BIG GUNS RATTLE POLL BEDAnti-CAA protests in Jamia, Shaheen Bagh no
coincidence but an experiment: Modi in Delhi
New Delhi:The contro-
versy over BJP lead-
ers’ hate speeches
against anti-CAA pro-
testers yet to abate,
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi today tagged
the protests “anarchy”
and sought Delhi’s
mandate to stop it. Ac-
cusing Delhi’s ruling
Aam Aadmi Party and
the Congress of engi-
neering the protests,
he said the two parties
are playing politics of
appeasement. “Hiding
behind the constitu-
tion and the national
flag, they are giving
lectures,” he said at a
rally days before the
assembly elections.
Delhi has spearhead-
ed the protests against
the Citizenship Amend-
ment Act. Inspired by
the women’s protests at
Shaheen Bagh -- which
headlined across the
world -- woman in vari-
ous cities have hit the
streets.
The Prime Minister
today questioned if
these protests were a
“coincidence”.
“WhetheritisSeelam-
pur, Jamia or Shaheen
Bagh, there have been
multiple protests
against theCAA.Doyou
think these protests are
a coincidence? It is not.
It is all an experiment
rooted in politics. If it
was simply about a law,
it would have ended,”
PM Modi said.
Pointing to the
Shaheen Bagh pro-
tests that had blocked
an arterial road for
weeks, PM Modi said,
“If their game plan is
not stopped, they will
block another road or
gully tomorrow. We
can’t let them spread
anarchy. Your vote
has the power to put a
stop to this”. Turn on P4

Gandhian Gehlot blasts BJP for remarks on Bapu

event in Bangalore
that the entire free-
dom movement led by
Mahatma Gandhi was
staged with the con-
sent and support of
the British, and the in-

led by Gandhi was a
“drama”, Chief Minis-
ter Ashok Gehlot came
out strongly against
Kumar and con-
demned his remarks.
Gehlot called out the
Bharatiya Janata Party
and claimed that the
saffron party has no re-

“BJP MP’s state-

BJP leaders can afford
to call freedom move-

cause they never

Gehlot tweeted.
“Such statements re-

Gehlot also stressed
that such remarks

World Cancer Day on
February 4 to raise
awareness in the global
community to put an
end to the injustice of
“preventable suffering”
from cancer.
This year, “I am and I
will” is the theme and it
acknowledges that eve-

In 2020, the celebra-
tion of World Cancer
Day will see its 20th an-
niversary, when the dis-
cussionsurroundingthe
disease is even more im-
portant.
On February 4, 2000,
World Cancer Day was
written into the Charter
of Paris Against Cancer.
The document was
signed in between then
French President
Jacques Chirac and UN-
ESCO General Director
at that time, Koichiro
Matsuura.

control continues to
be priority in the
world health and devel-

The membership or-

towards strengthening
cancer laws across the
world. The UICC in
2012founded McCabe
Centre for Law & Can-
cer, which is the first
and only centre of its
kind. The McCabe cen-

law to fight cancer.
The UICC also posted
on its Twitter handle
that some of the most

Early implementation of resource-appropriate
strategies on prevention could go a long way in
keeping cancer at bay
Obesity is another big risk
factor for cancer around
the world. A review by
researchers from Italy’s Bari
Aldo Moro University found
that people with a Body
Mass Index (BMI) higher
than 40 have a higher risk
of cancer.
 Excess body fat increas-
es the risk of cancer
in three ways: Obesity
contributes to insulin re-
sistance which results in
cells being unable to take
up glucose and subse-
quently dividing faster.
 Obese people tend to
have higher levels of in-
flammatory cytokines in
the blood which causes
chronic inflammation,
leading to rapid cell
division.
 Fat cells increase estro-
gen levels, increasing
risk of breast and ovar-
ian cancer in women.
Thankfully, studies have
shown that weight loss in
obese people do help in
reducing cancer risk. Mak-
ing a healthy lifestyle choice
through regular exercise
could go a long way in
keeping cancer at bay and
reduces lot of problems too.
Smoking has been linked to
various types of cancer,
including cancer of the lung,
mouth, throat, larynx, and
pancreas. Also, chewing
tobacco has been linked to
cancer in a person’s oral
cavity and pancreas. So
the next time you think you
absolutely need a smoke,
think again. Even the National
Cancer Institue, US, says
that tobacco use is a leading
cause of cancer and of death
from cancer.
EXERCISE
NO TOBACCO
Aholistic
dietary
approach can go
a long way in helping
avoid cancer. Experts say that
eating an optimal diet may
reduce cancer risk by up to
70 percent and help recovery
from cancer as well.
An Iran-based study,
published in the American
Journal of Cancer Research,
found that certain foods
can fight cancer through a
process called anti-angio-
genesis, which blocks blood
vessels that
feed cancer
cells.
Scientists believe
that vegetables like broccoli,
cauliflower and cabbage con-
tain sulforaphane that helps
reduce tumor size, while
citrus fruits also help prevent
cancer.Higher intake of beans
and legumes may protect
against colorectal cancer.
Having nuts, olive oil,
spices such as turmeric have
been seen to have cancer-
fighting properties too.
FOLLOW HEALTHY DIET
Ultraviolet ra-
diation from the
sun is the number
one cause of skin
cancer. While the
sun’s rays may
make us feel
good, they
ultimately
lead skin
lesions
that are
cancer-
ous leading
to a decrease
in skin’s immune
function. Avoiding
midday sun, cover-
ing exposed areas
of the skin, using
sunscreen and
avoiding tanning
beds are some of
the ways to prevent
skin cancer.
PROTECTION FROM SUN
 According to the World Health
Organisation, one-third of
deaths from cancer are due to
the 5 leading behavioural and
dietary risks: high body mass
index, low fruit and vegetable
intake, lack of physical activity,
tobacco use, and alcohol use
 Tobacco use contributes to a
huge number of cancer deaths.
It is responsible for approxi-
mately 22% of cancer death
 Cancer is a result of abnormal
growth of cells, this growth
can be a contribution of both
external factors and inherited
genetic factors
 According to WHO one in
six deaths is due to cancer.
Approximately 70% of deaths
from cancer occur in low- and
middle-income countries.
Yes, we all love our
sugary treats and
savoury processed hot
dogs, bacon, and ham.
But medical experts
are of the opinion that
these might not be
beneficial in the long
run and may actually be
carcinogenic.
Studies have found
processed foods that
are high in sugar
and low in fiber and
nutrients are linked
to higher cancer risk,
while the International
Agency for Research
on Cancer in France
deems that processed
meat is a carcinogen - a
substance that causes
cancer.

