important festival in India.
• Period of Diwali > 1000 people suffer injuries due to
fireworks in every major cities of India.
• Nearly 400 accidents involve children.

• Subsequently the focus shifted from Calcutta to
Sivakasi (Tamil Nadu).

• First aid kit should be close by.
• It is also sensible to have a
– bucket of sand
– plenty of water
– fire blanket
– bottle of sterile saline to irrigate eyes

• Hold the affected area under running water till
burning sensation comes down.
• Do not apply ointments and creams which are not
prescribed by a doctor.
• Cover injured area with clean, dry cloth or bandage.
• Seek immediate medical attention if area larger than
size of palm, burns extending beyond skin, face, eyes
or hands involved.

• Remember these four key things: stop, drop, wrap
and roll.
• Stop the casualty panicking or running – any

• Drop the casualty to the ground and wrap them in a
