Fantastic Mr Fox review
FantasticMr Fox is an animatedcomedyfilm, basedonthe bookof the same name by RoaldDahl.
The movie whichwasreleasedinlate isdirectedbyWesAndersonwhoisknownforheavilyfocusing
on storynarratives, thismakeshismoviesahitbecause of the depthanddetail characterswithinhis
moviesshowandconveytothe audience.The movie wasdistributedby20st
centuryfox whoare a
verybigand well knowndistributioncompany.The filmwasalsoproducedbymanydifferentfilm
companiessuchas;
 20th Century Fox animation
 Indian Paintbrush
 American Empirical Pictures
These are just a few of the different film companies which helped fund the movie and make it happen. The
Budget that went into the movie was around 40 million and hit 46.4 million which gave it a 6.4 million profit.
Although they did make a profit this was not a massive jump from where they started from, but the film did
receive multiple positive reviews praising the animation and voice acting of the characters.
There can be many interpretations on what the meaning of the movie could mean, personally I think the
movies meaning is to recognise who you are, the reason I think this is because in the scene with mr fox
and the wolf trying to communicate this represents Mr fox wild side where he used to steal chickens, and
also by the way the wolf does not understand any words Mr fox uses also supports the fact it represents his
wild side as it is not gesture action by Mr fox.
The production of the movie it took around 2 years for the actual production of the movie because the
stop motion which the movie used needed the characters puppets to have individual facial
expressions and movements to be made separately to give the illusion of movement when the movie
was put together. It also took around a day to film one scene as when a movement was done on a
character and the photo was taken they had to change the parts of the puppets and take another
picture, this took a day to do. The animal characters fur was made from a bristle to make it look like
fur. Overall there were over 500 puppets created for the movie.
Each voice actor was also required to film in different locations such as outside and in an echoed
area, this was to give the voice acting of the characters a much more natural and realistic feeling
because of the movie which is revolves around nature and animals that spend most time outside.
Multiple locations were used for this such as being underground and attic because it gave it more
spontaneity and more options when it came to editing.
Shot digitally using a Nikon D3, which offers a significantly higher resolution than even that of full High
Definition. It was also shot at a frame rate of 12 frames per second, rather than the more fluid 24, so
that viewers would notice the medium of stop-motion itself.
My opinion on the film was that it was enjoyable to watch, I found it too be good because I found that
it was different from most animated movies out today, the way the animation is done with stop motion
was well done, the way new chapters of the movie were introduced with titles was good because this
is a take on the way books introduce new scenes using chapters and this is a film adaption of a book.
The movie also had scenes which were humorous, this kept the movie entertaining. Overall it was a
good movie which I would recommend to people to watch if they have not already.
