Throughout this course, you have been compiling a blog and writing essays that analyze various
elements of film such as theme, cinematic techniques, and genre. It is now time to combine those
elements into a comprehensive analysis of one movie. You will be completing this assignment in
two stages: for the first stage (1500 to 1800 words), you will analyze an entire movie; in the second
stage (300 to 600 words), you will reflect on how you analyzed the movie as well as how your

 How did society affect this film (i.e., what currents in society led to the creation of the film)?  If
you are unable to find any information about the social impact of the film, explain the personal
impact it has had on you. Note: Not every bullet point under the four listed components will
necessarily apply to your movie. However, you will still need to discuss each of the four main
components thoroughly, which means that you may need to explain a concept even if it can‟t be
directly applied to your movie. Your paper should be organized around a thesis statement that
clarifies what you will attempt to accomplish in your paper, and how you will proceed. Additionally,
you must conclude with a restatement of the thesis and a conclusion paragraph. Stage 2: Reflection
After completing your movie analysis, you will reflect on the analysis process and how you have
learned to more thoroughly analyze film as well as how rigorous study of film enhances your
development as a student and thinker. In this 300– to 600–word reflection, review your initial post
from the "Post Your Introduction" discussion in Week One, and consider how your ability to analyze
movies has changed or grown. Append your reflection to the analysis portion of your paper. Your

Informative Speech On Photography
I. Have you ever wondered how your cameras are able to freeze a moment in time? I have so that's
why I first took a photo class when I was a sophomore in high school.
II. I am here to talk about the tradional side of film photography.
III. I have about 4 years of experience shooting black and white photography.
IV. This is important because without film photography you wouldn't be able to easily access your
camera by one click away.
V. Today I will be talking about the basic functions of traditional black and white camera. Then I
will discus how to develop a roll of film and make a print in the darkroom.
BODY
Now lets begin with the functions of a film camera. There are many components that make up the
camera but I will break it down by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is fairly easy; first you cut your photo paper into strips and place it under the Enlarger. The
Enlarger is the key element in any darkroom. Place negative in the native carrier with the emulsion
side down (shiny side down). A negative carrier is "device designed to hold the negative in proper
position in an enlarger." (MiMi Photography, "Negative carrier"). Open the slot on the enlarger for
the negative carrier. Slide it in and it should lock into place. Adjust enlarger head up or down to your
desired position. Place easel under the lens of the enlarger and adjust the projected image on easel.
The easels function is to hold your photo paper in place. Focus your image by using the focus knob
until you see sharp edges. Once your image is focused, you want to set it for 5 seconds and turn off
you light. Then place your test strip below your enlarger with the shiny side up.
Grab a cardboard to cover a portion of the test strip and press the start button on your timer. When
the light goes out, move the board an inch or two and press start button on the timer again. Repeat
process until you have exposed the strip with light. Once light has been projected on your photo
paper you are now ready to put in the

Florence Cléo Cleo 5: The Role Of Objectification In Film
Objectification, what comes to your mind when you think of that word? When I think of the word
objectification I think of something as an object. If you were to clearly define this word it would be
to treat someone or something as an object, giving it a sense of reality that might not be there. So, if
we were to look at Florence 'Cléo' Victoire from the movie Cleo 5 to 7. I personally would say she's
a woman that contributed in a big way to herself being objectified by men. Then you have these men
that gaze at her, objectifying her at the same time with her even having the realization of what is
leading to all of this.
To begin, let's take the scene when her so–called lover makes a cameo in the film. she quickly
switches from outside clothing to a semi–revealing robe. She didn't have to change because in the
next scene Bob the Pianist was coming over to play her some new instrumental for a new song. So,
you would assume she would want to be more professional dressed for this business transaction. In
the case of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Something between her not feeling the songs and her feeling sorry for herself, she decides to storm
out after meeting with the pianist. It shows sweeping first person shots, where you on the street and
you feel like your Cleo and it shows all the men staring at her/you as if you were a piece of meat.
They show Cleo's face and she has a disgust looked on her face like what are why are these men
look at me like this.
Finally, taking everything that we discussed just these two scenes alone. It's hard for me to
determine whether Cleo's the victim of men objectifying her as this perky blond upcoming pop star.
If she the one using her feminist beauty to objectify herself to these Hollywood like standards to get
her mind off the fact that she might not have that long to live if all comes to worst and she is

Film Photography Process Analysis Essay
Ever wonder how those wonderful, abstract photographs in the museums came to be? How the
photographer organized and developed the image hanging in front you? Most people don't realize or
understand the process of developing a photograph and turning it into a museum print beyond just
taking the picture; like composing the image, developing the film, printing the image, and framing
it. If you're interested, I'll show you just about everything I do as a photographer to get complete,
framed print ready for the gallery. First and foremost, I have to buy my film of course. Choosing
what film to shoot with involves deciding what film speed, or ISO, I want my film to be depending
on if I'm shooting during the day, at night, portraits, color ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If you overexpose the paper, it'll come out too dark or even just completely black. So once I've
figured out what settings are right, I expose the paper to the light with the enlarger, and develop the
paper through a similar process as the film development. But now it's 2 minutes in the developer for
the paper, 1 minute in stop bath, 8 minutes divided into two separate fixer baths, and 30 minutes to
completely wash all those chemicals off the print. After all that, the paper can sit to dry. Once dry, I
mount it on mount board by gluing tissue paper to the back of the image onto the board and pressed
all together in a heat compressor to stick everything together. Then, once it's framed, it's good to go
into a gallery! And just finding a gallery to accept your image is a whole 'nother endeavor. Maybe
now you get an idea of what happens beyond the camera and just taking the picture. So next time
you're at a photographic museum, you can appreciate the hard work and determination that went to
creating the images surrounding you and why they cost so

Ben Hur Compare And Contrast
Your eyes are full of hate, forty–one. That's good. Hate keeps a man alive. It gives him strength"–
Quintus Arrius. In the movie Ben Hur (1959 & 2016) it is a tail of Christ, all about forgiveness.
Judah Ben–Hur is a wealthy merchant living in Judea at the time of Christ. Judah and his family's
get thrown into prison. Judah learns that he is to be condemned without trial or hearing, and flies
into a rage. These two films were directed by Timur Bekmambetov(2016) and in the 1959 version
was William Wyler. Comparing the two very superior movies they're many pluses and negative
aspects of both films. I will be talking about the length of the film and also the showing of Jesus's
face. As I talk about the length of the movie I will talk about the cinematographers decisions (Robert
Surtees & Oliver Wood). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was many unneeded details that were just excessive. And in the new one they cut a lot of not
important scenes and made the movie more interesting and it kept my attention on the screen. It
completely cut Aries out of the movie but I feel that was okay because it didn't have a big
importance. So overall I feel like the new film had a better story line and was short and sweet very
action filled I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars. Also a difference between the two films was seeing
Jesus face. In the 1995 film you never saw his face not even at the crucifixion. I don't like that in the
new film showing his face and introducing him early along in the show really made the story so
much better you felt more emotion about it. In the 1995 version he really wasn't around much but in
the new one he really showed about forgiveness and I feel it really made the film

