Francesca Caccini (1587-1641) was an Italian composer, singer, poet and teacher who was the first woman to compose an opera. She wrote La liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola d'Alcina in 1625, considered the first opera composed by a female. Caccini came from a musically talented family in Florence and was highly skilled in singing and playing multiple instruments. She paved the way for women in music during the Baroque era and taught singing and composition to young girls.
