized under this topic category. By looking at the issues, I decide I want to take a look at global warming.
- This brings me to a Topic Overview page. The topic overview page is also laid out in a browsable formt. It gives you a topic overview, we see at the top under the topic. Sources are underneath on the left. You will notice source links to the right in a box. Let’s look a bit at what types of sources Gale Opposing viewpoints offers
- See the list to the right. Here there are several different types of source listed for this topic.

- We will take a look at viewpoints more in depth and how this is unique to gale opposing viewpoints
- What is a viewpoint essay? Viewpoints essays are written or compiled by staff at Gale. Sometimes they are reprints. They provide opposing viewpoints on controversial topics. Two types of viewpoints essays Featured Viewpoints are distinguished from viewpoints in that they are specifically chosen by the editors as representative sources for this topic.
- Let’s look at what are called featured viewpoints. Viewpoints are at the top of the source links. Here, we’ll choose one of the featured viewpoints. By clicking on this, this will take me into the specific viewpoints
- The Featured Viewpoint page. We see the title at the top. The author’s name is underneath. The authors are experts or authorities on the topic discussed. On the right there is a table of contents that will take you through different parts of the document.
- So we can save this source through downloading, and also emailing and printing, as well see in the links under Tools. I will show you how to email a source. This is a quick way to save articles and sources you want to use for your paper.
- I click on email. When this is clicked a form appears where you will in your email address.
- Fill in email in both sender and To fields
- You will see a prompt that your email was successfully sent