Recording The Oratorio Song Of The Forests
Prior to composing the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 in 1948, Shostakovich composed the film
music Michurin that was about the life of horticulturist Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin (1855–1935).
The film music encouraged Shostakovich to compose another work based on the same rural theme.
Below is his statement during the aired interview in 1955 that confirms it:
"My work in cinematography has proven beneficial for my activity as a composer. Indeed, a number
of my compositions are a direct outcome of my work in the cinema. For instance, my work on the
film Michurin has prompted me to compose my oratorio the Song of the Forests."
In fact, the lines in song no. 5 Комсомольцы выходят вперед (Young Communists go forward!) of
the oratorio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another recycled material is the melody that occurs in the movie between 31' 45" and 32' 04" on the
scene where Michurin and the dignitaries were raising their glasses in a toast to Michurin's much–
expected success in developing a new horticultural technique for the benefit of Russian people. The
piano plays the melody as a background music in the scene. Part of the melody becomes an
important recurrent motive that gives a sense of unity to the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 (fig.
2). The unavailability of the film music score forces the author to assume that the melody is written
in the key of C major as seen in fig. 2 below.
Both the short and the longer versions of the melody, which appear previously in film music
Michurin (fig. 2), appear in all songs of the oratorio and give a sense of unity. Borrowing the
terminology mentioned by Pauline Fairclough, the short version will be called motive x. Therefore,
the full length version will be called melody x. Motive x starts on the first scale degree and ascends
until the fifth scale degree with a sixth scale degree as a diatonic upper neighbor pitch.According to
Fairclough, motive x connects songs number 1, 6, and 7, and this proves that the Song of the Forests
was composed very carefully. In addition to Fairclough's statement, motive x actually occurs in
other songs as well generating a coherence in the oratorio. Below is several examples of the
utilization of motive x in each song.
Melody x appears

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Digital Photography
In a world where everything is digital and photographs are normally taken with the digital cameras,
but there are number of photographers who are still shooting with film or there are some who are
newly interested in film formats.
Below are some pros and cons that I have discussed to evaluate the difference between Film and
Digital photography, respectively.
ADVANTAGES OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
1. You'll never have to pay for film or processing again
2. You don't have to wait to see the captured shot, you can view the shot immediately after taking
the photograph.
3. You can easily choose the images you want to print and the images can be easily be deleted that
you don't like.
4. You can record video with the digital cameras.
5. You can easily store the images.
6. You can continuously shoot with digital camera as you don't have to worry about the film.
7. You can delete the shot immediately after capturing the photo that ... Show more content on

With an ability to shoot thousands of photos without the expensive need for film, and you can press
the preview button anytime to make sure the desired shot was taken, and there is no need to spend
hours in processing film, scanning, or printing in a darkroom. And you can that If you are not patient
and want instant satisfaction, film photography is not for you. But if you love the anticipation of
developing a roll of film to see the results, watching a photograph develop on paper in front of your
eyes, and the satisfaction of knowing what you created without the simplistic and robotic motions of
a computer, then film photography is perfect for you. It is not like that you are a better photographer
if you shoot with digital camera or film, in the end the only thing matters is the ability of the person
behind the camera to capture the image. So we can say that the it only depends on the person
whether he wants to use digital camera or film

Cleo 5 To 7 Essay
Cleo from 5 to 7 and Breathless are French films that represent time as themes. By using time as an
important aspect of the film, the audience is drawn to the plot and eager to learn what the outcome is
after time runs out in the film. Time as a theme is possible through formal qualities of film that
would not be possible without these certain qualities. Cleo from 5 to 7 and Breathless may both have
time as significant themes, but each film uses time to create an original story.
Cleo from 5 to 7 is essentially about the story of a woman's past, present, and future. The setting is
in virtually real time created by the film while she confronts the probability of being sick with
cancer (Mast). In film, real time often means when the time of an ... Show more content on

something important is happening and one will have to keep time in mind in order to understand

audience is then engaged and involved in the traumatic stress and overwhelming sadness Cleo felt at
that very moment. The audience then curiously follows Cleo through her day as she waits for the
news from the doctor – the real time of the film. The viewer gets to know more about Cleo's life and
her personality, like her self–obsession as mirrors often appeared in the film and her celebrity status
in Paris as a French singer. The audience watches as Cleo kills time by keeping busy in order to find
out if she truly has cancer or not – one follows Cleo to the hat store, her apartment, her friend's
place, the park, etc. The implication behind following Cleo's day is to understand that by doing daily
everyday activities, Cleo is attempting to waste time and does not actually care for the day besides
receiving the results of her cancer situation. This changes, however, towards the end of the film

Hurricane Movie Analysis
The film Hurricane was about two African–American men being falsely accused of a crime that they
did not commit because of a spiteful cop who had history with Rubin Hurricane Carter as a child.
Hurricane can be viewed as an insightful film that exposed the racial atrocities, prejudice, and
discrimination acts that took place against colored people in America during the mid 1900's. From
an audience perspective the film rating is a 4 out of 5 stars. This film earned a 5 out of 5 because of
its effort and accuracy to tell a story that has impacted the African American community and reveal
the people in authority who have failed to protect and serve. The purpose of the film was to bring
awareness to the world of how African Americans were being treated in the United States. The
filmed proceeded to convey the catastrophic events that arise in the country by showing how the
colored people were fighting for Civil Rights and how police officers were racist and prejudice
toward black people. The film represents a time in the mid 1900's where African–Americans were
fighting for equal rights and opportunity. For equal rights in education, and public facilities the
colored people were trying to put an end to segregation. Brown V. Board of education was taking
place, Boycotts for the public buses and sit ins at whites only restaurants were going on.
The resources utilized by the film maker was a historic African American man that was a popular

How Sound Developed Changed America During The 1920s '...
In this essay I will explain how sound developed in American cinema in the 1920s, beginning with
"silent" films in the 1910s. I will explore the development of sound systems from large corporations
in America, and the failed experiments with sound beforehand. I will analyse the use of these sound
systems by Warner Brothers and Fox, the first film studios to adopt sound, and explore how this led
to the Big Five film studios also adopting the use of synchronised sound. I am going to examine the
reasons why synchronised sound developed from a teleological, contextual, and technology
determinist approach. To conclude I will evaluate the impact synchronised sound had on the film
industry in America during the 1920s.
As Raymond Fielding stated films have never truly been "silent films" even before the introduction
of synchronised sound, "there was never any such thing as a silent film – at least as far as the
audience was concerned" (Cameron, 1980, p. 3–4). Films were shown to audience 's in vaudevilles
and were often imitations of other vaudeville acts. These films were played alongside music, often
had a commentator to helps the audience understand their narratives, and used instruments and
actors to create sound effects. Since films were never silent to begin with from a teleological
approach you could argue that synchronised sound was inevitable in the development of film
because it just "standardised and mechanised the aural component" (Neale, 1985, p. 93) that was
already