also raised a question
saying that there was a

in 2008 as well, but why
did it not have such an

The UDH minister add-

THIS GAMA LOVES
TO PARTY HARD
ALL THE TIME!
One ‘Gama Sahab’,
currently posted in the
police lines at Chandpol, is
quite a party animal. But the
cop does not rave, rather
wants to keep himself ‘high’
through pegs after pegs
of any liquor he can get
his hands on. Word is that
th Gama’s ‘party’ starts at
daybreak and even during
duty hours he ‘parties’ in
his quarters. When anyone
comes looking for the Gama,
his staff ‘shoos’ him away
claiming that the sahab is
extremely busy. It is only
when the sahab is in senses
that something happens, but
that happens on very few
occasions.
RESHUFFLING OF PERSONAL ASSISTANTS IN
COMMISSIONERATE RAISES QUESTIONS
Einstein said that every action has a equal and opposite reaction. But
what happens prior to the ‘action’ is also a major development that
needs consideration. Take this recent shuffling of Personal Assistants
in the Jaipur Commissionerate. The PAs of IPS officers of Jaipur city
police have been shuffled recently and one explanation being given is
that these PAs were at the same post for a long time. But then again, the
‘behind the curtains’ story says that there was some major ‘exchange of
profit’ that has caused the shuffle. While many theories float in the air,
one thing is certain that this action is a reaction to an earlier action.
HOW A FORMER BOSS ENSURED THAT HIS MEN ARE REWARDED
The Police Head Quarters (PHQ) is rife with discussions about the DGP Disk. A previous ‘Victor’ had a
‘free-hand’ in awarding the disks to the officials, however, he could not still deliver rewards to all his
confidantes. Before bidding adieu, the former top cop had also promised those officers close to him
that they will also be provided with a DGP Disk. And much to the elation of these officials, when the list
of officials chosen for the honour was revealed, all these officials found their names mention in the list!
These officials are thus talking about the commitment of the former DGP.
A BRAVO SAHAB WHOSE ACTIONS
IRRITATE HIS SENIORS
ABravo sahab posted in the Police Head Quarters (PHQ) is an ‘eyesore’
for senior officials. The sahab has been in mid of a ‘controversy’ that
he is deliberately taking wrong decisions on various investigations. The
‘bade sahab’ under whom the Bravo is posted is also miffed with him as
even after hearing the parties in dispute and going through the evidences,
the cop is not taking the right course of investigation. Interestingly, officials
in the PHQ know that is the Bravo gives an assurance of holding the right
investigation. Well what transpires is a total opposite of his assurance!
Interestingly, the Bravo was recently ‘called off’ by the Court too!
Locust attack from
Pak worries farmers
First India News
Jaisalmer: It is not
been long that Chief
Minister Ashok Gehlot
himself went to west-
ern parts of the state to
get first hand report on
deadly locust attacks.
It was his initiative
that the farmers whose
crops had fallen prey to
the locusts have re-
ceived the compensa-
tion for their losses, but
not all of the affected
farmers have been com-
pensated till now.
To add to the pain,
the locust attacks from
Pakistan side continue
and so does the misery
of the farmers of Bar-
mer, Jaisalmer and now
even parts of Jodhpur
are living the night-
mare. The villages close
to Indo-Pak border in-
cluding Sate Bawari,
Booth, Sarupe Ka Tala,
Navatala and Mithdau
are under attack.
Unlike Pakistan,
which has declared lo-
cust attacks as national
emergency the Indian
government is yet to de-
cide on this crucial is-
sue. Gehlot has already
written to Centre and
also sent reminders in
this regard.

Jaipur: Fifty hours af-
ter the rape of a minor
girl during an engage-

cousin on Sunday night
in Jaipur, the police
have caught the ac-
cused. The city police
were able to track the
accused Raju after see-

was a contractor of
chaat stalls set up for
the programme.
The 10-year-old girl
had gone to an engage-
ment programme with
her parents at a mar-
riage garden in Murli-
pura where she was
raped by the accused
who covered her mouth
inside the toilet of the
marriage garden and
committed the crime.
After the incident the
police questioned the
catering workers, la-
bourers and DJ workers
present in the garden
during the incident.
More than 30 people
were questioned before
the cops caught hold of
the accused.
According to the po-
lice, when the girl was
not seen for long, her
family started looking
for her and later found
the victim covered with
blood inside the toilet.
After the incident,
the family took the girl
to the nearest hospital,
from where she was re-
ferred to JK Lon Hospi-
tal in a critical condi-
tion. The victim is a
resident of Durgapura
area. The father of the
minor reported the mat-
ter to the Murlipura po-
lice station. Later, both
the forensic team and
the police reached the
marriage garden to
gather evidence from
the scene.
CCTV cameras in-
stalled in the garden
and video recordings of
the engagement were
checked by the police.
As the DJ was installed
near the toilet during
the programme, there-
fore, no one heard the
sound of the girl
screaming inside the
toilet. In the video re-
cording of the engage-
ment, the girl is seen
eating in the garden at

there, the victim was

toilet. After that, due to
the bride’s entry, the
camera turned to the

Panther checks into Durbar
Hall of Udaipur City Palace
First India News
Udaipur: In a shock-
ing incident, a panther
entered the Durbar
Hall of City Palace on
Sunday night and im-
mediately the Forest
Department was noti-
fied about the same.
After the news, tour-
ists and people are
were barred from go-
ing towards the Dur-
bar Hall. However,
tourists were allowed
to visit Udaipur Fort
and Palace.
According to the
Forest Department,
the roar of the panther
was heard from the
store near the Durbar
Hall. The department
also tried to tran-
quilise the panther, but
the efforts went in vain
due to the long dis-
tance. Then, a cage
with a goat was kept to
capture the panther.
Forest officials said
that the cage was
placed in a narrow pas-
sage leading out of the
Durbar Hall so that the
panther sees the goat
and gets trapped. They
are estimating that the
panther must have en-
tered the Durbar Hall
from the side of Samor
Bagh as a panther
movement had been
seen in Samor Bagh in
the past as well.
Meanwhile in anoth-
er incident, a panther
attacked four people in
Bori village of Ban-
swara district on Sun-
day evening. The con-
dition of the two in-
jured is critical. The
eyewitness of the inci-
dent, one Sanjay, in-
formed that the pan-
ther was roaming in
the fields in village.
Lalji Patidar, Shakeel,
Khatu and Raju took
an axe and tried to
shoo away the panther,
but it attacked them
after seeing the axe.
After the incident,
large number of peo-
ple reached the spot
and saved the injured
from the panther. The
villagers said that the
same panther had
hunted a neelgai in the
Makartor forest of
Daduka, followed by at-
tacking a youth pass-
ing from there on a
bike. Daduka is just 5-7
km from Bori.

