DIAGNOSTIC
DIAGNOSTIC means deciding what is wrong with the patient.
We do this by gathering information.
HISTORY
HISTORY means what we know happened that got the person
into the situation.
SIGNS
SIGNS are things we can see, such as bleeding or deformity.
SYMPTOMS
SYMPTOMS is what the patient feels.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
We also may need to do a PHYSICAL EXAMINATION.
Start at the head and work down the body.
HEAD
HEAD includes EYES, EARS, NOSE and MOUTH.
Look for swelling, bleeding and irregularity.
NECK AND SPINE
Look for irregularity, deformity, tingling and loss of feeling.
CHEST
Look for irregularity.
Observe breathing rate and depth.
Spring the ribcage.
ABDOMEN
Look for bruising, swelling, damage to the skin.
PELVIS
Spring the pelvis.
LIMBS
Arms: start at the fingers and work toward the shoulder.
Look for medic alert, bracelets or necklaces.
Legs: start at the toes and work toward the trunk.