Horror Versus Terror
Before beginning my argument and analysis, it is first necessary to discuss some of the basic
contrasting features of the concepts of horror versus terror, beginning with the concept as outlined
by Paul Wells. On this distinction, and first referring to terror, he writes "terror stimulates the desire
to actively come to terms with shock; to enjoy its provocation and understand its effect. [...] Horror,
however, has only a negative and paralysing effect; a wholly nihilistic and enduring condition of
death and oppression" (Wells 11). Our class lecture from March 8th clarified, largely encompassing
the definition provided by Wells, that terror is a reactionary, automatic response to an external threat
in which the fear is immediate and involves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We also went over how horror involves the realization that evil exists in the world, but is largely not
something that can be seen in the world, only in one's own mind, and that while terror and horror
coexist, horror can never come before an interrelated experience of terror, but terror can inspire later
horror, though not simultaneously as there must be some separation in time (Wynter 8 March; Wells
11–13). We learned that horror requires thought, memory, and imagination and that it must be
separated by time from whatever experience or event inspired it, even if that event was terror, in our
lecture on March 8th, and in a lecture on April 5th we connected the immediate fear of terror and the
more prolonged and building experience of horror to common themes and tropes used in many, if
not almost all horror films today, which involves the overall change in, and usually tightening, of
space in order to elicit horror, and the growing distance in time that builds the experience of horror

These progressive trends practiced by Expressionist artist help to create subjective perspectives in
the German's cinematic world, distorting it radically in order to stir emotional effects, and evoking
progressive moods and ideas for the spectators. Clearly, these socially progressive trends of activism

Film Analysis: The 5, 000 Fingers Of Dr. T

The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T.
The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. (1953) is a brilliant colorful narrative film that exploits the usage and
dynamics of design production to present a theme that is sorrowfully based upon events during
World War II, especially those events which dealt with Hitler and the Nazi Germans. Though at first
glance this is a children's movie that follows little Bart around as he is whisked away in the vibrant
adventures of his dreams as he seeks to end the malicious musical reign of Dr. T., this movie
contributes strong evidence alluding to an underlying theme; namely that World War II was a
horrible time period in which individuals were thwarted and subdued to ill–treatment (in this case
portrayed by piano playing) during the reign of Adolf Hitler. This theme is supported by the film's
production design, which combines German expressionist sets along with Seuss's vivid imagination
and imagery. The first scene we are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
T. is posed in Hitlerian ways, as articulated by the way the production design team has set him in
costume, specifically the eccentric conductor's costume that he dons towards the end of the movie.
They also support this idea by hanging an enormous portrait of him in his study, which resembles
Hitler's personage all too well. Dr. T's guards and minions all don the same costumes, and resemble
each other extremely well in likeness and appearance. All of these elements then combine in the
scene where Dr. T. has presumed that he has won and all of his henchmen come out in military style
and fashion, stand at attention, and sing and praise his name with a song while banners of his
institutional symbol, the hand, are hoisted and marched high. This scene recreates the memory of
oppression that was spread by Hitler; that he had his Nazis who were subject unto him in similar
fashion to what was shown in the movie, and who subdued the Jews and marched on in wretched

Who was Vsevold Pudovkin? Essay
Vsevold Pudovkin was a Russian Soviet director, actor and screenwriter. He was on of the great
innovators, he taught be the father of Soviet cinema Lev Kuleshov. He called to fight in World War
1 whilst studying engineering at Moscow. After escaping the Germans captivity he was 25 when
returned to Russia he started studying Chemistry and physics but after seeing D.W. Griffiths film "
Intolerance" he was inspired to follow film. He applied to the Sate Institute of Cinematography at
Moscow in 1919. However in 1919 film was still a very young art form and ideas and techniques
that are commonplace today were just being developed at that time. Pudovkin most influential role

His theory of montage can be called " Linkage montage". Pudovkin would usually cut between two
images to suggest a symbolic link or connection between them. These two shits combined together
encourage the audience to figure out that there is a psychological relationship. Pudokvin came up
with 5 editing techniques that could be used to show an emotion or idea without clearly saying it. He
describe ways editing can be used to increase the viewer's understanding of a story and they are
made to create a specific reaction from the viewers, he called this relational editing. For him the
purpose of editing was guiding the audience's emotional response. Pudovkin set down five editing
techniques in the 1920s and they are still used to this very day, he name these 5 techniques as the
following 1. Contrast– by cutting from one shot to a drastically different shot a film editor can force
the audience to compare those two scenes in their mind. Pudovkin used this by showing a miserable
starving man; the story will impress the audience if associated with a senseless gluttony of a man
who is well off. The impression of this contrast is vividly increased; one can relate the starving
sequence to the gluttony sequence whilst forcing the audience to compare two actions. Pudokvin
said "The editing of contrast is one of the most effective, but also one of the commonest and most
standardised, of methods, and so care should be taken not to overdo

To what extent can personality traits suggest an individual's preference of film genre?
Abstract This study investigates the relationship between personality and preference of film genre.
Three scales of personality trait were selected from the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP)
based on the revised version of the NEO Personality Inventory (NEO–PI–R: Costa & McCrae,
1992) and were assessed using a questionnaire. To assess preference of film genre, 9 film trailers
grouped into three main genre categories were watched and rated in terms of interest and likelihood
of watching. Results show a significant positive relationship between the personality trait Openness
to Experience and preference for Fantasy films. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was to eliminate the chance of response bias.
Results
To investigate any potential relationship between the personality measures tested for and film genre
preference, a Spearman's rho correlation analysis was carried out (as both the independent variables
were ordinal data). Table 1. (below) shows these correlations.
Table 1. Correlations Between Personality Trait and Film Genre Preference | Action | Romantic |

–.244.088 | **. Correlation is significant at the 0.01 level (2–tailed). | *. Correlation is significant at
the 0.05 level (2–tailed). |
As can be seen in the table, a medium strength positive correlation which is highly significant was
found between total scores in Agreeableness and Romance genre. The same medium positive
correlation was found between Openness to Experience and Fantasy genre. There was no correlation
found between the personality trait Extraversion and Preference for Action films, however, there
was a significant negative correlation (which was fairly weak) between Agreeableness and Action
genre.