Jaipur: The deadly
Coronavirus threat has
alerted the state health
machinery. With suspi-
cious cases being re-
ported from various
parts of the state, ACS
Health Rohit Kumar
Singh on Monday asked
his team to pull up their
socks through a video
conference (VC).
Singh took feedback
from every district ad-
ministration and the
concerned health offi-
cials. He also instructed
them to strictly follow
international guide-
lines to thwart the coro-
navirus threat. Addi-
tional director (Rural
Health) Dr Ravi Praksh
Sharma gave the status
of the 26 people marked
so far. Out of 26, nine
have been admitted to
hospitals while 19 were
safe in their homes.
The VC was attended
by all the top health of-
ficials and they also
briefed about the use of
PP kit and precautions
to be taken while ap-
proaching a suspicious
patient.
So far, two MBBS stu-
dents in Barmer have
been put in isolation
ward. Both had re-
turned from Wuhan
(China) just a few days
ago before the global
warning was sounded.
Samples of both the stu-
dents have been sent to
Jaipur for diagnosis.
The students will be
monitored closely till
their medical test re-
ports confirm or other-
wise. Meanwhile after
Kishangargh in Ajmer
now two suspect cases
have come to light in
Beawar. The district ad-
ministration immedi-
ately rushed to the two
students who had ar-
rived from China where
they study. Both have
been tested for Swine
Flu apart from Corona-
virus. Their samples
have been sent to Jaipur
and Delhi. Family mem-
bers of both have been
given necessary in-
structions. The stu-
dents will be closely
monitored for next 15
days by local health of-
ficials. The Beawar ad-
ministration is also pre-
paring a list of all the
people who had come in
contact with these two
students after their ar-
rival from China.
Udaipur had its share
of scare when a Chi-
nese tourist reported
high fever on reaching
Delhi after a four-day
stay at Hotel Udaigarh
in Udaipur. She was
there on a tourist visit
and now has been ad-
mitted to RML Hospital
in Delhi.
On the other hand for-
merAlwarMPDrKaran
Singh Yadav opposed
the stand taken by some
local Congressmen on
creating an isolation
centre in Alwar. He said
that he is a qualified
physician and sees no
harm in shifting Indi-
ans from China in Al-
war. He emphasized that
one should always serve
the country whenever
there is a chance.

steps taken by them are
also part of their study.
On the other hand,

Jaipur: The Ashok Ge-
hlot government has fi-
nally resolved a long
standing issue pertain-
ing to the rural areas
coming under cities.
This issue came up
for the first time while
Gehlot was the chief
minister in 2012 when a
note sheet from Sawai
Madhopur became a
bone of contention be-
tween govt officials.
Finally after eight
long years the issue of
rules governing the
land conversion, single
lease and building map
plan approvals have
been clarified by the
govt. The anomaly sur-
faced due to lack of
clarity until now. So far
all the three issues for
rural areas in city were
dealt by the concerned
collector. When these
areas got assimilated in
the city area, the issues
were referred to UIT
and development au-
thority. But these bod-
ies considered all con-
structions in such cases
illegal. Now, Gehlot
govt has removed every
ambiguity from this
matter and issued di-
rections which will
pave way for hassle free
settlement of related is-
sues long pending
through out the state.

One of the shooters,

Enough proof...
Addressing a press con-
ference here, Javadekar
raked up the issue of
Kejriwal “staying a
night at the Moga resi-
dence of Khalistan
Commando Force chief
Gurinder Singh during
the Punjab Assembly
polls”. “You knew it was
a militant’s house. Still,
you stayed there. How
much more evidence do
you need?” he said.
“Kejriwal is now ask-
ing with a sad face, ‘am
I a terrorist?’ You are a
terrorist and there is a
lot of evidence to prove
that. You yourself had
said you are an anar-
chist. There is not much
of a difference between
an anarchist and a ter-
rorist,” the senior BJP
leader said.
Flanked by Delhi
BJP chief Manoj Ti-
wari and Union minis-
ter Anurag Thakur, Ja-
vadekar said the Aam
Aadmi Party (AAP)
was supporting Sha-
heen Bagh, where slo-
gans of “Assam ko aza-
di”, “Jinnah wali aza-
di” were being raised.
“Supporting such slo-
gans is also terrorism”.
He alleged that Kejri-
wal stood with Jawa-
harlal Nehru Universi-
ty (JNU), where “an-
ti-India slogans were
raised, and did not
grant sanction to prose-
cute (those who raised
the slogans)”.
Anti-CAA...
The Prime Minister’s
comments come days
after a string of hate
speeches from his
ministers and party
leaders. Last Monday,
Union Minister Anu-
rag Thakur was
caught on camera at a
rally in northwest
Delhi, egging on a
crowd to chant a slo-
gan that calls for gun-
ning down “traitors”.
A day later, party MP
Parvesh Verma said:
“Lakhs of people gather
there (Shaheen Bagh).
They will enter your
houses, rape your sis-
ters and daughters, kill
them. There’s time to-
day... Modi-ji and Amit
Shah won’t come to save
you tomorrow”.
Yesterday, Uttar
Pradesh Chief Minister
and BJP’s star cam-
paigner Yogi Aditya-
nath also have his ap-
proval to using bullets
to deal with dissenters.
Nitish, Shah...
Nitish’s equation with
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi is well known.
BJP and JDU leaders in
Bihar believe that any
decision regarding the
two parties is taken af-
ter a discussion be-
tween Modi and Kumar.
Recently, Shah has be-
come the public face of
the PM-Bihar CM
friendship. When a
number of BJP leaders
started questioning the
leadership of Kumar af-
ter the Lok Sabha elec-
tions, it was Shah who
clarified twice in public
that Kumar is the lead-
er of the NDA in Bihar
and it will go for the
2020 assembly elections
under his leadership.
Nitish had also recipro-
cated the gesture by re-
moving Prashant
Kishor and Pawan Ver-
ma from the party for
anti-BJP stand.

