Flash Flood Crisis
• On the 4th June 2014, only 3 hours of heavy raining had
engulfed nearly the whole of IIUM in derby and water
• It aired on various news networks and got the attention of
the government
• It was a huge problem for IIUM and dealt a huge blow to the
reputation of the University.
Objectives
• From our research of Crisis Management, we had formed
our own objective of our project
1. To inquire on how the Office of Corporate Communication
& Marketing IIUM deals with the flash flood crisis.
2. To relate to the actions taken by the Crisis Management
principles with the flash flood crisis.
3. To describe the changes brought by the social media into
the practice of Public Relation to the flash flood crisis.
Critical Reflection
• Through this journey we had to go through a lot to achieve
our goals.
• We had to consult the lecturer for guidance, conduct
research on Crisis Management which consisted of Journals,
Images, News, get the appropriate equipment and set up the
appointment.
• Our biggest constraints were loosing our group mate and
finding the right time to set up and appointment
Findings
• the university had the go through many pains to solve this
problem.
• The biggest issue that the CCD (Corporate Communication
Division) had to deal with is preventing people for
spreading and sharing wrong information about IIUM on
the social media.
• IIUM had figured out that the main reason for this flood was
the illegal logging that occurred behind the female sport
complex.
Conclusion
• We conclude that Crisis management is one of the most
important things that an institution must take care of.
• We not done properly, it can damage the image and the
reputation of the university
• Organizations and institution must be quick to act when
something goes wrong

Flash Flood Crisis at IIUM

  • 1. Flash Flood Crisis Done by HASSAN RADWAN (1323577) KAIYISAH NURULSYAKUR YUSOF (1216428)

Flash Flood Crisis • On the 4th June 2014, only 3 hours of heavy raining had engulfed nearly the whole of IIUM in derby and water • It aired on various news networks and got the attention of the government • It was a huge problem for IIUM and dealt a huge blow to the reputation of the University.

  • 4. Objectives • From our research of Crisis Management, we had formed our own objective of our project 1. To inquire on how the Office of Corporate Communication & Marketing IIUM deals with the flash flood crisis. 2. To relate to the actions taken by the Crisis Management principles with the flash flood crisis. 3. To describe the changes brought by the social media into the practice of Public Relation to the flash flood crisis.

Critical Reflection • Through this journey we had to go through a lot to achieve our goals. • We had to consult the lecturer for guidance, conduct research on Crisis Management which consisted of Journals, Images, News, get the appropriate equipment and set up the appointment. • Our biggest constraints were loosing our group mate and finding the right time to set up and appointment

Findings • the university had the go through many pains to solve this problem. • The biggest issue that the CCD (Corporate Communication Division) had to deal with is preventing people for spreading and sharing wrong information about IIUM on the social media. • IIUM had figured out that the main reason for this flood was the illegal logging that occurred behind the female sport complex.
  • 7. Conclusion • We conclude that Crisis management is one of the most important things that an institution must take care of. • We not done properly, it can damage the image and the reputation of the university • Organizations and institution must be quick to act when something goes wrong