Essay about Cleo 5 to 7 as a New Wave Film
Cleo 5 to 7 as a New Wave Film
Agnes Varda is not only one of the few female directors of new wave cinema; she is also credited as
having helped create the genre. Her short film La Point–Courte is considered by some as the first
new wave film. Her first full length movie, Cleo 5 to 7 falls within this genre as well. It is the story
of a young woman dying of cancer and how she sees the world in the context of time. We follow the
singer Cleo as she changes into the woman Flora and as she does so she begins to look at time in a
different manner. It is the way time is represented through the camera shots which really make this
film part of its new wave genre.
The movie begins with a five minute prologue that occurs during the credits in ... Show more

The fact that this is used in a film that is other wise more or less uncut, in terms of it following Cleo
for the last 90 minutes of waiting for her test results, keeps the film from having a documentary feel.
Another interesting use of camera cutting can be found in the in between scene where Cleo is
roaming the streets of Paris. She is now becoming the one watching other people rather than being
the one watched as she was in the beginning (probably because of her beauty and famous singer
status). While she is watching the camera cuts between other people's conversations and then while
she is walking the camera is in essence her point of view. However during this walk, the people
passing are watching her as well, thus proving that this is the transition time. The use of cutting
between shots of her and shots of all these people passing her not only show this change in who is
watching who, but also allows for a sense of time passing. Interspersed with these shots are images
of people we have already met, the widow, the boyfriend, the piano player, as well as the images of
a monkey resting on a clock and her wig resting on the mirror, these things conveying how the
people who know her see her and how she sees herself. This is a genius montage because these two
things represent the same thing, how people see her, how she sees people, and how she sees herself,
and by interspersing them we see

Stereotypes In The Lion King
In regard to the representation of POC in animation, there was, surprisingly, a proportionally greater
representation of POC in the 1930's and 1940's: an almost 2:1 ratio of animated characters of colour
to the population of POC in the United States. However, this was mostly a result of the large number
of racist caricatures and depictions of minority groups–positive representation of POC during this
time was virtually nonexistent (8 page 65, 7 page 177). As time has passed, there has been a sharp
and steady decline in overtly racist portrayals of POC in animation due to the self–censure of
animation companies (7 page 173), however, rather than replacing their racist portrayals of POC
with positive ones, studios simply removed POC from their films altogether, resulting in a decline in
the overall representation of POC in animated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This film provides a degrading representation of Latinos and Black people with the characters of
Puss in Boots and Donkey, respectively. Donkey is a one–dimensional comic relief character, who
stands out because of the way he speaks in a way that is particular to black people, called "Black
English" or "Ebonics," which is then used a source of humour in the film (5 page 12–13). Puss in
Boots plays into harmful stereotypes of Latinos as criminals or subservient followers, and his voice
and behaviour are intentionally highlighted as exotic (5 page 13–14). Additionally, a good portion of
the film's plot revolves around Shrek's "otherness" and the way he is ridiculed and shunned from
society until he conforms to their standards. The use of this storyline perpetuates ideas of
xenophobia and intolerance that are already present in modern day society, and elevates a certain
physical appearance as "better" than the rest (5 page 8–12, 15,

Biblical Themes In Wonder Woman
Biblical Themes Found in the Wonder Woman Film (2017) The Wonder Woman film, produced in
2017 and directed by Patty Jenkins; tells the story of a heroine who fights to save mankind from the
grips of an evil god, who threatens to destroy mankind and strip them of any freedom they currently
posess. Throughout the film, there are several underlying messages and themes that can also be
found in the King James Version of the bible. While the films storyline is based on a mythological
Greek story, there are many themes presented that are very similar to biblical themes, as well as
themes that are contrary and vastily different than those found in the biblical accounts. Although
there are many biblically influenced innuendos in the storyline of Wonder Woman, it is important to
note that the original ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Wonder Woman film, there is said to be a plurality of gods. Diana is just one of many, created
by Zeus. She is also capable of being destroyed, is not said to be eternal, and is not able to create
life. The God of the bible is presented as the only God, who created all things in existence (Isaiah
45:5, John 1:3). Unlike Diana, this God is said to be omniscient (all knowing) and omnipresent (a
state of being in all places at once). He is also said to be eternal, without an end (Isaiah 46:9–10,
Hebrews 4:13, 1 Timothy 1:17, Psalm 90:2). There was also a great temptation that was faced and
resisted before the triumphant victories. However, the victories were brought about in different
ways. Diana saved mankind by destroying the god, Ares. However, her saving didn't provide eternal
life for anyone. According to the bible, Jesus Christ saved mankind by giving his own life as a
ransom, paying the price for the sins of mankind and giving an opportunity for eternal life towards
those who believe (1 Timothy 2:5–6, Romans 6:23, John

Vard The Evolution Of The Film Genre
Films are divided by different genres – "a French word meaning 'type' or 'kind'" (Neale Stephen, 7),
including melodrama, comedy, and tragedy. Genre has occupied an important place in the study of
the cinema for over thirty years. One of the biggest genres that has been evolved over the years and
has many implications is melodrama. "As a theatrical genre, melodrama came into existence in the
late eighteenth century in France and Germany" (Neale Stephen, 184). In the following century
melodrama genre has spread and developed quick from France to Britain, America, and the rest of
Europe. The melodrama "initial definition was both formal and specific: melodrama was a dramatic

by measuring the absorbance at 405 nm. As a result, the percentage of cell attached on the LBL film
can be further assayed. The viability of human fibroblast cells seeded on COL/TA, COL/PSS and
COL/HEP film after 22 h is shown in Figure 4. Tissue culture polystyrene plate (TCPS) was used as
control. Phosphatase activity on COL/TA films is pretty similar than on TCPS. We can assume that
the number of cells is therefore similar, showing no obvious cytotoxicity of this surface. It is shown
that the COL/TA film has the highest activity of phosphatases (0.380 ± 0.016) compared with
COL/PSS and COL/HEP films. Also, it can be found that COL/HEP film (0.235 ± 0.011) has higher
phosphatases activity than COL/PSS film (0.140 ± 0.012). Related to these observations, we can
assume that COL/PSS and COL/HEP show, to some extent, cytotoxicity. Note, the different

The Effects Of Ultraviolet Radiation On Survival Of Yeast...
The effects of ultraviolet radiation on the survival of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

With Riley Allen, Josh Tesema, and Maryam Riaz
Dr. David Barnes
December 2, 2014
Abstract
The lab group conducted three separate experiments to test the effect of ultraviolet radiation on the
survival of yeast cells. These experiments are significant because ultraviolet radiation can damage
the DNA of human skin cells and eventually lead to skin cancer. The yeast cells were prepared and
then exposed to UV for various increments of time. The first experiment was a comparison of a wild
type strain versus an unknown type. The hypothesis was that if the unknown yeast has better adapted
to ultraviolet radiation, more unknown cells would survive. The wild–type strain survived
substantially more than the unknown. The second experiment introduced "protections." The group
covered the yeast samples with a thick black film or a sample of distilled water. More cells under the
black film outlasted the cells under the distilled water. The third experiment covered the samples
with a thinner, red film or a general sunscreen with SPF 70. More cells covered by the sunscreen
lived than those under the red film.

