Following a flat opening, Indian equity benchmarks remained choppy during the day and crossed the previous closing
mark several times before ending in red with marginal losses. Nifty closed at 5543.
Globally, U.S. markets closed in red on Friday on weak economic data. Asian indices remained sluggish except
Japanese Nikkei (up 2.8%) which has hit a new high level since August 2008 on monetary stimulus package.
European markets were trading in green.
Back home, state run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) jumped 2.62% on BSE after registering 1% rise in turnover
of Fiscal Year 2013 at Rs 50,015 crore. However, the net profit declined 8% to Rs 6485 crore in Q4. (News)
Reliance Communication soared 4.52% on BSE on the reports of 80% stake sell plan in Reliance Globalcom. (News)
TVS Motor spurted 9.93% on BSE as the company is in talks with BMW for technology tie-up. (News)
Bank of Baroda shed 1.71% on BSE on allegations of money laundering by Firstpost.com.
Spice Jet shined 1.44% on BSE after a upgrade to “over-weight” rating by HSBC.
The market breadth on the BSE closed in negative. Advancing and declining stocks were 840 and 935 respectively,
while 629 scrips remained unmoved.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 18437.78, down 12.45 points or 0.07%. The 30 share index touched a high and a
low of 18504.48 and 18402.93 respectively. 17 stocks advanced against 13 declining ones on the benchmark index.
The CNX Nifty lost 10.30 points or 0.19% to settle at 5542.95. The index touched high and low of 5569.20 and
5537.05 respectively. 24 stocks advanced against 26 declining ones on the index.
S&P BSE Sensex CNX Nifty
The S&P BSE Mid-cap index moved down to 6133.17 and lost 0.18% while S&P BSE Small-cap index hammered
down by 0.13% to 5906.74.
The broader S&P BSE 500 index decreased to 6968.26 (down 0.11%) and CNX 500 index declined to 4361.15 (down
0.13%).
The volatility as denoted by INDIA VIX gained 3.77% at 16.77 from its previous close of 16.16 on Friday.

On the BSE Sectorial front, Consumer Durables (up 1.18%), FMCG (up 0.77%) and Healthcare (up 0.71%) were the
top gainers.
Information Technology (down 0.98%), Capital Goods (down 0.87%) and Banks (down 0.79%) were the top losers.
The Angels and the Devils
Bharti Airtel Ltd (up 3.90%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (up 2.62%), Cipla Ltd (up 2.19%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd (up
1.51%) and Dr. Reddys Laboratories Ltd (up 1.44%) were the top gainers on the Sensex.
Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd (down 1.85%), Larsen And Toubro Ltd (down 1.78%), Housing Development Finance
Corporation Ltd (down 1.62%), Wipro Ltd (down 1.39%) and Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (down 1.30%) were the top
losers on the Sensex.
