While working in the different schools as a substitute teacher, I learned what
schools had the highest level of students with special needs in spelling, and math.
These kids were taken out of class to work with me on a one on one level helping
to try and get them caught up in spelling, sounds and how to read, as well as math.
It was amazing to see kids that were in the second grade not knowing there sounds
or being able to add and subtract math correctly. They were in second grade on a
first grade reading/math levels. I also worked in schools that had the highest level
of kids in reading and math. Why such a split? The way the school are set up, you
would actually think that the location of the schools verses the issues within the
school would be flipped. When substituting at the charter school I found out that
they have a higher than average poverty level at their school, where 73% of the
children in the school receive free lunches, which is up from 2013 at 65%. Our
neighboring Twin Fallscounty school district runs at a 55% with their charter

in a unique literary text named Last Exit to Brooklyn by Hubert Selby Jr. This novel
consists of six short stories taking place in the slums of lower class Brooklyn, New
York throughout the 1950 s. This novel has aroused much controversy because of
Selby s blunt style of writing involving drugs, sex, prostitution, and violence. Many
readers found the novel offensive during the time it was published because they
worried about the fragility of innocence of the general public, so much that it was
even banned in Italy and was held in trial throughout the United Kingdom at the

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION INVOLVEMENT Steve Harmon Steve Harmon is
a 16 year old black man who is being convicted of felony murder and participating
in a holdup at a drugstore. Steve grew up in a bad neighborhood and on multiple
occasions admired the tough thug guys and even wanted to be like King (pg 96).
His flashbacks show us that Steve did talk to King, Johnny and Cruz about a
planned holdup, (pg 50) though in court he outright lies and says that he never
talked to either one of them about anything important enough to remember (pg
226). When in prison, Steve is terrified of the other guys and guards (pg 96) and
gives us the impression that he is innocent and doesn t belong there. Steve wants to
make himself different than the other guys in his mind and the mind of the jury,
but he goes through hard times where he sees himself as just another criminal (pg

and loves his little brother, Jerry (pg 58). Steve sees himself as a good person,
though he admits that he has made mistakes. Steve s biggest struggle throughout the

is a major factor in a batter s hitting power, but another factor that also has to do
with rotation is torque. Torque is the tendency of an applied force to rotate an
object about an axis or fulcrum. That means that as a batter is swinging a baseball
bat, his or her hands are acting as the fulcrum, and the batters body is being rotated
around by the bat. Because a batter swings the baseball bat almost completely
horizontal, gravitational torque does not affect the swing. However, Rod Cross
says that torque is required in a swing, but wrist torque is not necessarily needed
because of the centripetal forces already being applied to the baseball bat in a
swing (9). If wrist torque is applied during the latter half of the swing, it could
result in a smaller decrease in angular velocity. This can lead to better results when

Page, the authors effectively use techniques to show a sense of impending doom for
the characters. This is conveyed through the use of weather and setting and
psychological doom that is created in both the film and story, the authors use a
variety of literary and film techniques to portray this.
The authors both use weather, darkness and the water tank to predict the ominous
events to come, and they do this through literary and film techniques such
foreshadowing, Imagery, camera angles and lighting. Throughout the story,
Goldsworthy effectively uses weather and darkness to foreshadow the impending
doom of the characters, when he says the lighting flicker, on cue, might have been
a warning sent from Kenny s parents (p.1) and utter darkness (p.1). It can be seen
that Goldsworthy uses darkness as a metaphor for death and uses weather to
foreshadow the ill fated events to come. In comparison to the story, where the