This essay will contain lucid analysis of the brief clip from the film Paper Moon (Peter
Bogdanovich, 1973), including specific techniques of mise–en–scene or cinematography used in the
clip. Analysis will explicitly describe the meaning of the film, and how it is related to the techniques
of mise–en–scene or cinematography.
This clip of the film Paper moon is the last 5 minutes of the film, where Addie Loggins (Tatum
O'Neal) decides to return to Moses "Moze" Pray (Ryan O'Neal) from the house of Aunt Billie
(Rosemary Rumbley). Throughout the entire film, Addie and Moses go through several of conflicts
together, while maintaining certain emotion of dislike against each other. However, this clip clearly
shows that both Addie and Moses had good feelings toward each other. Certain scenes in this film
clearly show how Addie and Moses want to be together. This clip connotes that Moses' insist effort
to push away Addie is because he cares about her and doesn't want her to be involved in his
dangerous, rough life. However, Addie still wants to be part of Moses' life, so she returns to Moses.
The expression of dislike between Addie and Moses is actually expression of their good feelings
toward each other.
Certain technique of mise–en–scene and cinematography can improve the film by creating
relationship to meaning of the film or responses of spectators. Deep space composition can be

The Film Industry Of Crisis By Frank O ' Hara
Introduction
A a result of my keen interest in my Media Studies Course I have chosen to look for a poem that
highlights the positive and negative viewpoints on different issues surrounding the film industry.
The poem I have found, "The Film Industry In Crisis" by Frank O'Hara in 1957, comments on the
choice audiences must make between "Glorious Silver Screen" or to the American LEgion or the
Catholic church. O'Hara also makes a brief reference to "give credit where it's due", which has lead
me to look further into the impacts of Illegal streaming of film. I also wonder about how the viewing
experience has been affected by external factors throughout history and what the impacts of
developing technology have been on the film industry as a whole.
How have changes to technology, including legal streaming sites, influenced the consumption of
films?
The way films are being made has significantly affected the way films are consumed with the
introduction of full colour viewing to the increase in resolution and frame rate of film as a result of
digitalisation of film in the early 2000's.
Access to entertainment has also changed with audiences shifting from traditional cinema to smaller
more readily accessible methods. Through the early 1900's cinema ticket sales in the US remained
steady, around 80–90 million sales annually (CyberCollege©). After the introduction of television in
1929, ticket sales began dropping and by the time the 1950's arrived ticket sales had dropped to

The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari Comparative Essay
Through watching many of Burton's films and that of the German Expressionist era, it is clear that
there are many visual similarities. One of Burton's earliest works is a animated short he made while
working at Disney. 'Vincent' was a five minute, black and white, stop motion animation based on a
poem that Burton had wrote previously. The film as some similarities to Expressionist film; the

Bottom 'Edward Scissorhands'.
Showing the contrast of the world the main character lives in.
Throughout this film, there are many links to 'The Cabinet of Dr Caligari', possibly most notably, the
difference between the dark Gothic castle which Edward is found in, and the almost sickly setting
where the residents of the neighbourhood live, based upon Burton's childhood in Burbank,
California. The contrast between these two worlds is very similar to the world which Francis recalls
in his flashback and that of the asylum in 'The Cabinet of Dr Caligari' (fig 8).
Another piece of Expressionism which features in Burton's work, often alongside his use of contrast,
is his use of shadows. Expressionist film included shadows as a way of showing what was
happening but without having the actual character on screen, this added to the mysterious horror
narrative but also allowed for scenes which may have been considered too graphic otherwise, for
example the scene in 'The Cabinet of Dr Caligari' where Alan is attacked in his bed (fig 9). This
technique can also be used for emphasising something about a character, as famously done in
'Nosferatu' with Count Orlok (fig 10). fig 9: Alan's death scene in 'The Cabinet of Dr

The Evolution of Digital Film
In order for digital film to exist like it does today it had to evolve from something. Digital film
evolved from Film or celluloid film as it is originally more recognized. I have a few questions that I
wish to cover early on and continue to develop as time goes on. What is digital Cinema and what are
the advantages and or disadvantages of it over film. What is film celluloid and where did it originate
from ? Why did digital film start ? finally what is next for digital film is there more to come or will
it transition to something else ?.
Firstly celluloid film is a thin sheet of celluloid, created from nitrocellulose and camphor. Celluloid
can be traced back to as far as 1856 to an English man called Alexander Parkes. Parkes has been

What Makes A Good Quality Compact Camera?
They say you must never use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice. Well, the same goes for
cameras. Even if you 're a top–notch pro making your living tailing celebrities or shooting the
Olympics, there will always be the need for a good quality compact camera that can fill in those
little gaps that exist in between. I mean, let 's face it, even if you always have to stay in touch, would
you lug around your desktop computer under your arm just so you could check email? No. Simply
because there are far simpler ways. In photographic terms, this is where the Canon PowerShot G10
comes in. Packed with over 90% of the features of a decent SLR, the G10 puts together the most
convincing case when it comes to shopping for a professional–level compact camera that can serve
as either a worthy complement to your professional equipment or as an all–in–one solution for the
serious hobbyist. As far as point–and–shoots go, the G10 is built like Obama 's presidential Cadillac.
It feels sturdy, has an improved grip that provides better camera balance, and now features a brand
new 3–inch LCD screen that has been bumped up from 230k to 460k, giving you razor–sharp
playback and visibly improved colors. There 's also the freedom of full manual controls, with
notable changes like the two–tiered rotary dials that adjust picture styles and ISO sensitivity. To the
left is a new exposure compensation control dial that rests where the ISO knob used to sit on the G9.
The flash now sits a

Louis Gottschalk Documentary
Many historian have a distrust of how documentaries handle historic accuracy. Many documentary
filmmakers will tweak the story here and there to make their film more dramatic and appealing to a
wider audience. The scepticism among historians is not a new age dilemma but has a long history. In
1935 Louis Gottschalk, a Chicago historian wrote to David Selznick who was the president of MGM
at the time, to complain that their historical films were low quality and that they needed historian
consultants in order to make their films more historical accurate. and continue to decry Hollywood's
determination to remould the past within the contours of the action movie in films like Gladiator
(Scott, 2002), Troy (Peterson, 2004), Kingdom of Heaven (Scott,

