- 2. During the creative process of composing my magazine, I have learnt many things that have helped me make my final products the best they can be. Looking at my Preliminary work in comparison to my finished piece, I can clearly see how much I have progressed with my skills and technical abilities. I believe I have learnt how to use Photoshop much more effectively for use with my final product. This is shown in a clear advancement in my abilities as I am now able to successfully and professionally use advanced tools such as the surface blur/spot healing tool, and I am also able to carry out tasks such as ‘cut out’ the image from the background more efficiently. I have also learnt how to do more complex tools on Photoshop such as advanced image manipulation using the clone stamp tool. During my progression from preliminary work to finished piece, I have learnt how to take better quality photographs for my magazine. Using the correct model and mise-en scene ensures a better looking magazine cover that is more suitable and professional looking – increasing the chances of magazine sales.
- 3. Furthermore, I believe that I have an altogether greater understanding of the production and development of media products. I now understand how much research and planning must go into a magazine in order to make it successful within the existing market – and how vital tools such as audience/target market questionnaires can be. I have greatly developed my knowledge about the typical codes and conventions of magazines, and learnt that in order to have a successful, professional looking magazine it is important to make decisions about following or challenging these conventions with great care, as every convention of magazines has a highly significant reasoning behind it. I have also learnt more about generic layouts of magazines, such as where different features on my front cover should be situated – such as the articles on my cover should be to either side of the page not just placed anywhere, as this makes my magazine look far too complex and may put off my target audience.
- 4. I feel that I have developed my skills technically, and learnt a lot about the media industry and the production and creation of new media products. I have learnt that a lot of research and planning must go into a magazine in order for it to establish itself successfully in the market – such as how vital tools such as target market questionnaires can greatly improve the design and purpose of a magazine. I believe it is clear how much I have grown and developed with my skills and knowledge when comparing my preliminary product to my finished piece.
