The 5th grade music curriculum map outlines performance objectives for students by the end of the year. Students will sing songs alone and with others from various genres and cultures, including short songs from notation. They will play simple instrumental parts as part of an ensemble playing contrasting parts and short songs from notation. Students will understand relationships between music, other arts, and other disciplines by identifying how music from different cultures relates to social studies and explaining the nature of sound. They will describe how music relates to history and culture and evaluate music performances by listening attentively and showing proper audience behavior.
