Father D'Souza was an Indian Jesuit priest born in 1897 who played important roles in education, diplomacy, and the drafting of India's constitution. He taught at St. Joseph's College in Tamil Nadu and later became rector of Loyola College in Chennai. D'Souza was elected to represent the Madras legislative assembly at the constituent assembly from 1946 to 1950, where he advocated for minority rights. As a trusted adviser to Prime Minister Nehru, D'Souza also aided in delicate diplomatic negotiations regarding relations with the Vatican and the transfer of French colonies to India. Later in life, he founded the Indian Social Institute and wrote extensively before passing away in 1977.
