Editor's Notes

  • #2 I’d like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Fay Zoccole. I am the Literacy Specialist for AKRC and participation schools. I have 10 years experience as a qualified teacher with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education. During the past years, I have also kept up todate with current changes in Education. I see myself as a lifelong learner and have achieved credentials as a Specialist in both Special Education and Reading. When I am not at work, I am a mother of 3 children: Jaimee is 18, Matthew is 11 and Aaryn is 8 years old. Also I am a housewife.
  • #4 I would like to add the point: As many of our schools have 2 or 3 grades in each class, this will help teachers reach every single student in the area that they student requires assistance in. This program brings teachers together to plan for student differences and areas of strengths.
  • #5 Directors of Education, Principals and Lead Literacy Teachers were given a quick discussion on what First Steps is all about. Some principals have stressed that they would like to have the Lead Literacy Teacher trained as a facilitator for using and teaching the rest of the teaching staff how to use First Steps Continuum. At this point, we are look at the end of June for this 8 day workshop to run by an instructor from Pearson Education.