It is now time to combine those elements into a comprehensive analysis of one movie. You will be completing this assignment in two stages: for the first stage (1500 to 1800 words), you will analyze an entire movie; in the second stage (300 to 600 words), you will reflect on how you analyzed the movie as well as how your ability ... However, you will still need to discuss each of the four main components thoroughly, which means that you may need to explain a concept even if it can‟t be directly applied to your movie. Your paper should be organized around a thesis statement that clarifies what you will attempt to accomplish in your paper, and how you will proceed. I have so that's why I first took a photo class when I was a sophomore in high school. II. I am here to talk about the tradional side of film photography. III. I have about 4 years of experience shooting black and white photography. IV. This is important because without film photography you wouldn't be able to easily access your camera by one click away. V. Today I will be talking about the basic functions of traditional black and white camera. Then I will discus how to develop a roll of film and make a print in the darkroom. BODY Now lets begin with the functions of a film camera. There are many components that make up the camera but I will break it down by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is fairly easy; first you cut your photo paper into strips and place it under the Enlarger. The Enlarger is the key element in any darkroom. Place negative in the native carrier with the emulsion side down (shiny side down). A negative carrier is "device designed to hold the negative in proper position in an enlarger." (MiMi Photography, "Negative carrier"). Open the slot on the enlarger for the negative carrier. Slide it in and it should lock into place. Adjust enlarger head up or down to your desired position. Place easel under the lens of the enlarger and adjust the projected image on easel. The easels function is to hold your photo paper in place. Focus your image by using the focus knob until you see sharp edges. Once your image is focused, you want to set it for 5 seconds and turn off you light. Then place your test strip below your enlarger with the shiny side up. Grab a cardboard to cover a portion of the test strip and press the start button on your timer. When the light goes out, move the board an inch or two and press start button on the timer again. Repeat process until you have exposed the strip with light. • 8. Florence Cléo Cleo 5: The Role Of Objectification In Film Objectification, what comes to your mind when you think of that word? When I think of the word objectification I think of something as an object. If you were to clearly define this word it would be to treat someone or something as an object, giving it a sense of reality that might not be there. So, if we were to look at Florence 'Cléo' Victoire from the movie Cleo 5 to 7. I personally would say she's a woman that contributed in a big way to herself being objectified by men. Then you have these men that gaze at her, objectifying her at the same time with her even having the realization of what is leading to all of this. To begin, let's take the scene when her so–called lover makes a cameo in the film. she quickly switches from outside clothing to a semi–revealing robe. She didn't have to change because in the next scene Bob the Pianist was coming over to play her some new instrumental for a new song. So, you would assume she would want to be more professional dressed for this business transaction. In the case of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They show Cleo's face and she has a disgust looked on her face like what are why are these men look at me like this. Finally, taking everything that we discussed just these two scenes alone. It's hard for me to determine whether Cleo's the victim of men objectifying her as this perky blond upcoming pop star. If she the one using her feminist beauty to objectify herself to these Hollywood like standards to get her mind off the fact that she might not have that long to live if all comes to worst and she is diagnosed with ... • 10. Film Photography Process Analysis Essay Ever wonder how those wonderful, abstract photographs in the museums came to be? How the photographer organized and developed the image hanging in front you? Most people don't realize or understand the process of developing a photograph and turning it into a museum print beyond just taking the picture; like composing the image, developing the film, printing the image, and framing it. If you're interested, I'll show you just about everything I do as a photographer to get complete, framed print ready for the gallery. First and foremost, I have to buy my film of course. Choosing what film to shoot with involves deciding what film speed, or ISO, I want my film to be depending on if I'm shooting during the day, at night, portraits, color ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you overexpose the paper, it'll come out too dark or even just completely black. So once I've figured out what settings are right, I expose the paper to the light with the enlarger, and develop the paper through a similar process as the film development. But now it's 2 minutes in the developer for the paper, 1 minute in stop bath, 8 minutes divided into two separate fixer baths, and 30 minutes to completely wash all those chemicals off the print. After all that, the paper can sit to dry. Once dry, I mount it on mount board by gluing tissue paper to the back of the image onto the board and pressed all together in a heat compressor to stick everything together. Then, once it's framed, it's good to go into a gallery! And just finding a gallery to accept your image is a whole 'nother endeavor. Maybe now you get an idea of what happens beyond the camera and just taking the picture. So next time you're at a photographic museum, you can appreciate the hard work and determination that went to creating the images surrounding you and why they cost so ... In the movie Ben Hur (1959 & 2016) it is a tail of Christ, all about forgiveness. Judah Ben–Hur is a wealthy merchant living in Judea at the time of Christ. Judah and his family's get thrown into prison. Judah learns that he is to be condemned without trial or hearing, and flies into a rage. These two films were directed by Timur Bekmambetov(2016) and in the 1959 version was William Wyler. Comparing the two very superior movies they're many pluses and negative aspects of both films. I will be talking about the length of the film and also the showing of Jesus's face. As I talk about the length of the movie I will talk about the cinematographers decisions (Robert Surtees & Oliver Wood). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was many unneeded details that were just excessive. And in the new one they cut a lot of not important scenes and made the movie more interesting and it kept my attention on the screen. It completely cut Aries out of the movie but I feel that was okay because it didn't have a big importance. So overall I feel like the new film had a better story line and was short and sweet very action filled I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars. Also a difference between the two films was seeing Jesus face. In the 1995 film you never saw his face not even at the crucifixion. I don't like that in the new film showing his face and introducing him early along in the show really made the story so much better you felt more emotion about it. In the 1995 version he really wasn't around much but in the new one he really showed about forgiveness and I feel it really made the film ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Recording The Oratorio Song Of The Forests Prior to composing the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 in 1948, Shostakovich composed the film music Michurin that was about the life of horticulturist Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin (1855–1935). The film music encouraged Shostakovich to compose another work based on the same rural theme. Below is his statement during the aired interview in 1955 that confirms it: "My work in cinematography has proven beneficial for my activity as a composer. Indeed, a number of my compositions are a direct outcome of my work in the cinema. For instance, my work on the film Michurin has prompted me to compose my oratorio the Song of the Forests." The piano plays the melody as a background music in the scene. Part of the melody becomes an important recurrent motive that gives a sense of unity to the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 (fig. 2). The unavailability of the film music score forces the author to assume that the melody is written in the key of C major as seen in fig. 2 below. Both the short and the longer versions of the melody, which appear previously in film music Michurin (fig. 2), appear in all songs of the oratorio and give a sense of unity. Borrowing the terminology mentioned by Pauline Fairclough, the short version will be called motive x. Therefore, the full length