he EU and the
UK are now ne-
gotiating the
terms of their
new relation-
ship after Brexit. Food sup-
ply problems are a very
real potential problem, but
Britain is also having a
food-related identity cri-
sis: what will happen to
its cosmopolitan and
global diet? Will it end up
having to replace olive oil
with lard or gateau with
steamed pudding? Is it des-
tined to return to a diet of
roast beef – or Quorn, for
the vegetarians?
The question of what it
might mean to be both Brit-
ish and European, howev-
er, is one that has been
asked for longer than the
past three years. Our re-
search team is examin-
ing Britishness and Eu-
ropean identity, focusing
on the eating habits of
the English at the end of
the 18th century – the
first age of nationalism.
We started our project
when we came across a
book of menus – not yet
available online, sadly –
written by William Gorton,
the steward at Kew Palace.
His job was to keep track of
food bought and served at
the palace, since even
George III had to answer to
the taxpayer.
The menus reveal that
even though England and
France were often at war in
the 18th century, the Brit-
ish royal family ate a lot of
dishes with French-sound-
ing names. Dishes such as
“gateau a la duchesse” and
“mutton roulade” were fre-
quently on the tables of
King George and Queen
Charlotte, the equerries or
officers of the royal house-
hold and pages, and the
princesses and their gov-
erness.
For the royal house-
hold, French food was
not associated with a
specific European iden-
tity – indeed, “identity”
is a recent concept that
would have made little
sense to 18th-century
royals. Rather, French
food marked their high so-
cial status. At Kew, grooms
and servants were served
roasted meats: the plain,
hearty fare of the English
working people.
While many well-off
Britons dined happily
on French-inspired cui-
sine, it remained a com-
monly held view that
English food was more
honest than the food
served on the other side
of the Channel. Some
writers, for example,
disparaged French food
as “foreign kickshaws”,
a word supposedly de-
rived from the French
quelque chose, which
has come to mean a trin-
ket, but originally was
about foreign – French
– food. Yet, by the 1860s,
Mrs Beeton, the most Brit-
ish of cookery writers,
could describe “modern
cookery” as “greatly in-
debted to the gastronomic
propensities of our French
neighbours” – even offer-
ing a three-page lexicon of
French culinary terms
used in English.
French cuisine was not
the only foreign influence
we found at the king’s din-
ner table at Kew, although
it might have been the most
established. French dish-
es had been making their
way into the elite Eng-
lish diet since at least
the English translation
of Francois Pierre de La
Varenne’s The French
Cook in 1653. By the mid-
18th century, other Euro-
pean flavours were arriv-
ing in England via travel-
lers, particularly well-to-do
young men who extended
their education by taking a
“grand tour” of European
cultural sites.

I shall indeed be very glad if you

My dear Natwar,
Thank you for sharing our sorrow (Vijaya Lakshmi
Pandit is referring to the death of her brother, Jawaha-
rlal Nehru. He passed away on 27 May 1964). The tears
of his beloved India and indeed the world have been
ample evidence of his place in the hearts of his fel-
low men.
You are so right when you say he was the most beau-
tiful man in the world. Every action, every thought was
beautiful and one cannot but be thankful that he died
as he wished, in harne ss and in peace. In death the radi-
ance and serenity of his face were quite extraordinary.
We have much to live up to but I dare to believe the seeds
he planted will bear fruit.
I will write more later. This is merely to send you
my love.

THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL
CORONAVIRUS
WILL HIT
TOURISM AND
TRAVEL SECTOR
he spread of infectious diseases is
invariably linked to travel. Today,
tourism is a huge global business
that accounts for 10.4 per cent of
global Gross Domestic Product
(GDP) and 10 per cent of global employment.
Nothing seems to slow its growth as year-
over-year increases outpace the economy.
The United Nations World Tourism Or-
ganization is predicting further growth
of three per cent to four per cent in in-
ternational tourist arrivals for 2020,
with international departures worldwide
particularly strong in the first quarter
of this year.
But that was before a new coronavirus
(formally known as 2019-nCoV) hit China
and then very rapidly started spreading to
the rest of the world with 20 countries and
counting isolating cases.
Officials in China and those in the rest of
world have been much quicker to take more
drastic action after learning bitter lessons
from the SARS outbreak in 2003, which also
started in China. The impact on travel to
and from China of this new coronavi-
rus, however, has been devastating. Air-
lines, including Air Canada, have can-
celled all flights or significantly re-
duced the number of flights in and out
of China.
The severe travel restrictions imposed by
the Chinese government on its citizens and
the stern warnings from Foreign Affairs of-
fices, including Canada’s, to avoid all non-
essential travel to China and all travel to
Hubei province (Wuhan is its capital and
largest city) means that the economic impact
of this coronvirus will be felt in every corner
of the world and almost every sector of the
economy.
The market response has been swift,
with share prices of major airlines,
cruise lines and tourism companies drop-
ping several percentage points.
With the World Health Organization de-
claring the coronavirus a public health emer-
gency of global concern, Gloria Guevara,
president and CEO of the World Travel and
Tourism Council (WTTC) fears that this es-
calation could have a damaging and lasting
economic impact on the sector. She expressed
serious concerns that airport closures, flight
cancellations and shuttered borders often
have a greater economic impact.
Depending on how long the restrictions
and warnings are in place, losses could eas-
ily double of those in 2003. The pain will be
felt in every industry as tourism’s supply
chain involves everything from agricul-
ture and fishing to banking and insur-
ance. The hardest hit will be its core indus-
tries of accommodation, food and beverage
services, recreation and entertainment,
transportation and travel services.

FATHER SON AT ODDS,
BUSINESS SUFFERS
An huge township that was being constructed
at Ajmer road has come under controversy.
The developer of this township, who is known
to be close to a powerful minister in the former
government, has been going through a rough
phase since the time he handed the reins of the
business to his son. Till the time the developer
was working, everything was good and the
minister even entered in a ‘business venture’
with him in his C-Scheme project. While the
man maintained relations, his son ensured he
exercised more ‘autocracy’ in dealings and thus
relationships soured between investors and the
developer. Now the father and son are at opposite
ends and a ‘cold war’ is going on between them.
Interestingly, a division of property is also on the
cards and the developer’s hotel at Tonk road and
old projects could fall in his younger son’s pocket.
BUILDERS’ UNITED
VENTURE FAILS
Another major land deal at Ajmer road
has failed owing to the pulling out of
a major investor in the deal. Two builders
from the city had decided to form a
venture and build a township at Ajmer
road. Transactions worth crores of rupees
were conducted, however their investor - a
foreign national - pulled his hands off the
deal and thus started the builders’ ‘fallout’.
The project failed and the ‘friendship’
started souring. Such is the situation
now that the business partners are now
fighting amongst themselves and settling
their accounts. Interestingly, individually
the duo are doing alright since one
‘partner’ is making a project on the Tonk
road while the other is running a hotel at
Shyam Nagar.

that the government is

Sitharaman said.

