Match on action is an editing technique that cuts from one shot of an action to another shot showing the continuation of that same action, creating continuity and directing the viewer's attention. The 180 degree rule means that within a scene between two characters, all shots must be filmed on only one side of an imaginary line between the characters to better establish location. Shot reverse shot alternates between shots of one character looking at another and then cutting to the other character looking back, allowing the audience to understand who is speaking and being spoken to.