version will be called melody x. Motive x starts on the first scale degree and ascends until the fifth scale degree with a sixth scale degree as a diatonic upper neighbor pitch.According to Fairclough, motive x connects songs number 1, 6, and 7, and this proves that the Song of the Forests was composed very carefully. In addition to Fairclough's statement, motive x actually occurs in other songs as well generating a coherence in the oratorio. Below is several examples of the utilization of motive x in each song. Melody x appears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hurricane Movie Analysis The film Hurricane was about two African–American men being falsely accused of a crime that they did not commit because of a spiteful cop who had history with Rubin Hurricane Carter as a child. Hurricane can be viewed as an insightful film that exposed the racial atrocities, prejudice, and discrimination acts that took place against colored people in America during the mid 1900's. From an audience perspective the film rating is a 4 out of 5 stars. This film earned a 5 out of 5 because of its effort and accuracy to tell a story that has impacted the African American community and reveal the people in authority who have failed to protect and serve. The purpose of the film was to bring awareness to the world of how African Americans were being treated in the United States. The filmed proceeded to convey the catastrophic events that arise in the country by showing how the colored people were fighting for Civil Rights and how police officers were racist and prejudice toward black people. • 32. How Sound Developed Changed America During The 1920s '... In this essay I will explain how sound developed in American cinema in the 1920s, beginning with "silent" films in the 1910s. I will explore the development of sound systems from large corporations in America, and the failed experiments with sound beforehand. I will analyse the use of these sound systems by Warner Brothers and Fox, the first film studios to adopt sound, and explore how this led to the Big Five film studios also adopting the use of synchronised sound. I am going to examine the reasons why synchronised sound developed from a teleological, contextual, and technology determinist approach. To conclude I will evaluate the impact synchronised sound had on the film industry in America during the 1920s. As Raymond Fielding stated films have never truly been "silent films" even before the introduction of synchronised sound, "there was never any such thing as a silent film – at least as far as the audience was concerned" (Cameron, 1980, p. 3–4). Films were shown to audience 's in vaudevilles and were often imitations of other vaudeville acts. These films were played alongside music, often had a commentator to helps the audience understand their narratives, and used instruments and actors to create sound effects. Since films were never silent to begin with from a teleological approach you could argue that synchronised sound was inevitable in the development of film because it just "standardised and mechanised the aural component" (Neale, 1985, p. 93) that was already ... Horror Versus Terror Before beginning my argument and analysis, it is first necessary to discuss some of the basic contrasting features of the concepts of horror versus terror, beginning with the concept as outlined by Paul Wells. On this distinction, and first referring to terror, he writes "terror stimulates the desire to actively come to terms with shock; to enjoy its provocation and understand its effect. [...] Horror, however, has only a negative and paralysing effect; a wholly nihilistic and enduring condition of death and oppression" (Wells 11). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We also went over how horror involves the realization that evil exists in the world, but is largely not something that can be seen in the world, only in one's own mind, and that while terror and horror coexist, horror can never come before an interrelated experience of terror, but terror can inspire later horror, though not simultaneously as there must be some separation in time (Wynter 8 March; Wells 11–13). We learned that horror requires thought, memory, and imagination and that it must be separated by time from whatever experience or event inspired it, even if that event was terror, in our lecture on March 8th, and in a lecture on April 5th we connected the immediate fear of terror and the more prolonged and building experience of horror to common themes and tropes used in many, if not almost all horror films today, which involves the overall change in, and usually tightening, of space in order to elicit horror, and the growing distance in time that builds the experience of horror (Wynter 8 March, 5 April; Wells ... (1953) is a brilliant colorful narrative film that exploits the usage and dynamics of design production to present a theme that is sorrowfully based upon events during World War II, especially those events which dealt with Hitler and the Nazi Germans. Though at first glance this is a children's movie that follows little Bart around as he is whisked away in the vibrant adventures of his dreams as he seeks to end the malicious musical reign of Dr. T., this movie contributes strong evidence alluding to an underlying theme; namely that World War II was a horrible time period in which individuals were thwarted and subdued to ill–treatment (in this case portrayed by piano playing) during the reign of Adolf Hitler. This theme is supported by the film's production design, which combines German expressionist sets along with Seuss's vivid imagination and imagery. The first scene we are ... Dr. T's guards and minions all don the same costumes, and resemble each other extremely well in likeness and appearance. He describe ways editing can be used to increase the viewer's understanding of a story and they are made to create a specific reaction from the viewers, he called this relational editing. Pudovkin set down five editing techniques in the 1920s and they are still used to this very day, he name these 5 techniques as the following 1. Contrast– by cutting from one shot to a drastically different shot a film editor can force the audience to compare those two scenes in their mind. Pudovkin used this by showing a miserable starving man; the story will impress the audience if associated with a senseless gluttony of a man who is well off. The impression of this contrast is vividly increased; one can relate the starving sequence to the gluttony sequence whilst forcing the audience to compare two actions. The fact that this is used in a film that is other wise more or less uncut, in terms of it following Cleo for the last 90 minutes of waiting for her test results, keeps the film from having a documentary feel. Another interesting use of camera cutting can be found in the in between scene where Cleo is roaming the streets of Paris. She is now becoming the one watching other people rather than being the one watched as she was in the beginning (probably because of her beauty and famous singer status). While she is watching the camera cuts between other people's conversations and then while she is walking the camera is in essence her point of view. However during this walk, the people passing are watching her as well, thus proving that this is the transition time. The use of cutting between shots of her and shots of all these people passing her not only show this change in who is watching who, but also allows for a sense of time passing. Interspersed with these shots are images of people we have already met, the widow, the boyfriend, the piano player, as well as the images of a monkey resting on a clock and her wig resting on the mirror, these things conveying how the people who know her see her and how she sees herself. Stereotypes In The Lion King In regard to the representation of POC in animation, there was, surprisingly, a proportionally greater representation of POC in the 1930's and 1940's: an almost 2:1 ratio of animated characters of colour to the population of POC in the United States. However, this was mostly a result of the large number of racist caricatures and depictions of minority groups–positive representation of POC during this time was virtually nonexistent (8 page 65, 7 page 177). As time has passed, there has been a sharp and steady decline in overtly racist portrayals of POC in animation due to the self–censure of animation companies (7 page 173), however, rather than replacing their racist portrayals of POC with positive ones, studios simply removed POC from their films altogether, resulting in a decline in the overall representation of POC in animated ... Donkey is a one–dimensional comic relief character, who stands out because of the way he speaks in a way that is particular to black people, called "Black English" or "Ebonics," which is then used a source of humour in the film (5 page 12–13). Puss in Boots plays into harmful stereotypes of Latinos as criminals or subservient followers, and his voice and behaviour are intentionally highlighted as exotic (5 page 13–14). Additionally, a