Sitharaman also said
that money being spent

when government is

have a cascading effect.
The money garnered

“Although Budget has

was also about whether
we are being fiscally re-

Mining scam: Stay on arrest, nod to trial
Nizam Kantaliya
New Delhi: Two ac-
cusedof Rajasthan’sbig-
gest mining scam have
got temporary relief
fromtheSupremeCourt.
The court has stayed
Pankaj Gehlot and Shy-
am Sunder Singhvi’s ar-
rest till February 10.
However, both the ac-
cused will have to face
the trial after the SC re-
fused to grant stay on it.
Gehlot and Shyam
Sunder had filed SLP
against Rajasthan high
court order. The apex
court accepted their pe-
titions and converted
their arrest warrant is-
sued by special desig-
nated court for money
laundering cases into
bail warrant.
While, they got relief
from immediate arrest
but the Supreme Court
has asked enforcement
directorate (ED) to file
an affidavit about con-
duct of both the accused
i.e. when they skipped
the hearing in the lower
court. Both the accused
will now have to appear
before special designat-
ed court for money
laundering cases on
February 7.
However, the apex
court rejected Shyam
Sunder Singhvi’s SLP,
which he had with-
drawn. Shyam Sunder
had challenged Ra-
jasthan high court or-
der, which had refused
to stay on the special
money laundering
court’s cognizance of
the case against him.
Shyam Sunder had re-
quested the Supreme
Court that he wanted to
withdraw this petition
after which Justice U U
Lalit rejected his SLP.
Earlier, the single
bench of Justice Ashok
Gaur had quashed 11
petitions filed by for-
mer AS Ashok Singh-
vi, Pankaj Gehlot, Shy-
am Sunder Singhvi
and eight other ac-
cused on January 24.
They had challenged
the lower court’s deci-
sion to take cognizance
of corruption charges
against them and issue
arrest warrant against
them.Last month, the
special court for mon-
ey laundering cases
had declared Shyam
Sunder, Pankaj Gehlot,
Sanjay Sethi and
Dhirendra Singh ab-
sconder and issued
standing arrest war-
rant against them. Ge-
hlot, Sethi and Shyam
Sunder had already got
relief when the single
bench of Justice S P
Sharma rejected ED
court’s order to forfeit
their bail but asked
them to appear before
the ED court on Febru-
ary 17.
The ACB had un-
earthed corruption
racket in state’s min-
ing department in
2015. Despite, a central
government circular
to ban new mines allot-
ment in October 2014,
the accused had allot-
ted 653 mines between
November 2014 and
January 2015.
GUV @ PM’s RESIDENCE

Narendra Modi at
Prime Minister’s

evening. Governor
Mishra discussed

He also informed

in the state.
STRICT MONITORING: OFFICIALS
CAN NO MORE LEAVE SEATS
In an interesting move, the state employees
will undergo a major ‘overhaul’ in its current
practices. For one, the practice of leaving their
seats by junior employees will be stopped and
to enforce the same a ‘timing register’ will be
maintained wherein the officials will have to
feed in their in and out time while in office. A
respite for the lunch hours has been given but
apart from that, the employees cannot leave
their chairs vacant. Interestingly, a routine
monitoring of the register will also be carried
out by head of departments, principal secretar-
ies, divisional commissioners, collectors and so
on. It is now hoped that the new order brings
about a positive change in the functioning.

SENIOR-JUNIOR
SPAT TAKES A
NEW TURN
Churu District
Collector Sandesh
Nayak is in a bit of
a ‘pickle’. His recent
spat with his junior
officer - ADM Thori
- has become abine
of contention for the
Collector who had taken
‘pains’ to ensure that the
ADM is suspended from
work. However, now the
High Court has ordered
a stay in the suspension
which has resulted
in much ‘debacle’
for the Personnel
Department. Meanwhile
the Rajasthan
Administrative Service
(RAS) Asssociation is
also standing firmly
in Thori’s corner,
although as of now
the Association has
stayed its condemnation
proposal against the
Collector but it remains
to be seen how the
dispute pans out.
HC seeks reply
on panchayat
re-lottery
Jodhpur: On January
24, HC held a hearing on
petition of Deendayal
challenging re-lottery
order of 2664 panchay-
ats by the government.
On Monday, Advocate
Moti Singh Rajpurohit
informed the court that
the government had
donethere-drawwrong.
In the case, the court
has issued directions to
the state government to
answer why the govern-
ment felt the need to re-
draw the lottery in
changed circumstanc-
es. Along with this, the
court has ordered to
submit the detailed re-
port by February 7.

Jaipur: Today, Ranji
match will be played at
the Sawai Mansingh
Stadium in Jaipur
where the host Ra-
jasthan will lock horns
with Bengal under
Ashok Menaria’s cap-
taincy. The Rajasthan
team has won the last
two matches and will
be now looking for a
hat-trick. On Monday,
both the teams were
seen practicing at the
RCA Cricket Academy.
Although the perfor-
mance of Rajasthan
team in Jaipur has not
been a good one this
season, but the team is
very confident with the
victory from the last
two matches.
If we go with the re-
cords, three matches
out of 5 Ranji matches
played between Ra-
jasthan and Bengal
were draw.
Both the teams won a
single match each.
However, Rajasthan
has been waiting for
the victory over Bengal
for the last 16 years, be-
cause after 2003 Ra-
jasthan team has not
been able to beat Ben-
gal. All eyes will be on
Ashok Menaria who
has been playing a good
game and has been an
inspiration to young
ones in the team.

Sofia Kenin’s first

All-conquering No-

that a turbulent child-

for success.
His eighth victory in
eight finals at Mel-
bourne Park handed
him a 17th Major to
move within three of
Roger Federer’s all-
time 20.
Asked how he
managed to keep win-
ning in pressure situa-
tions, Djokovic said it
stemmed from his early
life. “My upbringing
was in Serbia during
several wars during the
‘90s, difficult time, em-
bargo in our country
where we had to wait in
line for bread, milk,
water, some basic
things in life,” he said.
“These kind of things
make you stronger and
hungrier for success I
think in whatever you
choose to do.

