Understanding a Constructivist
Prior to beginning this assignment, please review all the required readings, videos, and any relevant Instructor Guidance. It is suggested that you review the recommended resources for this week as a number of them may assist you in creating this written assignment with links to applicable articles.
Please note that for many of you, this might be the first time to write a paper about someone you have no current information about. Thus, it is very important that you know how to synthesize information so that it is your work, and not accidentally someone else’s. One suggestion as you begin to read about one of the researchers is to just jot down notes about them as you read. Be careful not to copy paste information into a document with intentions of re-writing it. Sometimes areas get forgotten and when your writing matches other sources, it can negatively affect not only your grade, but also your entire academic journey, so please heed this advice and ask for assistance from your instructor if you need it. Thus, we have included a link to a guide that could be very assistive in your success.
Over the past weeks, you have been introduced to Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism in relationship to learning psychology. To further expand your knowledge and understanding of Constructivism and its theoretical components/principles, in this paper you will research and write about one of the prominent constructivists listed below:
John Dewey (1859–1952)
To successfully accomplish this assignment:
First, create the following headings and subheadings in your paper to indicate the organization of your information. (Note: The bullets will not be included in your paper and are included here only for organizational purposes.)
Introduction-
The introduction is based on the principle of introducing the topic of the paper. A good introduction explains what you will be addressing. In this paper it will specifically, in a broad way, clarify each area (below) that you will be discussing. Often, writer’s write this last to make sure nothing is forgotten. -I fC") WRITING January 2008
Most writing you have to do for school is essay
writing. But what is an essay? It's typically a short
piece of writing in wMch you try to set fort h what
you think and have learned about a particular
topic. It's an attempt to communicate your
thoughts. That makes sense because the word
essay coiues from Hie French vei b essayer, which
means "to try."
There are many types of essays. Among them
are persuasive, personal, narrative, and compaie-
and-contj-ast. Different types of essays refer to the
different purposes a writer has. For instance, in a
persuasive essay, the writer takes a position on a
t h * V topic and tries to persuade the reader to think
jygjjj tiiat way. Personal essays, on the otlier hand,
cent show what the writer has directly
observed or experienced.

There is no one correct, way to write an essay.
However, there are better and worse ways. The
following eight steps are guidelines for writing
academic essays. They are not hard-and-fast rules.
Read them. Study them. 7>7y them. Then, as you
become more experienced, follow them when
I hey are useful to you.
Research your topic.
Most writers research their topics before begin-
ning to write. That helps writers develop some
expertise, and their opinions hold greater weight
with readers.
Perhaps you are asked to take a position on the
following topic question: "Does playing video
games teach kids valuable skills, or are video
giuues mainly a waste of time?"
Before taking a position, you need to research
the topic. The more authoritative your sources
are, the better your essay is likely to be. Examples
of sources are books, magazine articles, newspa-
per articles, interview transcripts, and Web sites.
Conducting research takes time and patience.
Start by hsting questions you'd Uke answers to,
such as these, for example:
• Has anyone studied the benefits of playing
video games? What were the results?
• Can playing video games be good for the
brain? In ivhat ways?
• Can playing video games be harmfid? Can
ga7ning be addictive? Can playing violent
video games lead to violent behavior in real
life? Can gaming rot the brain?
If you have a hard time coming up with
research questions, you might have chosen a
lopic that doesn't interest you. When choosing a
topic, let your natural curiosity work for
you! It will make the whole

When researching, keep track of every relevant
source you find. Bookmark or print Web pages.
Photocopy magazine and newspaper articles, or
record direct quotations on a not**pad. You might
want to use the quotations in your essay.

