According to Wikipedia, a widget is “widget is a portable chunk of code that can be installed and executed within any separate  HTML -based web page by an end user without requiring additional  compilation .”
In other words, a widget can be a component of one web 2.0 tool embedded in another. For example, a slideshow or quiz embedded in a blog or wiki.
