2. Indroduction:
• Hello, and welcome to my final PowerPoint in the
research phase of my project, here I will summarise
everything I have learned along the way, and give few
choices I have decided to go with in terms of my films, I
will lay this out similar to my Textual Analysis back on
Prezi, except this time I will mention what I will be doing,
please note that this is the plan as of this point, some
aspects of it may be subject to change.
3. AFTERMATH (2015)
• This is the name I have decided to go with for my film, the
name choice is based on what happened in this universe,
which I will go over in the Narrative tab.
4. Overview
• I have decided that for my opening sequence I will have a
mixture of action and story, I will accomplish this by having the
first half of the sequence being a sequence of establishing
shots, with a few scattered newspapers or old Televisions,
mentioning a few ‘World News’ events from just before the
world was destroyed, this including a declaration of war, and
the start of the bombing, as well as a possible advertisement
for bunkers, Meaning it will be a trip through the ruins of a
society at the brink of war, while the second half of the opening
sequence will have our protagonist being ambushed by a group
of gang members, leading to a brief fight, which lets the
audience know what sort of skills and weaknesses our hero
possesses. The sequence will end with a cliff-hanger before the
screen fades to black, a gunshot sound plays and the title of
the film displays.
5. Camera Work
• From the advice I got from various sources, a Post-
Apoalyptic film needs to be cinematic, It needs to have
long shots that establish the world, slowly introducing our
audience to this ruined alternate future. As for the action
scene, I will switch to a volley of quick shots, to show the
action from various angles while still following the 180
degree rule. My introduction sequence will most likely be
dominated more by the establishing shots, meaning I
need to think of a quick yet exiting action scene, which
would lead to the cliff-hanger at the end, giving the
audience that sense of ‘wanting more’ from my film.
6. Mise-en-Scene
• The Mise-en-Scene in my production needs to radiate a
feeling of hostility and withering, the survivors only have
access to junk and used equipment, thus the props and
costumes will need to be somewhat broken and dirty, as
well as the survivors looking like they have not washed in
months (if not years!).
• Lighting and colour should look aged, I feel a mixture of
browns or light grey filters might draw out the picture of
the earth itself being scarred by the long-gone nuclear
fire.
7. Editing and Music
• For the editing, I will need to do a bit of video-editing.
Firstly the gun fight scene will need to be edited in, both
the muzzle flashes of each shot and the gunshot sound
effects. While this will be difficult, I have found many
tutorials online about how to successfully edit this. I will
also need to find a suitable filter to make the world seem
more scared and battle-worn.
• For the music, I will use a calm yet aweing track for the
establishing shots, slowly picking up into something more
action packed as the protagonist gets attacked. I have
found several Royalty-free Music archives which I will
search for the right tracks once I enter the editing phase
of my production.
8. Iconography
• In terms of Iconography, I will take a similar approach to ‘I
am Legend’, by which I mean using scattered and broken
objects from today’s times, to get across the idea that the
world was destroyed. I will also try to fit in a few long
establishing shots of the deserted area, which can also be
iconic to my genre. Overall, I will check a few tutorials on
capturing the shots I want, but I will follow the norms for
Post-Apocalyptic iconigraphy.
9. Narrative
• After a bit of thinking, I have decided what narrative I will follow for my
film, the story of the world is as follows…
• The film is to take place roughly 10 years after an apocalyptic war
between Russia and N.A.T.O destroyed the modern world, leading to
mass nuclear bombardment of the capitols of each involved country,
My film will take place in the ruins of a small British town (or on the
outskirts of it) which was destroyed by a combination of enemy air
strikes and the riots and looting which followed. The protagonist
(name yet to be decided) was merely a child when the war shook the
world, now a decade later he attempts to find his place in this ‘new
world’, while having to face those who used the chaos to get into
power.
• In the introduction, I will deliver the background story by the use of an
old looking newspaper in one of the shots with the words ‘World War
III’ clearly visible on the main page, with another visible title talking
about ‘Rumours of Nukes’. I will most likely have this newspaper in
the final of the set of establishing shots, where the camera cuts to the
newspaper, then after a few seconds, the protagonist’s foot steps on it
as he walks away from the camera.
10. Stereotyping
• In terms of stereotyping, I am unsure what to change from
the norm. I will have a male protagonist who acts and
looks like an average man, nothing overly manly.
• I will include a group of gang members in my opening
sequence, as the protagonist gets ambushed, I will
probably end up stereotyping them as thugs, to give the
audience a negative impression of them, but I still plan to
have the first shot we see them in to have one on the
lookout while the other two are playing cards or a similar
activity and having a conversation, to move away from the
moustache-twirling stereotype of villains and make this
group seem more human (be that mortally questionable
humans.)
11. Summery
• That’s all I plan to do with my film, some parts may
change as I think of new ideas while storyboarding and
writing a script. In terms of spoken dialogue, I think I will
have my actors say the lines once on camera to produce
the mouth movement, then again in a studio if the audio is
too disturbed to sound professionally like in a real film.
• I am quite proud of what I have accomplished so far, and
as the time ticks, I continue to work on this project daily,
right now I am a bit worried I may not have time to finish
my evaluation but if everything goes well, I will have a
fully finished production and somewhat of an evaluation
done, Well, this concludes my planning phase of the
project.