Once you have gathered relevant source, analyze
the claims each onp makes. A cla.
Writing Assignment Illustration Essay You are required to s.docxbillylewis37150
Writing Assignment: Illustration Essay
You are required to submit the FINAL copy of this assignment, but you may first submit an optional
DRAFT. This will allow you to receive qualitative feedback that can inform your revision. You should
always avoid focusing solely on the grader’s DRAFT feedback; use the feedback as a supplement to the
course lessons and your own revision ideas. Always expect to revise beyond what the DRAFT grader
specifically notes.
In short, an illustration essay will use clear, interesting examples to show, explain, and
support a thesis statement (remember, your thesis is your main argument, or the main
point you’re trying to make). One key to an effective illustration essay is to use enough
details and specific examples to make your point effectively. In other words, descriptive
writing is key.
You have several options for this assignment, so you will need to choose one:
Illustrate the ideal work environment. If everything was perfect at work, what would
it be like? Describe everything in this environment—perhaps from the dispositions of
your coworkers and supervisors to what clothes you wear to work.
Illustrate what it means to be a “true friend.” What does being a “true friend” mean
to you? What “true friends” have you had, and how do their actions coincide with
being your definition of a “true friend?”
Illustrate how your favorite team or player received their current standing or
ranking. How did the team or player do in the most recent season? What qualities did
this team or player demonstrate to earn this ranking?
Look at your favorite poem or short story, and use illustration to explain what
makes it your favorite. Do you enjoy the author’s language? Do you enjoy the
storyline? What else do you enjoy that makes it your favorite?
Illustrate the purpose of props on the set of your favorite media production. What
props are there? Why are they important?
Illustrate how to create your favorite dish. What steps are required to create this
dish? Be sure that you take your audience through this process step by step!
Illustrate how to play your favorite game. What steps and/or actions are necessary
to play this game? Take your readers through the motions, step by step.
The questions above are designed to help you begin brainstorming ideas; however, you are
free to develop your own brainstorming questions and use them to develop your essay.
Since the purpose of this essay is to illustrate, you should have enough specific details and
examples for your essay to be considered an illustration essay.
Many illustrations may come from your personal experiences. However, even personal
experiences should be supported by research in college essays. Thus, you must cite at least
one credible1 source to earn maximum credit for this essay. This resource from the course

