While this architecture works very well for the department, they would like to add a real-time channel to their reporting infrastructure.
This channel should serve up the following information: •The most up-to-date locations and status of equipment (fire trucks, ambulances, ladders etc.)
• The current locations and status of firefighters, EMT personnel and other relevant fire department employees
• The current list of active incidents within the city The above information should be visualized through an automatically updating dashboard. The central component of the dashboard will be map which automatically updates with the locations and incidents. This view should be as real-time as possible and will be used by the fire chiefs to assist with real-time decision-making on resource and equipment deployments.
In this presentation, we will leverage Databricks, Spark Structured Streaming, Delta Lake and the Azure platform to create this real-time delivery channel.

The key downside to this architecture is the development and operational overhead of managing two different systems.
There have been attempts to unify batch and streaming into a single system in the past. Organizations have not been that successful though in those attempts. But, with the advent of Delta Lake, we are seeing lot of engineers adopting a simple continuous data flow model to process data as it arrives. We call this architecture, The Delta Architecture.
Neo4j is a powerful and expressive tool for storing, querying and manipulating data. However modeling data as graphs is quite different from modeling data under a relational database. In this talk, Michael Hunger will cover modeling business domains using graphs and show how they can be persisted and queried in Neo4j. We'll contrast this approach with the relational model, and discuss the impact on complexity, flexibility and performance.
With the advent of deep learning and algorithms like word2vec and doc2vec, vectors-based representations are increasingly being used in search to represent anything from documents to images and products. However, search engines work with documents made of tokens, and not vectors, and are typically not designed for fast vector matching out of the box. In this talk, I will give an overview of how vectors can be derived from documents to produce a semantic representation of a document that can be used to implement semantic / conceptual search without hurting performance. I will then describe a few different techniques for efficiently searching vector-based representations in an inverted index, including LSH, vector quantization and k-means tree, and compare their performance in terms of speed and relevancy. Finally, I will describe how each technique can be implemented efficiently in a lucene-based search engine such as Solr or Elastic Search.
