Target Audience: Young males (17-30 years old)
Appeal to audience: The movie is horror that is set in an asylum and expletives
and weapons are used; which appeals more to the males in this age.
Release Date: Sanitarium premiered on March 1, 2013 at the Miami Festival and
was released to theaters on October 18. It was released to DVD on December
31, 2013.
Sanitarium was released in early March so that it could be screened at the
Miami Film Festival and gain attention from the audience watching the film.
Promotion: The movie did not receive much promotion because of the small
budget that it had. Only one trailer was released through YouTube before
showcasing at the festival.
Format: 2-D filmed digitally.
3. Black Swan
Target Audience: Young women (18-30 years old)
Appeal to Audience: The main characters in this movie are all female and
it focuses on ballet.
Release Date: Black Swan premiered at the Venice International Film
Festival on September 1, 2010. It was released in selected theaters in the
United States starting December 3, 2010 and was released nationwide on
December 17; which was right before Oscar nominees were announced.
4. Black Swan
Others movies released on the same weekend: All good things, The
Warriors Way, I Love You Philip.
Promotion: Only one trailer was released for the movie and a
proportional website was created as well as Twitter and Facebook
pages. Black Swan was featured on Hollywood Reporter and USA
Today.

5. Shutter Island
Target Audience:: Males (25-40 years old)
Appeal to Audience: The movie falls under the thriller genre with middle
aged men which fit the target audience.
Released Date: Shutter Island was released on February 13, 2010 at
Berlin International Film Festival. After that it was released nationwide
on February 19, 2010.
The film was originally scheduled to be released on October 3, 2009 just
in time for the 2009-10 awards season. However, the studio postponed
the release date because it hoped their other films, The Lovely Bones
and Up in the Air, would be Oscar contenders and didn’t want to
overspend in marketing its various offerings.
6. Shutter Island
Promotion: The movie released only one
trailer before it was released. A Facebook
fan page as well as a film website . Shutter
Island has three T.V. spots, one was aired
during the Super Bowl. The movie was
brought to the Harry Knowles’ Butt-Numb-
a-Thon (fan geared screening event) to
garner interest from audiences and help the
movie be promoted by word of mouth.
