1. Learners’ profile
The group consists of 19 students whose avarage age is 10. They are in fifth grade
studying at a private school located in a rural area. Their native language is Spanish and
they have little or no interaction in English outside the English class. Some of my
students have been diagnosed with ADD and are under medication when they attend the
class. Moreover, I have two students that due to some learning disabilities have a
different curriculum. During my clases, I work with them using worksheets or their
notebook since the textbook that is used for the rest of the class does not match the
content they study. However, some classes I work on activities that include all the group.
2. RATIONALE
Taking into account the time of the assignment, in which I
had already finished the contents of the term and I had also
administered the final exam, I decided to create a task to
include all of my students. A task that was appropriate,
meaningful and appealing for the last class before going on
holidays. Furthermore, I kept in mind that on Sunday
students will be celebrating Father’s Day at home. Those
were the reasons to carry out the following task.
3. 1. Get colored papers
for students and the
step by step video
(origami shirt tutorial
video).
2. Give students the paper
and have them watch the
video. Stop the video after
each stage so students can
do it on their paper.
3. Write examples of the
messages students can
write in their origami shirts
(father's day).
4. Have students write the
message and decorate their
origami shirts.
DESIGN
4. DESCRIPTION
Students watch a tutorial video about how to create an
origami shirt and write a message for Father’s Day in it.
In order to do so, the teacher may ask students to bring
a colored paper to class or give it to them. After that,
students watch the tutorial video and work on the task
step by step. When students have their origami shirt
ready, the teacher gives them examples of messages to
write such as happy father’s day, I love you dad, you
are the best dad, among others. Finally, students write
the message they prefer and decorate their origami
5. ASSESSMENT
For this assigment, students are assessed taking into
account two main aspects:
- Students listen, associate (with the video images)
and understand the instructions and thanks to that
they are capable of making an origami shirt.
- Students written father’s day message.
