in transition modernize and improve
agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices,
ensuring good nutrition and food security for
all. Its Latin motto, fiat panis, translates as
"let there be bread".
 The FAO was formed in 1945 with
headquarters in Rome. It was the first
United Nations Organization specialized
agency, created to look after several areas
of world co-operation.
The FAO’s primary aim is to increase
agricultural production to keep pace with
the growing population in the world.
 To increase the efficiency of farming
fisheries and forestry.
 To improve the condition of rural people.
 To improve the nutritional status in all the
countries.
 To help nations to improve the living
standards of citizens.
 The FAO is also collaborating with other
International Agencies such as UNICEF,WHO
is Applied Nutritional Programme.
 The joint WHO and FAO form the basis of
many collaborative activities, nutritional
surveys, training programmes and the co-
ordination of researches etc.
