1. Show that you understand the:

         The three elements of fire are fuel, oxygen and heat.

         The cause of fire are from: accidents and carelessness, electrical wiring,
          appliances, heating, unattended stoves and children playing with matches.

         Different types of fires are:




   a) Danger of smoke and fire: People often lose their way in smoke. They cannot breath
      because smoke makes them suffocate. People will then become on conscience and
      then fire will burn them.



2. Describe the methods of putting out various types of fire

   b) Where there are no extinguishers:
        a) If the fire is small, move the pot to the sink.
        b) If it is a grease fire, cover the pot with the lid to smother it and turn off the heat.
c) If there is a fire in the oven, close the door and turn off the heat.
         d) If there is a grease fire, use baking powder to put the fire out.

   c) Using common types of fire extinguishers:
      picture  Name of the Extinguisher      What kind of fire?
               Class A Extinguisher          Fires that have solid materials of an
                                             organic nature such as wood, paper,
                                             cloth, rubber and plastics that do not
                                             melt.
                 Class B Extinguisher           Fires started by gas, diesel, thinners,
                                                oils, paints, wax, cooking fat and
                                                plastics that melt.



                 Class C Extinguisher           Fires that involve fires involve
                                                electricity.


                 Class D Extinguisher           Fires that involve flammable metals
                                                such as magnesium, aluminium,
                                                titanium, sodium and potassium.




3. Describe what you should do:
     To prevent fires:
     a) Put in fire alarms
     b) Never leave the stove unattended
     c) Use a proper candle holder
     d) Keep portable heaters away from furniture
     e) Don’t use hot popcorn maker. Let it cool down
     f) Buy a power bar instead of overloading the extension cord

      When a fire starts:
      If a fire is burning more then 10 seconds, get out of the house and call 911.

      If your clothes catch on fire:
      Stop, drop and roll.

      To contact your local Fire Department, dial 911.

                                         Many boys and girls dream to be a firefighter when they
                                         grow up. Here’s how to make those dreams come true:

                                         1. Must be 18 years old.
                                         2. Graduated from high school with a diploma.
                                         3. Need First Aid and C.P.R.
                                         4. Need a DZ driver’s license
                                         5. Need to pass a physical assessment
                                         6. Vision test must be 20/30 without glasses or contacts
                                         7. Take a pre-service college course (12 months).


6. Find out the dangers of panic and how to prevent it.

      a. Tell people to “calm down”

      b. Give people a job to do like-- Call 911!

      c. Tell people to breath calmly.

      d. Let people know that everything is going to be okay.
