2. Air Pollution
The toxic substances used in the firecrackers release toxic gases that are harmful
to the health of all living beings. Besides, Diwali crackers are dreaded by the sick
and the ailing.
A record 30 million people were affected by ASTHMA in India post Diwali last
year. Ranging from young children to old people, the smoke causes ASTHMA to
everybody. Breathing trouble leads to heart congestion and causes death in
severe cases.
3. Noise Pollution
Crackers that make a noise of more than 125 decibels at four metres distance
from the point of bursting are banned by the law. Given here are the hazards
posed by excessive noise pollution caused by crackers:
Hearing loss, high blood pressure, heart attack and sleeping disturbances.
Sudden exposure to loud noise could cause temporary deafness or
permanent relative deafness.
4. Water Pollution
The run off from the fireworks which when mixed with the ground water form
harmful toxic liquids which when consumed by Humans or animals causes nausea
and leads to collapse of vital organs including Kidney and Liver…
Polluted water also effects the ground water table causing long-term damage to
the eco-system
Collapse of drainage system by blocking drains with harmful waste.
5. Suffering to Birds & Animals
The high level of noise generated by the crackers cause immense suffering to
birds and animals. Your pet dogs, sparrows, love birds suffer the most.
Animals hear SEVEN times more than us…HOW LOUD WOULD FIRECRACKERS BE
TO THEM??
When we burst crackers the birds, dogs and cats in the area run away for shelter
and when they do not find shelter they get traumatized and some of them DIE
due to pressure.……..
6. Suffering to Children, Old people &
Patients
Children, old people and patients have very delicate immune system and are
highly sensitive to all levels of noise and air pollution causing almost
twice/thrice the damage as of normal person
Hazardous smoke created from the fireworks can lead to a number of
adverse health effects, including heart disturbances, asthma attack, allergies
and respiratory illnesses like bronchitis, emphysema, chronic obstructive
pulmonary diseases, laryngitis, pneumonia and other effects.
Firecrackers also cause serious injuries if not handled properly, especially by
children…
7. Normal People too Suffer
Harmful effects of chemicals used in crackers
Copper : Irritation of respiratory tract
Cadmium : Anemia and damage to kidney
Lead : Affects the nervous system
Magnesium : Dust and fumes cause metal fume fever
Manganese : Emotional disturbances, spastic gait and paralysis
Sodium : React violently with moisture and can attack the skin
Zinc : Leads to vomiting
Nitrate : Could lead to mental impairment
Nitrite : Could lead to coma

Skin diseases
Burn Injuries
Loss of limbs, hands
Collateral Damage
Sometimes, rocket-crackers set fire to huts, heap of dry grass etc. this happen mostly to country side
Burns, deafness, Nausea and mental impairment. Many people die in explosions in factories manufacturing fire-
crackers.
Smoke caused by firecrackers may be harmful to inhale can cause difficulty for drivers because of reduced visibility.
8. The Supreme Court of India observing that “the right to peaceful sleep is a fundamental
right of the citizens”, has banned firecrackers between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
during Diwali
The Central Pollution Control Board of India has banned firecrackers with a decibel level of
more than 125 at a distance of 4 meters from the bursting point.
Precautions need to be taken:
1) Try to avoid use of firecrackers.
2) Use firecrackers that are less bursting and less noisy.
3) Do not explode a firecracker in your hand.
4) Educate children before Diwali and discourage them from bursting firecrackers.
