Focus group feedback
1. Focus Group – Audience Feedback
I had five people contribute to my focus group (not including myself). None of these people were from my media
class but they were all my external friends so I am aware bias could prove to be an issue with this.
Music Video
Questions:
1. Do you think the music video represent the genre well?
2. Is there a good variety of shots?
3. Is the narrative structure easy to follow?
2. General response
• 1. The music video does capture the genre well, especially in the performance part of the song. I was personally
concerned that I picked a song that was maybe too slow for me to really capture the genre. This is why tried hard
to get the Mise-En-Scene correct in the performance with the coat, hat, sunglasses and guitar. A general criticism I
was that the video doesn’t seem to peak with any sort of tempo raise. I toom this as valid criticism and tried to
improve this by trying to make the video play in time with the song so it made the overall flow more appropriate. I
struggled to raise the actual tempo because I don’t think the song has a peak in tempo and I wanted the video
and the song to match in that respect.
• 2. The second question is where I think I got the most positive feedback. All of my focus group agreed there was a
good variety of shots in the video. These included close ups, mid-shots, long-shots, etc.
• 3. The narrative structure was another positive piece of feedback for me. The only criticism was when someone
said the narrative has no conclusion but once I explained that there is no conclusion since the gives no conclusion,
everyone was understanding that the story is told through his body language and emotions.
3. • Digipak
• Questions:
• 1. Does this fit the with the narrative of the music video?
• 2. Are the pictures of good quality?
• 3. Do the slides compliment each other well?
4. General Response
• 1. My best pece of feedback was from question. People agreed the digipak did fir the music video. The feedback
said this was mainly due to the fact that the same cloths from the video and actor were used in the digipak
creating continuity.
• 2. I was informed by my focus group that pictures were not very good quality. I knew this going in but the
feedback was appreciated regardless. The plan from here is to try and fix the issue with the quality of the
photos.
• 3. The feed back was mixed on this question. I had five people in this focus group. Two of them thought digipak
did compliment itself well in terms of the panels. The other three thought they didn’t. As my focus group was 3
to 2 in saying my product wasn’t up to scratch in these two aspects I will look to improve the quality of photo
and the complementation of each panel with the other panels.
5. Magazine Advertisement
• Questions:
• 1. Does it look like a magazine advertisement for an album?
• 2. Does it compliment the rest of the package well?
• 3. Does it represent the genre well?
6. General Response
• 1. The first response actually had me a little worried because all five of the focus group agreed that the magazine
advert looked like a ‘WANTED’ poster. This wasn’t my intention after discussing this for a while I raised a follow-up
question which was, “Does it work?” and people said it does fit the rock genre and despite also looking like a
‘WANTED’ poster, it does also look like a magazine advert too. I was actually happy with the response because I
felt the style was actually fitting of the genre and worked really well.
• 2. My focus group agreed it does fit the rest of the package well which was a relief to me because I saw this as
possibly the most important question out of them all. The genre all seems to be rock and the links between the
imagery was the reason my group said it worked.
• 3. All of my focus group agreed it does fit the genre well because the main image cannot really be seen as
anything else. The sunglasses, the hat, the coat all make it quite clear what type of message I was trying to coney
in my and the focus groups opinions.