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

WHY SHOULD I ELABORATE?
It helps the reader better understand the ideas or concepts in a story or essay.
It makes your essay more interesting and relatable.
Elaboration is the act of adding more information to existing
information/evidence or details.
It is more than just adding a quote or a personal story.
This is the chance to add your voice into your writing.
30. WAYS TO
ELABORATE
•ANECDOTES: USE A SHORT NARRATIVE (STORY)
INSERTED INTO AN ESSAY THAT DEVELOPS AN
IDEA OR ARGUMENT. (I REMEMBER A TIME
WHEN. . . ONCE WHEN I WAS IN THIRD GRADE . .
., ETC.)
•SCENARIO: CREATE A BELIEVABLE AND
APPROPRIATE HYPOTHETICAL (PRETEND)
SITUATION OR EVENT (LET'S SAY, FOR EXAMPLE,
THAT . . .)
31. •EXAMPLES: PROVIDE SPECIFIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE
IDEA. (FOR EXAMPLE. . . FOR INSTANCE . . . SUCH AS . .)
•DEFINITIONS: RESTATE YOUR IDEA IN ANOTHER WAY SO
THAT YOU ARE SURE IT IS UNDERSTOOD. (WHAT I MEAN BY
THAT IS . . . __________________ MEANS . . . ETC.)
32. • STATISTICS OR FACTS: USE BELIEVABLE (BUT FICTIONAL --
CREATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF THE WRITING) NUMBERS (DATA)
AND INFORMATION TO HELP SUPPORT YOUR IDEA OR ARGUMENT.
(NINETY-EIGHT PERCENT OF THE STUDENTS IN THE
NEIGHBORHOOD BELIEVE . . . THREE OUT OF FOUR PEOPLE
POLLED FEEL . . . ACCORDING TO THE STATISTICS AVAILABLE AT
THE TOWN'S WATER DEPARTMENT . . . ETC.)
33. • QUOTATIONS: BELIEVABLE WORDS THAT SOMEONE SAYS THAT HELP TO
SUPPORT THE IDEA OR ARGUMENT. THESE CAN BE FICTITIOUS (BUT
BELIEVABLE) IN A PERSUASIVE ESSAY, DIRECT QUOTES TAKEN FROM THE
READING PROVIDED, PARAPHRASED (BUT IT NEEDS TO BE CLEAR IT IS
PARAPHRASED) OR EXACT QUOTES FROM A FAMOUS PERSON.
(ACCORDING THE JOE JONES, MAYOR OF TOWNSVILLE, . . . JOHN F.
KENNEDY ONCE SAID . . . THIS REMINDS ME OF A QUOTE I ONCE
HEARD THAT WENT SOMETHING LIKE THIS, ". . . , ETC.)
34. Descriptions: Create vivid images for your readers remembering to use your five
senses, plus your sixth sense - personal feelings. Word choice and descriptive
language is very important here. Use vivid verbs, exact nouns, interesting
adjectives and adverbs. (Looks like. . . Sounds just like . . . Smells similar to . .
. Feels just the same as . . . Tastes just like . . ., etc.) . Use the appropriate words
when writing. For example, if talking about a story, use the words plot, theme,
characterization, setting, protagonist, antagonist, etc.
Use Humor: Remember your audience and keep it appropriate, but a strong writer
can effectively use humor.
35. Make connections: Text to text; text to self; text to world; text to movie; text to television show; text
to famous quotation; etc., but the explanation of the connection must be clear and say WHY.
Use Figurative Language:
similes, metaphors, personification, analogy
effective statements of irony
alliteration
repetition of key ideas, words, or phrases
hyperbole
37. Sample Writing Prompt:
In August of 2018, Park View High School announced that they would have to cancel its
varsity football season. The reason for this: not enough kids wanted to play. Since
football has been one of the most popular sports in this town, people were shocked. Why
did this happen? Is football too dangerous?
Write an essay in which you argue whether or not playing football is too risky and should
be banned.
38. Student Sample:
Paragraph 1 (Introduction):
The crashing of helmets and football pads are a staple every Friday night in just
about every town in America. Crowds and cheerleaders scream for their favorite
team to score a touchdown or block the other team from earning more points, but
the stadium will grow deathly quiet when a player goes down due to an injury.
Football can be dangerous, but there are risks in everything we do. Football should
not be banned.
39. Paragraph 2 (body)
Individuals have to train to be on a football team. If a player doesn’t train, he won’t be very
good and probably won’t get to play much or even make the team. Training makes you
healthy. Due to the variety of training techniques during football practice, Dr. Behr states
“…it’s really a good overall health benefit to someone in any age group.” (paragraph 3)
40. Paragraph 3 (body)
Concentration is a skill that many people lack. Football teaches players to concentrate. If
you don’t concentrate when you are on the field, you will get hurt. Dr. Behr tells us that, “It
forces you to focus on what you’re doing. Otherwise, you can be a casualty. So, you can’t
afford to let down your guard.” ( paragraph 5)
41. Paragraph 4 (body)
Football is obviously a team sport. When you are on a team, you learn skills that will
help you throughout your life. According to article 1, “You learn time management, you
learn discipline, you learn how to deal with loses and disappointments.”
43. Sample Writing Prompt:
Your task:
The United States is planning on creating a colony on the moon. This lunar colony
requires a group of people with the skills to handle many different scientific, technical, and
social skills. NASA (the US space agency) feels pretty confident about the technology
and science skills, and they have selected a very impressive group of candidates.
However, the government has asked you to serve on a special panel to decide the right
combination citizens.
44. Student Sample:
Paragraph 1 (Introduction):
A good citizen makes a good country. The United States is establishing a new colony
on the moon. The government wants help in deciding what kinds of citizens should
make up the settlers who are being asked to go. There are three types to choose from –
the personally responsible citizen, the participatory citizen, and the justice-oriented
citizen. All three types of citizen are needed.
45. Paragraph 2 (Body):
The first type of citizen needed to make the moon colony a success is the personally
responsible citizen. This type of citizen, according to the Department of Education, is
“considerate to others”. This is the best type of citizen to have.
46. Paragraph 3 (Body):
Another type that is very important to a successful colony is the participatory citizen. In
paragraph 4, the Department of Education recommends that “a participatory citizen be
organized and willing to support his or her community”.
47. Paragraph 4 (Body):
The justice-oriented type of citizen is the last type of citizen that will make the moon colony a
success. These people are the voice of those needing help and are looking for ways to make
things better.
49. YOUR TURN
• CREATE AN EXAMPLE OF EACH OF THE ELABORATIVE TECHNIQUES
DISCUSSED USING THE ESSAY THAT YOU WROTE.
• CHOOSE AT LEAST TWO ELABORATION TECHNIQUES LEARNED IN THIS LESSON
AND ADD THEM TO YOUR ESSAY.
