This document is a feasibility study for introducing home automation and security products in Chitwan, Nepal. It was prepared by a team of students for an entrepreneurship training program. The study examines the potential market for home automation in Chitwan, outlines proposed products and services, and discusses technology considerations and a marketing strategy. The team aims to design affordable automation solutions that can reduce energy use and provide convenience and security for homes, businesses, and other facilities in Chitwan.

2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
“FEASIBILITY STUDY OF HOME AUTOMATION AND SECURITY
PRODUCTS IN CHITWAN “for a project which was selected in a training event intitled
Student Appropriate Technology Based Entrepreneurship Training (SATET) conducted by
Pokhara University in association with NITEC (Global Hang dung University).
The main objective of home automation is to be the most customized and reliable
automation services or system in Nepal. The system will be able to meet the user’s
requirement and life style. The system would be affordable to every economic group and
will possibly replace the traditional manual switches, security and energy management
system in near future.
We as a company are trying our best to research the market potential and find out the
feasibility of automation products. Our main motto is to make automation products in
Nepal and work for the security and convenience of Nepalese people. For this we would
like to introduce highly advanced and revolutionary system capable of controlling,
monitoring and communicating with the specialized hubs for comfort, security, and energy
management. These hubs work together to connect the home network. The whole system
would work, communicate and provide necessary suggestion to the user automatically for
efficient operation. The system can provide information and receiving commands from the
user through a communication channel which includes tablet, phone, or web app. We as a
company will compete with other existing companies in price, consistency, regular
maintenance and good customer relations. In the contrary we like to put forward a system
capable of fitting into any circumstances whether new or old with full functionality capable
of satisfying any age group and any work area which could be house, schools, apartments,
agriculture, business etc.

3. DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
We are initially trying to launch our product in the market through the official retailers and
wholesalers, though 55.6% respondent choose online stores for connecting with us. We are
planning to do so, just to initially startup and after collecting enough revenue we will surely
go for online stores. Until now we have designed some automation products which is within
the affordable limits of Nepalese monthly income. Products like automatic water pumps
which are available in the market with the price ranging from 1500-2500 Nepalese rupees
were designed and made within an affordable range of 500-1500 by our group. Products
like remote controlled lights and fans were designed and made within 5000-8000 whose
actual price in the market is 15000-20000. Similarly, different other products were
designed and made with in the affordable range. Market research showed that about 72.7
% people had income level less than 90,000 so we are trying to design automation products
to meet this criterion.
Even though people of Chitwan are aware of automation, Home automation is a completely
new market. The market for home automation is forecast to grow globally and steadily to
become US$ 116.26 Bn by 2026 from US$ 64.67 Bn in 2017, at a CAGR of 6.8%.
TECHNOLOGY CONSIDERATIONS
We are living in the 21st
century but still follow traditional methods for comfort, security,
and energy management. Presently we have system that can be easily installed, cost
efficient, and able to provide genuine home automation to consumers. We are wasting
the energy (more specifically electrical energy) in different fields such as Agriculture,
Hospitals, Education, Apartments etc. which can be due to unwanted operation of
different loads or equipment.
Our system will have a centrally located system for controlling, monitoring and
communicating with the specialized hubs for entertainment, security, and energy
management.

4. The comfort hub functions for providing automated application of lighting, TV, Sound
system, home theater etc.
The security hub would provide special care to your place it would avoid trans passers
to enter your premises. This hub will recognize you and your family and unlock the
doors, provide the view of your place when you are not around through a wireless
communication channel.
The energy management hub will provide efficient ideas to minimize the energy usage
of the house, business, apartments, factories and many more. Our system will be able to
display the status of energy consumption in rupees and provide necessary suggestion
through the modular feedback mechanisms.
All kinds of necessary communications between the user and the system will be done
through a wireless communication channel (via web app, mobile alert, tablets, phones
etc.). Our product includes wide variety of application such as residential, home theater,
hotels, hospitals, farms, industries, educational institutions, restaurants, boardrooms and
many more.
But it would surely take us some time to reach the actual goal, despite the fact that these
systems are already available in the international market. Additionally, new online
marketing functionality must be considered in order to target existing and potential
customers through methods such as e-mailing lists, promotional advertisements, and
loyalty discounts.
PRODUCT/SERVICE MARKETPLACE
Chitwan is very good spot for starting automation business because Bharatpur is major
commercial and service Centre of Chitwan as well as Nepal and major destination for
higher and quality education, health care and transportation in the region. At present
Bharatpur is the largest business area of Chitwan. Chitwan district is also known as the
medical city of Nepal. There are many top-rated medical institutions in the district are
located in Bharatpur. High rank schools, hotels, apartments, hospitals and industries are
also present in abundant amount. Hence market potential of home automation products in
Chitwan is very high.

5. The main competitor for us is a Kathmandu based company and few small automation
products sellers, which shows huge potential of automation market and paves the way for
our prosperity within 5-year time. By providing a more convenient means of purchasing
our products, good maintenance and efficient customer relation it is expected that we will
retain those customers to adopt automation product from us.
MARKETING STRATEGY
The future of automation is module based where every element of a place is controlled by the
modules. These modules are easy to replace and cost effective. Hence using modular based home
automation techniques would be more efficient and applicable. Very few of users understand the
home automation concept, but not installed one in their home, while many are not aware of home
automation its capabilities and power.
Our plan is to generate awareness for the need of home automation system. Systems and hubs and
other components will be sold online as well as from our stores. The home automation revenue is
expected to rise as people become aware of its capabilities. There are many competitors in the
current market but the kind of service that we provide and the functionalities that we have will be
the key to our success.