Ac- cusing Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress of engi- neering the protests, he said the two parties are playing politics of appeasement. “Hiding behind the constitu- tion and the national flag, they are giving lectures,” he said at a rally days before the assembly elections. Delhi has spearhead- ed the protests against the Citizenship Amend- ment Act. Inspired by the women’s protests at Shaheen Bagh -- which headlined across the world -- woman in vari- ous cities have hit the streets. The Prime Minister today questioned if these protests were a “coincidence”. “WhetheritisSeelam- pur, Jamia or Shaheen Bagh, there have been multiple protests against theCAA.Doyou think these protests are a coincidence? It is not. It is all an experiment rooted in politics. If it was simply about a law, it would have ended,” PM Modi said. Pointing to the Shaheen Bagh pro- tests that had blocked an arterial road for weeks, PM Modi said, “If their game plan is not stopped, they will block another road or gully tomorrow. We can’t let them spread anarchy. Your vote has the power to put a stop to this”. Gehlot called out the Bharatiya Janata Party and claimed that the saffron party has no re- gard for the ‘Father of the Nation’. “BJP MP’s state- ment is condemnable. BJP leaders can afford to call freedom move- ment a drama only be- cause they never fought for India’s In- dependence and never made any sacrifices,” Gehlot tweeted. “Such statements re- veal their true mindset that they use Gandhi’s name just for show and have no regard for him,” he said. Gehlot also stressed that such remarks only bring out in the open the mentality of BJP as they only use Gandhi’s name for their benefit. The three-time Chief Minister also lent support to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘twitter barbs’ on Finance Minister Nirmala Si- tharaman, where he had grilled the fi- nance minister. TALKING POINTJAIPUR | TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2020 02www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epaper/ I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia E very year, the Union for Inter- national Can- cer Control (UICC) organizes the World Cancer Day on February 4 to raise awareness in the global community to put an end to the injustice of “preventable suffering” from cancer. This year, “I am and I will” is the theme and it acknowledges that eve- ryonehasthecapacityto act in the face of cancer. In 2020, the celebra- tion of World Cancer Day will see its 20th an- niversary, when the dis- cussionsurroundingthe disease is even more im- portant. On February 4, 2000, World Cancer Day was written into the Charter of Paris Against Cancer. The document was signed in between then French President Jacques Chirac and UN- ESCO General Director at that time, Koichiro Matsuura. The UICC aims at uniting and supporting the cancer communityin order to reduce the global cancer burden and promote greaterequity.Theor- ganization works to ensure that cancer control continues to be priority in the world health and devel- opment agenda. The membership or- ganization also works towards strengthening cancer laws across the world. The UICC in 2012founded McCabe Centre for Law & Can- cer, which is the first and only centre of its kind. The McCabe cen- tre aims at advancing law to fight cancer. The UICC also posted on its Twitter handle that some of the most important landmarks across the globe would “light up in orange and blue” to commemorate World Cancer Day. Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally. The top cancers that affect the Indians are that of lung, breast, cervical and colorectal. But healthy changes in lifestyle and diet can help in reducing the overall risk of cancer Bollywood celebs and their battle with cancer Actor Sonali Bendre was diagnosed with ‘high- grade’ cancer and she is undergoing treatment in the US but that never stopped her from shaping up her digital book club SBC. Actor Ayush- mann Khurra- na’s wife Tahira Kashyap has been lauded for her spirit as she kicked breast cancer with her positivity and walked the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week sporting a bald look. Irrfan Khan, who was diagnosed with with Neuroendo- crine Tumor last year, has been battling the disease like a super- hero. Recently, Hritik Roshan in- formed the world that his father Rakesh Roshan was suffer- ing from throat cancer. A decade ago, Lisa Ray was diagnosed with multiple Myeloma cancer and she defeated the dreadful ‘C’ and was declared cancer-free in a year after which there was no stopping her. She is back with her role in the latest web series, Four More Shots Please! Manisha Koirala was in Kathmandu when she was detected with Ovarian Cancer. She was in com- plete disbelief and but then she geared up for her fight. Post her treatment, she is back with a bang. Manisha remains a true inspiration to many cancer patients as she delivers inspir- ing speeches at different platforms. She has also released a memoir ‘Healed’. Veteran actress, Nafisa Ali Sodhi’s Instagram handle is a ray of sunshine flooded with effervescent pictures of her family, friends and gleeful moments. The Life In a Metro actor is also diagnosed with Peritoneal and Ovarian Cancer and she is all smiles even during her chemotherapy. Early implementation of resource-appropriate strategies on prevention could go a long way in keeping cancer at bay Obesity is another big risk factor for cancer around the world. A review by researchers from Italy’s Bari Aldo Moro University found that people with a Body Mass Index (BMI) higher than 40 have a higher risk of cancer.  Excess body fat increas- es the risk of cancer in three ways: Obesity contributes to insulin re- sistance which results in cells being unable to take up glucose and subse- quently dividing faster.  Obese people tend to have higher levels of in- flammatory cytokines in the blood which causes chronic inflammation, leading to rapid cell division.  Fat cells increase estro- gen levels, increasing risk of breast and ovar- ian cancer in women. Thankfully, studies have shown that weight loss in obese people do help in reducing cancer risk. Mak- ing a healthy lifestyle choice through regular exercise could go a long way in keeping cancer at bay and reduces lot of problems too. Smoking has been linked to various types of cancer, including cancer of the lung, mouth, throat, larynx, and pancreas. Also, chewing tobacco has been linked to cancer in a person’s oral cavity and pancreas. So the next time you think you absolutely need a smoke, think again. Even the National Cancer Institue, US, says that tobacco use is a leading cause of cancer and of death from cancer. EXERCISE NO TOBACCO Aholistic dietary approach can go a long way in helping avoid cancer. Experts say that eating an optimal diet may reduce cancer risk by up to 70 percent and help recovery from cancer as well. An Iran-based study, published in the American Journal of Cancer Research, found that certain foods can fight cancer through a process called anti-angio- genesis, which blocks blood vessels that feed cancer cells. Scientists believe that vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage con- tain sulforaphane that helps reduce tumor size, while citrus fruits also help prevent cancer.Higher intake of beans and legumes may protect against colorectal cancer. Having nuts, olive oil, spices such as turmeric have been seen to have cancer- fighting properties too. FOLLOW HEALTHY DIET Ultraviolet ra- diation from the sun is the number one cause of skin cancer. While the sun’s rays may make us feel good, they ultimately lead skin lesions that are cancer- ous leading to a decrease in skin’s immune function. Avoiding midday sun, cover- ing exposed areas of the skin, using sunscreen and avoiding tanning beds are some of the ways to prevent skin cancer. PROTECTION FROM SUN  According to the World Health Organisation, one-third of deaths from cancer are due to the 5 leading behavioural and dietary risks: high body mass index, low fruit and vegetable intake, lack of physical activity, tobacco use, and alcohol use  Tobacco use contributes to a huge number of cancer deaths. It is responsible for approxi- mately 22% of cancer death  Cancer is a result of abnormal growth of cells, this growth can be a contribution of both external factors and inherited genetic factors  According to WHO one in six deaths is due to cancer. Approximately 70% of deaths from cancer occur in low- and middle-income countries. Yes, we all love our sugary treats and savoury processed hot dogs, bacon, and ham. But medical experts are of the opinion that these might not be beneficial in the long run and may actually be carcinogenic. Studies have found processed foods that are high in sugar and low in fiber and nutrients are linked to higher cancer risk, while the International Agency for Research on Cancer in France deems that processed meat is a carcinogen - a substance that causes cancer. AVOID SUGAR, REFINED CARBS AND PROCESSED MEAT Important facts about cancer The UICC aims order to reduce the global cancer burden and promote greaterequity.Theor- ganization works to ensure that cancer control continues to Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally. ‘I AM AND I WILL’