good portion of the film's plot revolves around Shrek's "otherness" and the way he is ridiculed and shunned from society until he conforms to their standards. The use of this storyline perpetuates ideas of xenophobia and intolerance that are already present in modern day society, and elevates a certain physical appearance as "better" than the rest (5 page 8–12, 15, ... Biblical Themes In Wonder Woman Biblical Themes Found in the Wonder Woman Film (2017) The Wonder Woman film, produced in 2017 and directed by Patty Jenkins; tells the story of a heroine who fights to save mankind from the grips of an evil god, who threatens to destroy mankind and strip them of any freedom they currently posess. Throughout the film, there are several underlying messages and themes that can also be found in the King James Version of the bible. While the films storyline is based on a mythological Greek story, there are many themes presented that are very similar to biblical themes, as well as themes that are contrary and vastily different than those found in the biblical accounts. Although there are many biblically influenced innuendos in the storyline of Wonder Woman, it is important to note that the original ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Wonder Woman film, there is said to be a plurality of gods. Diana is just one of many, created by Zeus. She is also capable of being destroyed, is not said to be eternal, and is not able to create life. The God of the bible is presented as the only God, who created all things in existence (Isaiah 45:5, John 1:3). Unlike Diana, this God is said to be omniscient (all knowing) and omnipresent (a state of being in all places at once). He is also said to be eternal, without an end (Isaiah 46:9–10, Hebrews 4:13, 1 Timothy 1:17, Psalm 90:2). There was also a great temptation that was faced and resisted before the triumphant victories. However, the victories were brought about in different ways. Diana saved mankind by destroying the god, Ares. However, her saving didn't provide eternal life for anyone. According to the bible, Jesus Christ saved mankind by giving his own life as a ransom, paying the price for the sins of mankind and giving an opportunity for eternal life towards those who believe (1 Timothy 2:5–6, Romans 6:23, John ... Genre has occupied an important place in the study of the cinema for over thirty years. One of the biggest genres that has been evolved over the years and has many implications is melodrama. "As a theatrical genre, melodrama came into existence in the late eighteenth century in France and Germany" (Neale Stephen, 184). The quantity of p–nitrophenylate was evaluated by measuring the absorbance at 405 nm. As a result, the percentage of cell attached on the LBL film can be further assayed. The viability of human fibroblast cells seeded on COL/TA, COL/PSS and COL/HEP film after 22 h is shown in Figure 4. Tissue culture polystyrene plate (TCPS) was used as control. Phosphatase activity on COL/TA films is pretty similar than on TCPS. We can assume that the number of cells is therefore similar, showing no obvious cytotoxicity of this surface. It is shown that the COL/TA film has the highest activity of phosphatases (0.380 ± 0.016) compared with COL/PSS and COL/HEP films. Also, it can be found that COL/HEP film (0.235 ± 0.011) has higher phosphatases activity than COL/PSS film (0.140 ± 0.012). Related to these observations, we can assume that COL/PSS and COL/HEP show, to some extent, cytotoxicity. • 56. The Effects Of Ultraviolet Radiation On Survival Of Yeast... The effects of ultraviolet radiation on the survival of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Whitney Jones With Riley Allen, Josh Tesema, and Maryam Riaz Dr. David Barnes December 2, 2014 Abstract The lab group conducted three separate experiments to test the effect of ultraviolet radiation on the survival of yeast cells. These experiments are significant because ultraviolet radiation can damage the DNA of human skin cells and eventually lead to skin cancer. The yeast cells were prepared and then exposed to UV for various increments of time. The first experiment was a comparison of a wild type strain versus an unknown type. The hypothesis was that if the unknown yeast has better adapted to ultraviolet radiation, more unknown cells would survive. The wild–type strain survived substantially more than the unknown. The second experiment introduced "protections." The group covered the yeast samples with a thick black film or a sample of distilled water. More cells under the black film outlasted the cells under the distilled water. The third experiment covered the samples with a thinner, red film or a general sunscreen with SPF 70. More cells covered by the sunscreen lived than those under the red film. Introduction Ultraviolet light is present in sunlight. Generally the wavelengths are too short to be seen in the visible spectrum, it is present in sunlight, tanning beds, and black lights. (Lynch and Livingston, 2001) Earth's atmosphere blocks ... The Film Industry Of Crisis By Frank O ' Hara Introduction A a result of my keen interest in my Media Studies Course I have chosen to look for a poem that highlights the positive and negative viewpoints on different issues surrounding the film industry. The poem I have found, "The Film Industry In Crisis" by Frank O'Hara in 1957, comments on the choice audiences must make between "Glorious Silver Screen" or to the American LEgion or the Catholic church. O'Hara also makes a brief reference to "give credit where it's due", which has lead me to look further into the impacts of Illegal streaming of film. I also wonder about how the viewing experience has been affected by external factors throughout history and what the impacts of developing technology have been on the film industry as a whole. How have changes to technology, including legal streaming sites, influenced the consumption of films? The way films are being made has significantly affected the way films are consumed with the introduction of full colour viewing to the increase in resolution and frame rate of film as a result of digitalisation of film in the early 2000's. Access to entertainment has also changed with audiences shifting from traditional cinema to smaller more readily accessible methods. Through the early 1900's cinema ticket sales in the US remained steady, around 80–90 million sales annually (CyberCollege©). After the introduction of television in 1929, ticket sales began dropping and by the time the 1950's arrived ticket sales had dropped to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bottom 'Edward Scissorhands'. Showing the contrast of the world the main character lives in. Throughout this film, there are many links to 'The Cabinet of Dr Caligari', possibly most notably, the difference between the dark Gothic castle which Edward is found in, and the almost sickly setting where the residents of the neighbourhood live, based upon Burton's childhood in Burbank, California. The contrast between these two worlds is very similar to the world which Francis recalls in his flashback and that of the asylum in 'The Cabinet of Dr Caligari' (fig 8). Another piece of Expressionism which features in Burton's work, often alongside his use of contrast, is his use of shadows. Expressionist film included shadows as a way of showing what was happening but without having the actual character on screen, this added to the mysterious horror narrative but also allowed for scenes which may have been considered too graphic otherwise, for example the scene in 'The Cabinet of Dr Caligari' where Alan is attacked in his bed (fig 9). This technique can also be used for emphasising something about a character, as famously done in 'Nosferatu' with Count Orlok (fig 10). fig 9: Alan's death scene in 'The Cabinet of Dr ... Digital film evolved from Film or celluloid film as it is originally more recognized. I have a few questions that I wish to cover early on and continue to develop as time goes on. What is digital Cinema and what are the advantages and or disadvantages of it over film. What is film celluloid and where did it originate from ? Why did digital film start ? finally what is next for digital film is there more to come or will it transition to something else ?. Firstly celluloid film is a thin sheet of celluloid, created from nitrocellulose and camphor. Celluloid can be traced back to as far as 1856 to an English man called Alexander Parkes. Parkes has been found to be "the first person who was granted the first patent which described a plastic material which he called 'Parkesine' ". (1) However it wasn't actually Parkes that patented celluloid. John Wesley Hyatt an inventor and his brother Isaiah who actually patented their material as celluloid. So celluloid originated from New Jersey in the United States. Celluloid was actually created to become a replacement for the use of ivory in many products. However is made its way into film industry later on. This was primarily down to the work of John H. Stevens. "John H. Stevens was a chemist at the Celluloid Manufacturing Company" .
