Tom is an educational technology specialist and author of Best Ideas for Teaching with Technology: A Practical Guide for Teachers by Teachers and The Best of History Web Sites. Best of History Web Sites aims to provide quick, convenient, and reliable access to the best history-oriented resources BOHWS has been designed to benefit history teachers and their students by having quick reference to many sources. Best of History Web Sites contains links to over 1200 history-related web sites that have been reviewed for quality, accuracy, and usefulness. Included are links to K-12 history lesson plans, teacher guides, activities, games, quizzes, and more.

SchoolTube.com SchoolTube.com is the nation's largest K-12 moderated video sharing website that provides students and educators with a safe and FREE video sharing website that is exclusively endorsed by leading education associations. Their mission is to provide educators and students a safe and fun video sharing environment to enhance their classrooms and learning experiences. Videos are student produced and moderator approved through a innovative Chain of Accountability process. This produces a refreshing site that is appropriate for school use. Videos on SchoolTube show the possibilities of what can be done in a classroom and are a great learning and motivation tool for your entire student body.

SlideShare features a vibrant professional and educational community that regularly comments, favorites and downloads content. Anyone can view presentations & documents on topics that interest them, download them and reuse or remix for their own work. SlideShare is the best way to get your slides out there on the web, so your ideas can be found and shared by a wide audience.

6. Panama Canal Authority This enterprise is charged with operating, maintaining and improving the Panama Canal so that it remains the route of choice for the world. They are the exclusive administrators of the Canal's history and well as maintaining a clear vision to the future. The authority invests in training and technology and offer great resources on all things about the Panama Canal. They manage and conserve the Canal's water resources and participate actively in environmental protection, as well as in the sustainable development of the Canal watershed. As and educator this is the premier site for information on the Panama Canal.

7. Library of Congress In 1927, Archer M. Huntington, founder of the Hispanic Society of America, established an endowment fund in his name, the first of several important donations for Hispanic studies at the Library of Congress. The "Hispanic Society Reading Room is instrumental in acquiring significant gifts of manuscripts, music scores, and posters, photographs and films. The Hispanic Room is a great resource for all topics related to the achievements and contributions of the Hispanic population.

8. Canalmuseum.com This website is dedicated to all men and women who have and will work at or for the Panama Canal and made the heroic dream of over 400 years come true. It contains archival photos of the construction of the canal as well as primary documents important to the history of the canal. It is a great source for stories, books and links about the Panama Canal.

9. Ourdocuments.gov This site is dedicated to encourage us think, talk and teach about the rights and responsibilities of citizens in our democracy. The site includes over 100 milestone documents of American history. These documents reflect our diversity and our unity, our past and our future, and mostly our commitment as a nation to continue to strive. Good resource to locate primary documents with brief explanations. The Our Documents initiative is a cooperative effort among National History Day, The National Archives and Records Administration, and USA Freedom Corps.

10. State Department.gov Great source for information on every major nation in the world. The site addresses political, economic and social issues of each nation. State.gov has an education site with fun activities and lesson plans.

11. Theodore Roosevelt Association Founded in 1919 and chartered by Congress in 1920, the Theodore Roosevelt Association is a national historical society and public service organization that has perpetuated the memory and legacy of our nation’s 26th President through an array of historical and cultural activities. This organization has links to important TR-related archival collections, including the Theodore Roosevelt Collection at Harvard and the Theodore Roosevelt Collection at the Library of Congress.

Army Corps of Engineers The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approximately 34,000 dedicated Civilians and Soldiers delivering engineering services to customers in more than 90 countries worldwide. With environmental sustainability as a guiding principle, their disciplined Corps team is working to strengthen the Nation’s security by building and maintaining America’s infrastructure and providing military facilities where service members train, work and live. The site offers great insight on the history of the Army Corps and the many projects it has completed. It also includes brief biographies on important members of the corps.