He targeted the Centre over the poli- cy failure on the eco- nomic front. During his visit to Kota, his home- town on Monday, Dhari- wal spoke at a trade un- ion programme and said that demonetisa- tion has hurt nearly 70% of the country’s business in such a way that markets are still suffering. Dhariwal also raised a question saying that there was a recession in the world in 2008 as well, but why did it not have such an impact in India then. The UDH minister add- ed that government’s fo- cus is on other unneces- sary issues rather than the economy. BRIEF in BUGGED? Or is it the grapevine... . First India begins a column that brings to you gossips or tete-e-tete from the corridors of power GUP SHUP THIS GAMA LOVES TO PARTY HARD ALL THE TIME! One ‘Gama Sahab’, currently posted in the police lines at Chandpol, is quite a party animal. But the cop does not rave, rather wants to keep himself ‘high’ through pegs after pegs of any liquor he can get his hands on. Word is that th Gama’s ‘party’ starts at daybreak and even during duty hours he ‘parties’ in his quarters. When anyone comes looking for the Gama, his staff ‘shoos’ him away claiming that the sahab is extremely busy. It is only when the sahab is in senses that something happens, but that happens on very few occasions. RESHUFFLING OF PERSONAL ASSISTANTS IN COMMISSIONERATE RAISES QUESTIONS Einstein said that every action has a equal and opposite reaction. But what happens prior to the ‘action’ is also a major development that needs consideration. Take this recent shuffling of Personal Assistants in the Jaipur Commissionerate. The PAs of IPS officers of Jaipur city police have been shuffled recently and one explanation being given is that these PAs were at the same post for a long time. But then again, the ‘behind the curtains’ story says that there was some major ‘exchange of profit’ that has caused the shuffle. While many theories float in the air, one thing is certain that this action is a reaction to an earlier action. HOW A FORMER BOSS ENSURED THAT HIS MEN ARE REWARDED The Police Head Quarters (PHQ) is rife with discussions about the DGP Disk. A previous ‘Victor’ had a ‘free-hand’ in awarding the disks to the officials, however, he could not still deliver rewards to all his confidantes. Before bidding adieu, the former top cop had also promised those officers close to him that they will also be provided with a DGP Disk. And much to the elation of these officials, when the list of officials chosen for the honour was revealed, all these officials found their names mention in the list! These officials are thus talking about the commitment of the former DGP. A BRAVO SAHAB WHOSE ACTIONS IRRITATE HIS SENIORS ABravo sahab posted in the Police Head Quarters (PHQ) is an ‘eyesore’ for senior officials. The sahab has been in mid of a ‘controversy’ that he is deliberately taking wrong decisions on various investigations. The ‘bade sahab’ under whom the Bravo is posted is also miffed with him as even after hearing the parties in dispute and going through the evidences, the cop is not taking the right course of investigation. Interestingly, officials in the PHQ know that is the Bravo gives an assurance of holding the right investigation. Well what transpires is a total opposite of his assurance! Interestingly, the Bravo was recently ‘called off’ by the Court too! Locust attack from Pak worries farmers First India News Jaisalmer: It is not been long that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot himself went to west- ern parts of the state to get first hand report on deadly locust attacks. It was his initiative that the farmers whose crops had fallen prey to the locusts have re- ceived the compensa- tion for their losses, but not all of the affected farmers have been com- pensated till now. To add to the pain, the locust attacks from Pakistan side continue and so does the misery of the farmers of Bar- mer, Jaisalmer and now even parts of Jodhpur are living the night- mare. The villages close to Indo-Pak border in- cluding Sate Bawari, Booth, Sarupe Ka Tala, Navatala and Mithdau are under attack. Unlike Pakistan, which has declared lo- cust attacks as national emergency the Indian government is yet to de- cide on this crucial is- sue. Gehlot has already written to Centre and also sent reminders in this regard. After the incident the police questioned the catering workers, la- bourers and DJ workers present in the garden during the incident. More than 30 people were questioned before the cops caught hold of the accused. After the news, tour- ists and people are were barred from go- ing towards the Dur- bar Hall. However, tourists were allowed to visit Udaipur Fort and Palace. Forest officials said that the cage was placed in a narrow pas- sage leading out of the Durbar Hall so that the panther sees the goat and gets trapped. They are estimating that the panther must have en- tered the Durbar Hall from the side of Samor Bagh as a panther movement had been seen in Samor Bagh in the past as well. Meanwhile in anoth- er incident, a panther attacked four people in Bori village of Ban- swara district on Sun- day evening. The con- dition of the two in- jured is critical. First India News Jaipur: The Ashok Ge- hlot government has fi- nally resolved a long standing issue pertain- ing to the rural areas coming under cities. This issue came up for the first time while Gehlot was the chief minister in 2012 when a note sheet from Sawai Madhopur became a bone of contention be- tween govt officials. Finally after eight long years the issue of rules governing the land conversion, single lease and building map plan approvals have been clarified by the govt. The anomaly sur- faced due to lack of clarity until now. So far all the three issues for rural areas in city were dealt by the concerned collector. When these areas got assimilated in the city area, the issues were referred to UIT and development au- thority. But these bod- ies considered all con- structions in such cases illegal. Now, Gehlot govt has removed every ambiguity from this matter and issued di- rections which will pave way for hassle free settlement of related is- sues long pending through out the state. My birthday festivi- ties went well, and I enjoyed them, and they ended in quite a magnificent concert given by the College Musical Society. I am much impressed, I have seen a proof copy of Choudhuri’s “Passage to England”. What a talented but spikey chap he is? He actu- ally goes out of his way to warn us British against the myth of Indo-British friendship, which I do think is a bit much. Food sup- ply problems are a very real potential problem, but Britain is also having a food-related identity cri- sis: what will happen to its cosmopolitan and global diet? Will it end up having to replace olive oil with lard or gateau with steamed pudding? Is it des- tined to return to a diet of roast beef – or Quorn, for the vegetarians? The question of what it might mean to be both Brit- ish and European, howev- er, is one that has been asked for longer than the past three years. Our re- search team is examin- ing Britishness and Eu- ropean identity, focusing on the eating habits