be used to mold one's success or bring about one's failure. If one can overcome challenges that they
face they grow in a unique type of way, for every individual perceives each situation in a distinct
fashion. That unique type of growth is what establishes a person's character and perception of the
world. However if one cannot overcome their obstacles, then they cut of their means for growth and

This concept applies to life as well. When one overcomes their challenges, the knowledge gained
from that experience merely provides them with the necessary tools to face a more difficult
situation. This continues on until they are finally able to cope with difficulties that they initially
never would have been able to. Unfortunately the man accepts the stool that the doorkeeper offers
him where "he sits for days and years." The man never gains any sort of stature, for he looses out on

The keep was the heart and soul of a castle. It included a great hall, a chapel as well as other
important aspects of castle life. As well as walls as thick as eight to feet thick, castles featured many
additions and structures used for defense. If the watchman in the watchtower spotted enemies, the
drawbridge would be retracted back across the moat that surrounded the castle. Valuable items
inside the manor would be brought inside the castle such as livestock and food. If there were crops
in the field that hadn't been harvested they were burned along with serf's wooden homes. This was to

Brattices (small wooden sheds) were also attached to wall by small jutting stones; these could be
built quickly and were effective for defence. The holds for the brattices can still be seen today. The
walls were filled with rubble beneath the initial layer to absorb the impact from cannon fire and stop
the wall from crumbling. Crenulations on the top of the curtain walls had wooden flaps to allow

A.D 450 saw the creation of castles. Romans were "replaced" by Anglo Saxon foes, and these did
leave behind a system of castles however these were for Motte and Bailey castles built in the reign
of Edward the confessor.
The Norman invasion of 1066 was one of the causes for castles to become an important part of
defence. After king Harold's defeat by William the conqueror, William was concerned about how he
would control the country with only a limited number of troops facing a hostile environment. He did
not have enough troops to station them everywhere, so he used a very useful tactic that had worked

The pathways and ladders that allowed reach to important areas of the castle have been removed or
destroyed; and the enemy are at a disadvantage because they are facing attack from a raised level.
As time progressed, the situation in England changed. The Normans were now in control of England
and there was little resistance from hostile sources, therefore a concentration on the development of
castles occurred.
Less time was needed for castles to be constructed quickly and therefore time could be used to
search for better materials for building. This meant that stone could be used instead of wood, which
was used previously. By 1100, the earth that had held Motte and bailey castles had now settles, and
was capable of sustaining much larger weights. With the change to stone castles, fire was not a
concern as it was when Motte and baileys were in use.
Square keeps were used when the development of stone castles were quite young. They were often
built in the most important places, to show how powerful the Normans were. Square keeps were
good because of the immense thickness of the walls. The walls in square keeps were often up to 5
metres thick, and 30 metres high. This added to the strength of the castle because the walls could
easily withstand attacks from siege weapons such as magonels and trebuchets.

called the manor house, the lord's demesne, cruck houses for the peasants, barns, a mill, orchards,

went stopping the rebellion anyway possible. Ralph de Guader fled to his home castle in Doc,

I frantically piled sand on top of sand. I was trying to build my dream sandcastle independently,
without anyone's help. The moist, dark sand kept falling apart though, I gave up. With the bow in

life outside the walls of the Castle of Estelliana. Lisandre assumes an attitude of superiority towards
those of the heathen, believing them to be inferior to those of her kindred. Throughout the
preliminary stages of the novel, Lisandre constantly reasserts her status. Shortly after taking refuse
at Pedrin and Durrik's campsite, accompanied by her mistress Briony, Lisandre proceeds to degrade
Pedrin using the terms "sirrah", "goatboy" and "imbecilic oaf", as well as describing him as
'peasantry'. Following this incident, Lisandre attempts to intimidate Pedrin through promising to
have him whipped, before being promptly reminded by Briony that there is nobody to conduct the
punishment. When inquired by Durrik regarding the purpose of her journey and she reveals her
intentions of seeking the Erlrune, she states she is not afraid, for she is "one of the Ziv." This
reinforces the impression the reader has of Lisandre's knowledge regarding life outside the castle

What happened to Bikini Atoll when the United States had a nuclear weapons test series? Operation
Crossroads was a nuclear test that was held during the summer of 1946 at Bikini Atoll intended to
study the effect of nuclear weapon. There were a total of three tests, Able, Baker, and Charlie. The
first test was codenamed Able. The 23 kiloton bomb was dropped from the B–29 Superfortress
Dave's Dream at July 1, 1946. The bomb detonated at an altitude of 520 feet and 1,500 to 2,000 off
from the target ships. The second test was codenamed Baker. The 23 kiloton bomb was put 90 feet
underwater. The bomb caused many unusual phenomena that a conference was held two months
later to define new terms for use in descriptions and analysis. There was originally a third test
codenamed "Charlie", but it was canceled due to the inability of the United States to remove the

Empathy is being able to understand and share another person's feelings or emotions. It allows a
team to develop trust and understand others. Leaders who express empathy towards their team
shows that they truly care about the people within their team.
An example of empathy within leadership would be when both the committee chair and members
are understanding and sharing each other's feelings. For example, if a committee chair is aware that
one of his/her member is hosting a big class event that week, the chair would not be putting as much
stress on that member for the week. This is both for the well–being of the member and the
committee in general. Likewise, the committee members would step up in times where the chair is
facing difficulties.
In the book, Sinek shows an example of empathy within leadership through Johny Bravo and his
team's mission. Although he cannot see, Bravo was able to comprehend the anxiety of his team on
the ground. He related to the feelings of his men below using a scene from a movie. By
understanding and relating to the feelings of those below him, Bravo expressed great empathy
towards his team and was able to successfully help his men stay alive.

Who is good and who is Evil? Many of us go through life thinking that whatever we do must be
what is good, never questioning authority and blindly following a government that is thought to be
incapable of doing evil. After World War II, many Americans felt a sense of nationalism. They were
proud of the fact that their military destroyed Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan. However this
euphoric patriotism can often blind the holder. In August of 1945, the United States Military
dropped two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There were noble reasons for dropping the
bombs, but surely destroying two entire cities questions the integrity of the United States. So again I
ask, who is good and who is evil? After the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the United States
was eager to learn more about the impacts of nuclear devices on the environment. The United States
set up several nuclear bomb tests on the Marshall Islands in which they properly planned for.
However one test, code named Operation Castle, went horribly wrong. Scientists involved in the test
claim they expected an explosive yield of four to six megatons, but instead a yield of fifteen
resulted. For reference, this is one thousand times greater than the yields of both the Hiroshima and
the Nagasaki nuclear bombs (Huard). Many people believe this was merely a lapse in judgement,
