Mercy for Earth seeks to increase public awareness, educate and mobilize the community by understanding environmental issues through research, the media and educational programs.
Environmental Education is facing new challenges. Despite significant achievements, from institutional agencies and others, it must be strengthened and project its expansion, thereby eliminating the slow bureaucratic aspects, creating new strategies of action, further opening of the social agencies and pursuing broader international commitments. Deepening in Environmental Education is the surest path to planetary transformation and survival of the human race.
Opportunities for disaster resilience learning in the Australian curriculumNeil Dufty
Schools are an important avenue for youth to learn about disaster resilience. A critical success factor for the uptake of disaster resilience learning in schools is the ability to embed learning activities in school programs that are linked to relevant curriculums. With the introduction of the Australian Curriculum, it is timely to identify new opportunities for student disaster resilience learning and related curriculum development by emergency services organisations. Using a technique called ‘curriculum mapping’, a research project has identified disaster resilience learning opportunities and gaps across the Australian Curriculum.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
1. Disaster
Preparedness
MonthPhilippines are considered as one of the most active
countries around the globe in terms of geologic activities.
Due to its position on the globe, Philippines is highly
vulnerable to sudden natural disasters such as earthquakes
and volcanic eruptions. The Philippines had also its fair
share in history of most destructive earthquakes and
volcanic eruptions for the last years such as the eruption
of Mt. Mayon last 2017 and the earthquake that hit Cebu
with a 7.2 magnitude. These natural disasters cost us
millions due to destroyed infrastructures and agricultural
fields and it also gets us a very priceless possession from
us, life. These kinds of disasters are inevitable. What we
must do is to be knowledgeable of the things to do in these
kinds of situation in order to minimize the loss and
eventually save our lives.
As part of their lesson in science, the students watched a film
entitled “San Andreas” which gives the audience a view of what could happen
if the San Andreas Fault in California moves. The movie helps the students
to see the situation that might happen during earthquake or tsunami which is
very hard to visualize from just a simple classroom discussion. They will also
feel they are one of the main characters in the movie and they will think of
ways on how to survive such catastrophic event. Once they occurred the
same event in real life that occurs in the movie, they now had an idea on
what should be done and what shouldn’t.
2. After learning the things they needed to
do as an earthquake occur, they are tasked then
to present a short skit which would show the
different precautionary measures they must do in
different situations like for example riding car
when an earthquake occurs. The class was divided
into three groups. This activity is also part of
their science subject. Each group presented their
task diligently.
The students were also exposed to an earthquake and fire drill. The drill started as the school
bell rings which signal that a simulated earthquake or fire occurs which hits the school. The students
first did the duck, cover, and hold strategy which is very essential to do during an earthquake. They
hide under a hard table or desk to prevent themselves from falling debris or objects that might hit
their head. After securing that the earthquake is done, each student exits the room calmly one by
one. All the students proceed at the open field located in front of the school. Once the students
were in the field, the class adviser did a head count in their respective advisory class to check if
there is any student left inside. The earthquake and fire drill is a good exercise for the students so
that once a real disaster occurred, they will know what they must do in order to save themselves and
even save other people from eminent danger.
3. One devastating characteristic of natural
disasters is that they always come unannounced.
No one can tell specifically when those disasters
will hit our place. One of the best ways to do
about this is to be always prepared and one way
to show preparedness is by preparing their own
emergency kit and first aid kit. Emergency and
first aid kit are a must have not just for every
home but also for every room inside the classroom
since ailments and injuries choose no place for
occurrence. It can happen anytime and anywhere.
When we have an emergency kit and first aid kit
within easy access of wherever you are you will
ensure the safety of everyone inside the
classroom. Each student from grade 10 was
assigned to bring one material that they think
would help them once a disaster occurs. Bonel
Elias Castillo, class vice president, was assigned to
take the lead in discussing the benefit of having
an emergency kit to his classmate. He also
explained how each material inside the emergency
kit can help them. After the short discussion, the
students prepare their emergency kit. The
emergency kit of grade 10 includes the following:
Sterile gauze pads in different sizes
Adhesive tape
Splint
Elastic bandage
Antiseptic wipes
Soap
Antibiotic ointment
Hydrogen peroxide
Different medicines
Scissors
Safety pins
Band aids
Ethyl alcohol
Thermometer
Flashlight with batteries
Whistle