of the English at the end of the 18th century – the first age of nationalism. We started our project when we came across a book of menus – not yet available online, sadly – written by William Gorton, the steward at Kew Palace. His job was to keep track of food bought and served at the palace, since even George III had to answer to the taxpayer. The menus reveal that even though England and France were often at war in the 18th century, the Brit- ish royal family ate a lot of dishes with French-sound- ing names. Dishes such as “gateau a la duchesse” and “mutton roulade” were fre- quently on the tables of King George and Queen Charlotte, the equerries or officers of the royal house- hold and pages, and the princesses and their gov- erness. For the royal house- hold, French food was not associated with a specific European iden- tity – indeed, “identity” is a recent concept that would have made little sense to 18th-century royals. Rather, French food marked their high so- cial status. At Kew, grooms and servants were served roasted meats: the plain, hearty fare of the English working people. While many well-off Britons dined happily on French-inspired cui- sine, it remained a com- monly held view that English food was more honest than the food served on the other side of the Channel. Some writers, for example, disparaged French food as “foreign kickshaws”, a word supposedly de- rived from the French quelque chose, which has come to mean a trin- ket, but originally was about foreign – French – food. Yet, by the 1860s, Mrs Beeton, the most Brit- ish of cookery writers, could describe “modern cookery” as “greatly in- debted to the gastronomic propensities of our French neighbours” – even offer- ing a three-page lexicon of French culinary terms used in English. French cuisine was not the only foreign influence we found at the king’s din- ner table at Kew, although it might have been the most established. French dish- es had been making their way into the elite Eng- lish diet since at least the English translation of Francois Pierre de La Varenne’s The French Cook in 1653. By the mid- 18th century, other Euro- pean flavours were arriv- ing in England via travel- lers, particularly well-to-do young men who extended their education by taking a “grand tour” of European cultural sites. Incidentallythefather’sof thetwowere Chief Ministers. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL CORONAVIRUS WILL HIT TOURISM AND TRAVEL SECTOR he spread of infectious diseases is invariably linked to travel. Today, tourism is a huge global business that accounts for 10.4 per cent of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 10 per cent of global employment. Nothing seems to slow its growth as year- over-year increases outpace the economy. The United Nations World Tourism Or- ganization is predicting further growth of three per cent to four per cent in in- ternational tourist arrivals for 2020, with international departures worldwide particularly strong in the first quarter of this year. But that was before a new coronavirus (formally known as 2019-nCoV) hit China and then very rapidly started spreading to the rest of the world with 20 countries and counting isolating cases. Officials in China and those in the rest of world have been much quicker to take more drastic action after learning bitter lessons from the SARS outbreak in 2003, which also started in China. The impact on travel to and from China of this new coronavi- rus, however, has been devastating. Air- lines, including Air Canada, have can- celled all flights or significantly re- duced the number of flights in and out of China. The severe travel restrictions imposed by the Chinese government on its citizens and the stern warnings from Foreign Affairs of- fices, including Canada’s, to avoid all non- essential travel to China and all travel to Hubei province (Wuhan is its capital and largest city) means that the economic impact of this coronvirus will be felt in every corner of the world and almost every sector of the economy. The market response has been swift, with share prices of major airlines, cruise lines and tourism companies drop- ping several percentage points. With the World Health Organization de- claring the coronavirus a public health emer- gency of global concern, Gloria Guevara, president and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) fears that this es- calation could have a damaging and lasting economic impact on the sector. She expressed serious concerns that airport closures, flight cancellations and shuttered borders often have a greater economic impact. Depending on how long the restrictions and warnings are in place, losses could eas- ily double of those in 2003. The pain will be felt in every industry as tourism’s supply chain involves everything from agricul- ture and fishing to banking and insur- ance. The hardest hit will be its core indus- tries of accommodation, food and beverage services, recreation and entertainment, transportation and travel services. The developer of this township, who is known to be close to a powerful minister in the former government, has been going through a rough phase since the time he handed the reins of the business to his son. Till the time the developer was working, everything was good and the minister even entered in a ‘business venture’ with him in his C-Scheme project. While the man maintained relations, his son ensured he exercised more ‘autocracy’ in dealings and thus relationships soured between investors and the developer. Now the father and son are at opposite ends and a ‘cold war’ is going on between them. Interestingly, a division of property is also on the cards and the developer’s hotel at Tonk road and old projects could fall in his younger son’s pocket. BUILDERS’ UNITED VENTURE FAILS Another major land deal at Ajmer road has failed owing to the pulling out of a major investor in the deal. Two builders from the city had decided to form a venture and build a township at Ajmer road. Transactions worth crores of rupees were conducted, however their investor - a foreign national - pulled his hands off the deal and thus started the builders’ ‘fallout’. The project failed and the ‘friendship’ started souring. Such is the situation now that the business partners are now fighting amongst themselves and settling their accounts. Interestingly, individually the duo are doing alright since one ‘partner’ is making a project on the Tonk road while the other is running a hotel at Shyam Nagar. STRICT MONITORING: OFFICIALS CAN NO MORE LEAVE SEATS In an interesting move, the state employees will undergo a major ‘overhaul’ in its current practices. For one, the practice of leaving their seats by junior employees will be stopped and to enforce the same a ‘timing register’ will be maintained wherein the officials will have to feed in their in and out time while in office. A respite for the lunch hours has been given but apart from that, the employees cannot leave their chairs vacant. Interestingly, a routine monitoring of the register will also be carried out by head of departments, principal secretar- ies, divisional commissioners, collectors and so on.
