India won only 28 medals in 28 editions of Olympics.
USA at the same period, USA could cross 1000
medals in the Rio Olympics 2016.
India did not participated in 1896, 1904, 1908 and
1912 editions of Olympics.
India didn’t won a single medal in six Olympics.

Today lifestyle diseases are on a rise in India
affecting even the young.
Cases of diabetes and hypertension are on the
rise and even common among children in India.
But small lifestyle changes can prevent these
lifestyle disease and help people to live a health
and prosperous life.
Fit India Movement is an effort to bring these
small lifestyle changes.

A walkathon is a type of community or school fundraiser in
which participants raise money by collecting donations or
pledges for walking a predetermined distance or course (10
kms).
They are similar in format to other physical activity based
fundraising events such as marathons and cycling races, but
are usually non-competitive and lower intensity.
Walkathon (walk-a-thon), walking marathon or sponsored walk

Walkathons are popular fundraisers for issues that affect
large sections of the population.
Most commonly, Walkathons focus on fighting or curing
pervasive diseases or ailments such as AIDS, Cancer,
Diabetes, Lupus, and Arthritis, and participation is also often
promoted as a symbol of empowerment, remembrance, or
awareness of sufferers and their relations.

Cycling is one of the best ways to remain fit
and healthy.
Events combines fitness with fun.
TAKE AWAY
‘Fit India Movement’ will be more effective
if it is a part of the curriculum and when marks
are awarded, students will actively participate
in such programme.
In the past UGC has introduced two credits
for ‘Swachh Bharat Summer Internship’
programme offered as elective under CBSE to
the students of Higher Education Institutions.

fitness and yoga.
Hence a model curriculum for ‘Fit India
Movement’ in Higher Education Institutions is
suggested hereunder, which could be taken-up
in the ‘Board of Studies’ and other academic
bodies for implementation in various
Universities and Autonomous Colleges
throughout the nation.

Paper-I FIT INDIA - TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT
Regulations
Eligibility: First / second year students studying in any P.G.
degree under CBCS in the University departments / centres /
schools.
Duration: During the second / third semester in the
forenoon of Tuesday and Thursday between 6.30 am and
8.00 am
Evaluation: The examination shall comprise of continuous
internal assessment throughout the course period, followed
by the University examination (Three hours duration) at the
end of the course. Internal - 40 marks and External - 60
marks. Passing minimum – 50 marks.

Slow Continuous method, Fast Continuous method, Intensive Interval
method, Extensive Interval method and Repetition method. Aerobics,

training with - own body weight, partners and equipment. Weight

Running Events: Starting techniques: Standing start, Crouch start and
its variations, Proper use of blocks. Finishing Techniques: Run Through,
Forward lunging, Shoulder Shrug. Jumping events: Various stages in
Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump and Pole Vault. Throwing events:
Basic skills and techniques in Shot Put, Discus, Javelin and Hammer
throws. Events Practise, drills, lead-up games and basic rules of track
and field events.
Unit – V Games
Volleyball: Fundamental Skills -Players Stance, Receiving the ball and
passing to the team mates. Over head pass. Under hand pass. Service-
