Permitting and Enforcement
The Dynamics are Changing!
New developments:
EPA proposal entitled “Effluent Limitation Guidelines and Standards for
the Construction and Development Point Source Category.”
Requires better focus and accountability on standard erosion and
sediment control BMP’s.
Recommends passive stormwater treatment to reduce turbidity if
standard erosion and sediment control BMP’s are not enough.
Soil in our Water
Stormwater
Sedimentation causes:
Clogged stream channels.
Increased bank erosion.
Meandering and flooding.
Sediment reduces storage capacity of reservoirs, destroys wetland
areas, and degrades the quality of water used for municipal,
industrial, and recreational uses.
Aquatic Habitat Impact
Clean gravel streambeds become muddy bottoms.
Native fish, insects, and animals disappear. Turbidity and suspended
solids are toxic to aquatic organisms.
Oxygen producing plants die off.
Water temperatures increase.
Dishonorable Discharge
If Left unprotected, think of the sediment entering environment
Now What? You have successfully retained your stormwater on
site but…
High NTU levels.
In Addition:
Your stormwater is full of suspended clays and particulates that refuse
to settle out on their own due to small size.
untreated particle settling time
 1.0 mm coarse sand 10 seconds
 0.1 mm fine sand 125 seconds
 .01 silt 108 minutes
 .0001 colloidals 755 days
Your infiltration basin isn’t functioning.
You need to make room for more stormwater before the next rain
event.
Below Grate Inlet Protection
• Custom sizes depending on frame size
• Adjustable frame system Installs easily into frame of catch basins
• High Flow Grey Material allows 192 gal/ft2/min
• Reusable-After use; clean by spraying out sediment
• Also available in allows easy fit for different sizes
• Separate back for curb installations
Above Grate Inlet Protection
Protect Drains and Inlets WITHOUT Lifting Any Grates
• Keeps dirt, sand, sediment, trash and debris out of drains
• Fast installation using built in magnets – no lifting of heavy catch basin grates.
• Common stocked sizes for street & combo drains . Custom sizes also available.
• Heavy-duty, reinforced material allows up to 192 gal/ft2/min. through drains.
• EZ maintenance –remove unit, shake off dirt, silt and sediment and replace.
• Low-profile design can be driven over and is unobtrusive to traffic and personnel.
• EZ Inlet Guard- awarded Product Of The Year in its division by Plant Engineering.
Visually Superior Solution coupled with increased performance
Easier to clean, reusable, drivable.
Out with the half solutions, and in with the increased protection
Drivable solutions- not reducing accessibility
Covers contractor. Cheap???
Hi Flows filter up to @ 192 gal/ft2/min
Capture sediment for safe disposal
Better Curb Appeal
Traffic Friendly
Reusable
Curb Inlet Protection (Clip Guard)
The Clip Guard is ideal for protecting concrete storm drains from silt and debris.
• Installs easily, just clip into place
• High Flow Grey Material allows 192 gal/ft2/min
• Reusable-After use; clean by spraying out sediment
• Also available in custom sizes
• Hydrocarbon model- incorporate polymor which solidifies hydrocarbons.
• Reusable
HiFlo/ MaxxFlo Silt
Fence
HiFlo Silt fence® & MaxxFlo Silt Fence are patent pending
HiFlo & MaxxFlo Silt Fence allows better flow than standard silt
fence.
• Allows better flow while keeping silt on the site
• HiFlo Grey Material allows up to 192 gal/ft2/min
• MaxxFlo Silt Fence material allows for significantly higher
flow rates.
• Built in scrim for added strength
• Wood stake rolls in 50’ & 100’ lengths- Custom stake
PVC- Chitosan injection tube
Standard
Dewatering Bag
The flow rate for the standard
dewatering bag is 95 gal/min/ft2
versus 192 gal/min/ft2 for the
Pump-It Tube.
Pump-It Tube enables solutions
at higher flow rates. Increasing
productivity .
The standard dewatering bags
ranging from 3x3, 6x6, 10x15, to
15x15.
Pump-It Tube vs. Standard Bag
A 15ft x 15ft dewatering bag is
replaced by a 40 inch x 20 ft
Pump-It Tube.
Pump-It Tubes-
Straps with D-Rings
attach around
tubes from pumps
Pump- It Tube
Ideal for removing sediment when dewatering collection ponds, sumps, and more.
• Attaches easily to pipes and hoses with a Velcro strip (included),
a simple pipe clamp or heavy zip tie (not included)
• High Flow Grey Material allows 192 gal/ft2/min
• Reusable-After use; clean by spraying out sediment
• Also available in custom sizes depending on amount of discharge
• High strength stitching to minimize high pressure blowouts
• Velcro handles sewn along the length of the tube to aid in mobility
Pump-It Tube - user to pump out the sediment without slowing the pumps discharge
Overflow protection available on above grate models- as well.

MSD Wash Out Pit
“EZ- Concrete Washout System”
Treat Slurry & Release on Site EZ Concrete Washout System Steps for Proper Treatment PH Levels
Set Up Stand as Pictured above (Each bag/ Stand Should handle 3- 10 trucks)
The following steps are per concrete washout (Per truck) Stabilized
1. Sprinkle 5 lb bag of “EZ Washout PH Stabilizer” across bottom of Stand
2. Upon Starting Rinse Flow, 8 oz bottle of Solution #1 needs to be added at the rinse flow to ensure proper mixing
3. Add 8 oz bottle of Solution #2 in the same manner as step 3. (Solution 1, then Solution 2)
*Additional mixing with a few more gallons of the rinsewater will ensure adequate mixing.*
EZ Concrete Washout System Bag/ Stand will hold up to 1 cubic yard of waste. This should handle 3- 10 trucks per use.
(Dependent on amount of concrete dumped before rinsing process)
Custom Protection with Ease

I am sending a note as a follow-up to our discussion today regarding your dewatering
products. As we discussed, the WDNR
does not recommend a specific product. Our standards and guidance only address the
technical aspects and are not codified.
Therefore, if you have a product that is a bit different from our technical standards, it can
still be used.
Please give me a call if I can clarify
Best

Flow-Water, LLC, Pump-it Tube Dewatering Bags products are acceptable dewatering BMP’s
for use on Mn/DOT projects. Mn/DOT does not have an Approved Products List for this
product. Dewatering is an important activity on construction sites that need to have reduced
turbidity during construction to meet Mn/DOT Standard Specifications for Construction and
this BMP will assist in accomplishing this.
